A French Court Sword, And An Officer's Epee First Empire (1804-1814) The first with fullered blade (rust patinated overall) double-edged over a third of its length to the point, the forte on both sides with etched and gilt decoration including a sun-in-splendour, brass hilt (rear quillon removed) cast with cavalrymen in combat within a border of laurel on the shell-guard, foliate knuckle-guard, urn-shaped pommel with imperial eagle on each side, and wooden grip chequered on both sides; the second (blade seized in the scabbard) with brass hilt cast with neo-classical ornament including the winged figure of Nike on the scrolled shell-guard, rear quillon formed as a helmeted male head, and wooden grip chequered on both sides, in original leather scabbard (damaged, seam partly open) with locket and chape, the former en suite with the hilt (2) The first 76.5 cm. blade For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com For further information about this lot please visit the lot listing
