THESAURUS NOVUS THEOLOGICO-PHILOLOGICUS 'Sive sylloge dissertationum exedeticarum ad selectiora atque insigniora veteris et novi instrumenti loca; a theologis protesetantibus', the first of two volumes published by Apud Theodorum Haak, Leiden 1732, edited by Theodor Hase and Conrad Iken, one full-page engraved plate, folio, bound in embossed vellum, structure still sound, light soiling and use to binding, some sections of text age-toned, 39.5cm high Note: Critici sacri was a compilation of Latin biblical commentaries published in London from 1660, edited by John Pearson. The work appeared in nine volumes, and collected numerous authors, both Protestant and Catholic, of early modern critical work on the Bible setting off a series of subsequent related publications. The original work, while influential was not a connected Bible commentary, and was found to be long-winded, as well as scanty in other parts. Later publications attempted to address these shortcomings. An expanded edition was produced in Amsterdam from 1698 by a Dutch editorial group with two further supplementary volumes published in Amsterdam in 1701. These were followed up in 1732 by two further volumes of the Thesaurus novus theologico-philologicus, these were edited by Theodor Hase and Conrad Iken. This book is the first of these two volumes.
the so-called Agitkost' album is covered with two black papier-mache lacquered plaques on the front and on the back; the front cover is intricately decorated with carved walrus bone, the back cover is raised on four round feet. The bone carvings feature: the title on the top reading Belomoro-Baltiyskiy vodnyi put' [White Sea Baltic Waterway]; a rectangular plaque with a portrait of Joseph Stalin in an oval frame on the upper left; a plaque depicting a worker erecting grand flags and holding a pick, with water running through a floodgate behind him on the lower left; two plaques seamed in the center featuring a map of the waterway painted in blue and red; a plaque depicting a standard with Stalin's quote: [White Sea Baltic Waterway is the crucial stage in building the new Soviet Person - a powerful creator of his New life, of a new Socialist face of the Earth!] on the upper right; elaborately carved plaque depicting construction in progress, two seagulls soaring in the sky, and a frontier guard with his hound on the lower right. The album includes 158 vintage gelatin silver prints. The photographs illustrate the construction of the waterway, as well as the scenes from the life of the participating people. Some of the individuals were physically cut out from the photographs due to Stalin's repressive regime. Size: 45 x 33 cm (17 1/2 x 13 in.). This album is accompanied by two books: 1) A. S. Insarov, Baltiysko-Belomorskiy vodnyi put', (Moscow: OGIZ - GOSTRANSIZDAT, 1934) 2) M. Gorkiy, L. Averbakh, S. Firin, Belomorsko-Baltiyskiy kanal imeni Stalina, (Moscow: OGIZ - "ISTORIYA FABRIK I ZAVODOV", 1934) Several images from this album correspond to the ones in the accompanying book, Belomorsko-Baltiyskiy kanal imeni Stalina. Alexander Rodchenko was amongst the photographers who provided materials for this book (his name is listed on the last page). Some of the illustrations featured in the book are well-known photographs by Rodchenko from his 1931 trip to the waterway construction site. He had gone there three times, making thousands of shots during his trips. Significant amount of photo prints included in the present lot corresponds to Rodchenko’s signature style of geometrical photography shot with a diagonal point of view. The White Sea-Baltic Canal opened on 2 August 1933. It connects the White Sea with Lake Onega, which is further connected to the Baltic Sea. Until 1961, its original name was Belomorsko–Baltiyskiy Kanal imeni Stalina [the Stalin White Sea-Baltic Sea Canal]. The canal runs partially along several canalised rivers and Lake Vygozero. The total length of the route is 227 kilometres (141 mi), of which 48 kilometres (30 mi) are man-made. The Soviet Union presented the canal as an example of the success of the First Five-Year Plan. Its construction was completed four months ahead of schedule. The entire canal was constructed in twenty months, between 1931 and 1933, almost entirely by manual labour. The canal was the first major project constructed in the Soviet Union using forced labour. The workforce for the Canal of an estimated 100,000 convicts was supplied by the Belbaltlag camp directorate of the OGPU GULAG. Prison labour camp projects were not usually publicised, but the work on the Belomor canal was an exception, as the convicts were thought to not only construct the canal but reforge themselves in the process (Soviet concept of perekovka. The working conditions were brutal, with the prisoners given only primitive hand tools to carry out the massive construction project. The mortality was about 8.7%. Still more became sick and disabled.

He described a wide variety of religious ceremonies that conduct a person throughout life: in birth, marriage, sacrifice, sortilege, and funeral. 1957 Norton International 500 cc. Reg. no. TUC 420. Frame no. 71789. Engine no. 71789. This Norton International was registered in the last year of production; initially the name International was used for the newly designed race bikes in the 1930s and this racing heritage led to a long production run of powerful road bikes. In the 1950s the frames were upgraded but the engines remained essentially the same. In the final year, the machine had a facelift with the addition of chrome plated tank side panels, a new type Lucas headlamp and a tubular exhaust. The current owner’s father acquired this bike in 1957 and he was the first person to register the Norton in 1957. The motorcycle was ridden regularly until the late 1990s, although we understand that the bike had a tendency to cut-out when stationary. Subsequently the bike has been dry stored and it will now require fully re-commissioning prior to use. A selection of correspondence, an early buff log book, an instruction book, two parts lists and a V5c are included in the sale with the bike.It has been brought to our attention that this is not a matching number bike
1995 Mercedes E320 Cabriolet. Reg. no. N300 ARY. Chassis no. WDB124066ZC277993. Engine no. 10499222098675. The Mercedes E class were made in large quantities with various engine and body configurations. Due to their size and longevity they are frequently used as taxis in many countries, which is more of a compliment than many would realise. The vendor is just the third owner and he has owned the car since 2012. He tells us that the car runs and drives very well indeed. This high specification model is fitted with air conditioning, heated leather seats and cruise control. This would be an excellent car to own, either for daily use or for special occasions as it still looks very much the part. The service book contains 14 stamps and the car has covered approximately 145,000 miles from new. It comes with a current MOT certificate and a V5c document.. **It should be noted that although this car appeared in our previous catalogue, the car was not offered for auction, due to unavoidable circumstances.**
1979 BMW 633 CSI Auto. Reg. no. XOU 256T. Chassis no. WBA52420004391821. Engine no. WBA52420004391821. In July 1978 the 635CSi was introduced, featuring as standard a special close-ratio 5-speed gearbox and a single piece black rear spoiler. The bigger bore and shorter stroke facilitated max 218 hp at 5200rpm and a better torque curve. For the first year, the 635CSi was offered in three colours (Polaris, Henna Red, Graphite), and it could also be spotted by the front air dam that did not have attached fog lights. These simple cosmetic changes reportedly worked to reduce uplift on the car at high speeds by almost 15% over the non-spoiler body shape. This early model shared suspension components with the inaugural BMW 5-series, the E12. This example was owned locally for many years and it has a history file that includes a selection of old MOTs and bills. There is also a BMW service book, an older V5 and a V5c. Currently MOT’d this emerging classic is now a rare sight on the roads; great styling combined with powerful and comfortable motoring make this a very usable motor car.
