A BAMBOO DAYBED FRAME ATTRIBUTED TO FRANCA HELG (1920-1989), MANUFACTURED BY BONACINA ITALY, ORGINALLY DESIGNED CIRCA 1959 With raised ends 75cm high, 210cm long, 88cm deep Provenance: Wannenes, Genoa, where purchased by Count Manfredi della Gherardesca, 17 December 2015 Condition Report: The frame structurally sound. The footboard with a piece of bamboo now loose. The headboard with some repair to the Rattan and very minor damage. The twine strapping loose and damaged in a few places. The varnished finish discoloured as mentioned in the description but not illustrated there is an additional pine support frame which would help hold a mattress or cushion. A Victorian button upholstered day bed of grand proportions with raked back and outswept arms, the legs later cut. 120cm wide, 210cm long, the back 73cm highProvenance: formerly the property of Mrs Evelyn St George, the vendor's grandmother. Mrs St George had a long, lively and adventurous love affair with the artist William Orpen. The vendor's mother, Vivien, was their illegitimate daughter. The daybed can be seen in Orpen's painting 'Interior at Clonsilla with Mrs. St George'. Both this painting and the daybed remained with the family, the painting until its sale by auction at Sotheby's in 2002.

Great design depicting Hitler as the mythical figure Zahhak with the faces of Mussolini and Tojo as the evil king's snakes growing out of his shoulders, sleeping on a red daybed with his dream in a cloud above showing Churchill smoking a cigar on a horse with a Union Jack flag, Stalin smoking a pipe and Roosevelt on a horse with the American flag in front of a palace building, his guards wearing swastika armbands armed with guns and knives with a monkey character with devil horns and tail and horse hoof feet in foreground. Good condition, pinholes, staining, creasing, small tears on edges. Country of issue: UK, designer: Kimon Evan Marengo, size (cm): 34x23, year of printing: 1943.
