A George II mahogany stick barometer by Edward Scarlett, circa 1740 The arched top above engraved silvered brass register plates, with turned and wreathed cistern cover and brass, signed E.Scarlett Fecit, 91cm high. Edward Scarlett is recorded by Banfield as born circa 1688 and died in 1743. He worked from the sign of Archimedes and Globe, near St Anns Church, Soho, London from circa 1700 and, according to a trade card, was Optician to King George II. The work of Edward Scarlett is further described in N. Goodison, English Barometers, 1680-1860 Part II pp.237-239.
Impressive and rare 18th century Meissen group of two Freemasons, modelled by or after Kaendler, in the white, the two figures shown studying a globe resting on a plinth, with tools laid in front of them and a pug at their feet, faint crossed swords mark to base, 22.5cm highGood overall condition. Some signs of restoration, including to the tools, the standing figure's forefinger and a corner of his hat, the dog's front paws, and a corner of the column on the ground. Some very minor losses. A firing crack or hairline on the base with tiny associated loss on the back.
Good quality late 19th century French Louis XVI revival timepiece in lapis lazuli and silver plated case in the form of winged Atlas and cherub on dolphins back supporting a globe raised on paw feet with cylinder movement with screw back 23cm high and original fitted red leather box with gilt tooled Ducal coronet and 'L.P.O.' initials, with keySound running condition ( not tested for timekeeping), rather dirty overall but very good quality.
