With his camera Michael Poliza captures the unique natural and animal worlds of our planet; as a result he creates pictures like paintings
For many years, Michael Poliza has been following this motto: If you’re planning a trip, you will have something to show. In his works he documents the world in its inexhaustible variety of colors and shapes. In 2006, Poliza and his friend Stefan Breuer planned an eight-week trip by helicopter, covering a distance from Hamburg to Cape Town. The result is a collection of impressive landscape and wildlife views taken from bird’s perspective, as never seen before. The present work reveals a swarm of carmine bee-eaters that Poliza discovered in the tropics. The work is an impressive example of the photographer’s ability of capturing the moment, when favorable light and the perfect moment clash.

Michael Poliza (b. 1958)
In his youth Michael Poliza pursued a career in acting and received a number of roles in TV series and films. Born in Hamburg, he was able to finish the last years of school in Dallas, Texas. Until 1979, he then completed his studies in Computer Science in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Between 1980 and 1996, Poliza was especially active in the IT business. In 1997, he deliberately decided to sell his IT companies, in order to accompany the 1000 days ‘Starship Millenium Voyage’ initiated by the German magazine ‘Stern’. In 2006, he published his first book ‘AFRICA’, which was followed by his second publication ‘EYES OVER AFRICA’ in 2008. In the same year Michael Poliza was awarded with the International Photography Award (USA), the Deutsche Fotobuchpreis as well as with the ‘Preis der Internationalen Kalstarschau’ (now Gregor Calendar Award). Michael Poliza has continuously published further books and opened his own photo gallery in Hamburg in 2009. (cbo)
