ROBERT J. PHILLIPS [AMERICAN B. 1946], OIL ON CANVAS, 9" X 11": Girl leaning on table, seated with tulips. Signed lower right and on verso; 9 1/2" x 11 1/2"; framed. Provenance: ex. Coll. Frederick M. Bayer, Emeritus Curator of the Smithsonian Institutions Museum of Natural History. A marine biologist specializing in soft corals, Bayer knew well Emperor of Japan Hirohito [himself a marine biologist]. Bayer was at the Smithsonian from 1947-1961 and again from 1975-1996 and was a world wide traveler and amassed an extensive art collection.
