Published by Edition Plus, Suzanne L. Fischer, Baden-Baden. Distributed by Trois Anges, Inc., New York. Numbered 99/100, pencil signed, and dated.Provenance: Private Minnesota Collection.Lot Essay:Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Wesselmann initially studied psychology at Hiram College before turning his focus to art and enrolling at the Art Academy of Cincinnati. He later moved to New York City, where he immersed himself in the vibrant art scene of the 1950s and 1960s.Wesselmann gained widespread recognition for his bold and colorful compositions that appropriated imagery from popular culture, often featuring everyday objects and figures from advertising, magazines, and consumer goods. His iconic series of "Great American Nude" paintings, begun in the early 1960s, redefined the portrayal of the female form in art, blending elements of eroticism with a graphic and stylized aesthetic. Throughout his career, Wesselmann experimented with various mediums, including painting, collage, and assemblage, pushing the boundaries of traditional artistic techniques.Beyond his depictions of the female body and consumer culture, Wesselmann's work also delved into themes of desire, consumption, and the commodification of imagery in contemporary society. His compositions were characterized by their flatness, vibrant colors, and clean lines, which emphasized the visual impact of his subjects. Wesselmann's influence on Pop Art and contemporary art as a whole is significant, as his provocative and visually striking works challenged conventions and sparked critical discourse about the intersection of art and popular culture.Height: 29 1/2 in x width: 23 1/2 in.

Fischer, Baden-Baden.Provenance: Private Minnesota Collection.Lot Essay:Robert Indiana stands as a seminal figure of the Pop Art movement, celebrated for his iconic renderings of words and symbols that captured the essence of Americana. Born Robert Clark in New Castle, Indiana, he adopted the name of his home state, reflecting his deep attachment to his roots. Indiana's most famous work, "LOVE," featuring bold letters with the "O" tilted at a jaunty angle, quickly became emblematic of the era, appearing on stamps, sculptures, and reproductions worldwide. His art transcended mere representation, delving into themes of patriotism, consumer culture, and the American Dream, resonating with audiences through its timeless imagery and vibrant colors.Throughout his career, Indiana's art evolved to encompass various mediums, including painting, sculpture, and printmaking. Beyond his artistic contributions, Indiana was a staunch advocate for social justice, using his art as a platform for political commentary and LGBTQ+ advocacy. Over time he developed personal relationships with many renowned artists including Ralph McQuarrie, Drew Struzan, Lawrence Noble, and Dave Dorman. In 1986, Plumb organized the "Space Fantasy & Reality Art Expo" at the Maturango Museum in Ridgecrest, California, to benefit the handicapped. The event was supported by contributions from Plumb's artist friends and even Lucasfilm - all of whom loaned materials to Plumb for the display. It was through these personal relationships that Plumb acquired many of the finest pieces in his collection. Throughout the years, Plumb organized or appeared at countless other events and shows, where he proudly displayed his collection and discussed his passion for Star Wars original art with both artists and fans. In 1996, Plumb hosted a panel at San Diego Comic Con on collecting Star Wars artwork specifically. In 2001, he and a small group of fellow collectors commissioned Lawrence Noble to produce the now-famous "Bronze Yoda."
