The photographs come from the archive of Vladimir and Eugenie Kadloubovsky and direct from a descendant of the Kadloubovskys.

Album of Manila and Kowloon, Album 8 x 9 inch, lacking front cover with photographs in Manila, 4 x 5 inch (33) and Kowloon 3 x 4 inch (19) with authors annotations alongside the images. c1901. This was a time of upheavel in the area. After the revolution in 1896, the US were taking over from Spanish control. Many religious parties, including Protestantism, Presbyterians, Methodists and Baptists were showing a prescence. Included in the album, which is unattributed, are images showing street scenes, club houses, local residents bamboo dwellings. People working on the river catching shrimps, the author describes the river as, "stinks like blazes". Images of sellers outside the cathedral and Spanish Priests described as, "Sky Pilots". An interesting written account of eating fried locusts. Later the images move to Kowloon the Walled City. Good street scenes with descriptions. Three images bear the initials "EEH Manila 07/01. Condition: Manila images (bromide prints) are very good. Kowloon (silver prints) some are faded but distinguishable.

Violet Gordon-Woodhouse and Agustin Rubio, c. 1930s. two bromide prints on photographer's tissue mounted card, inscribed in pencil to tissue mount, 'Herbert Lambert / Elliot & Fry Studios', the images 15.2 x 20cm and 14.3 x 19.8cm, both with manuscript captions in pencil beneath, 'Violet Gordon Woodhouse, the musician with her master', and 'Violet Gordon Woodhouse', both numbered in pencil on versos of card, H5849J and H5849A, 31 x 26.5cm overall. Herbert Richard Lambert was a British portrait photographer known for his portrayals of professional musicians and composers including Gustav Holst. Lambert became managing director of the Elliott & Fry portrait studio in 1936. In addition to photography, Lambert was also an amateur maker of musical instruments, specialising in harpsichords and clavichords. Violet Kate Eglinton Gordon- Woodhouse (1872 - 1948), was a British harpsichordist, clavichordist, and pianist. Violet first met Osbert Sitwell at one of the Sunday afternoon recitals she gave at her home in Ovingdon Square, London, during the First World War. She became a close family friend, and all three Sitwells stayed with her at Nether Lypiatt, her home in Gloucestershire, and visited her in Mount Street, Mayfair. Violet later studied with Agustin Rubio, Spanish cellist and music teacher to Pablo Casals. Sacheverell and Osbert Sitwell both wrote that they had only known two women of genius, one was their sister Edith, the other was Violet Gordon-Woodhouse. Sacheverell, being the most musical of the Sitwell siblings, spent time with Violet discovering the keyboard sonatas of Domenico Scarlatti; PAUL LAIB. (German, 1869 - 1958). Viva King. c. 1930s. a photographic print of an original portrait painting, on card mount, manuscript caption in pencil beneath, 'Mrs. William King nee Viva Booth', photographer's printed stamp to verso of mount, the image 22 x 17cm, 39 x 30cm overall.Paul Laib made photographic records of paintings, drawings and sculpture for his artist clients. Mrs. Viva King (1893-1978), was referred to by Osbert Sitwell as both 'the Queen of Bohemia' and 'the Scarlet Woman'. Her marriage to Willie King (British Museum curator and ceramics expert), was unconventional, (both were said to proposition young gay men). Desmond Edward Parsons, (1910-1937) was an aristocratic aesthete, regarded as 'one of the most magnetic men of his generation.' He had a passionate friendship with James Lees-Milne, the one true love of Harold Acton, and the unrequited love of Robert Byron. In 1934 they lived together in Peking, where Parsons developed Hodgkin's Disease. His brother, who was visiting him, managed to bring Desmond Parsons back to Europe where he died on 4 July 1937; MACADAMS (?possibly), MONTREAL. Admiral Sir Frank Larken KCB CMG (1875-1953) entered the Royal Navy in 1889. On the declaration of war in August 1914 he took command of light cruiser HMS Doris in the eastern Mediterranean, with instructions to launch amphibious raids on Turkish positions along the Syrian coast. His demolition of the railway at Alexandretta in December 1918 forced the Turks into negotiations by which they agreed to destroy their own railway engines and stores, under British supervision, a somewhat farcical event which was key to Churchill's appraisal of Turkish military capability and his decision to launch the Gallipoli campaign, during which the Doris provided support for the Anzac landings. Larken later commanded battleship HMS Valiant (1922-4), was promoted rear-admiral in 1924, vice-admiral in 1929, and admiral in 1933.

An archive of approximately 130 exhibition photographs, circa 1930s/1960s, mostly large-format bromide silver prints, subjects including landscapes, some portraits and genre subjects, sizes 59 x 51cm and smaller but mostly large format, many pencil signed on mounts to rectos or versos and with photographer's name and address plus many exhibition and prize labels, partly contained in old wooden boxFrederick W. Ferguson of Grotton Hall, Saddleworth, Yorkshire; also Oldham and Rochdale. An album containing approximately 490 gelatin silver bromide prints of India and Sussex, circa 1910-15, including approximately 270 photographs of India, plus 220 of Sussex scenes, photographs approximately 9.5 x 7.5 cm and similar small format sizes, mounted as multiples on 32 stiff card leaves, contemporary cloth, slightly rubbed and dampstained, oblong folio, together with a group of approximately 200 loose gelatin silver bromide prints by Tanner of Europe, Africa, Middle East, etc., mostly landscapes, natural history, etc., many on mounts, various sizes (Qty: approx. 200)
Edward Hillsworth, (1867-1941) Bromide print A Surrey Farmstead titled, annotated and signed with initials and dated 1931 in pencil, 16cm x 20cm, The Lock labelled verso, 13cm x 25cm, and a silver gelatine print Umbrellas to mend labelled verso 11cm x 15cm together with a collection of agricultural studies, (approx 45)Provenance; Edward Hillsworth lived most of his adult life in Basingstoke in Hampshire. He was one of the founder members of the Basingstoke camera club. Most of his photographs were taken in the mid 1920s up to 1938 with some earlier. He entered many competitions and was awarded a number of certificates of merit. Some of his photographs were published and featured in photographic exhibitions. In the Royal photographic Society records on line 1870-1915 there are records of two of his exhibits in 1908 and 1910. Many were developed and printed by himself from glass plates on various papers at home. The collection in this sale comprises over 500 prints divided in to 28 lots. The subjects cover a diverse range and many are mounted on card. Edward Hillsworth lived in a three bedroom terrace house in the centre of the town in Southern Road. They are being sent in for sale by his great nephew. The original glass plates are no longer in existence and the family story says that they were disposed of in the Basingstoke Canal after his death. This is the complete collection of his work as passed down through the family to the present vendor..
