CONDITION REPORT: The table is structurally very sound. It has a plate glass top. The top is in generally good order with only minor old ring marks but no real problems. The crossbanded edge is in good condition all round as is the frieze. All legs are in good order with no significant blemishes. The flap is not warped. The interior is very clean with only minor old ring marks and insignificant blemishes.
An early 19th century Scottish inlaid mahogany cased longcase clock, with two train striking movement and circular dial, the case with long trunk door and fluted column corners. Height including brass finial 218 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The clock case is in generally good original unrestored condition. There are some minor veneer losses in places and some scuffs around the extremities of the base but no major issues with the case. We have the pendulum and weights. The pendulum bob is however detached from the pendulum itself. The movement winds on both trains and seems to operate when weight is applied to both the going and strike trains. The dial is in generally good order with only minor marks and scratches. We can see no evidence of any woodworm. The glass to the hood door is cracked.
A 19th century rosewood bookcase, with detachable moulded cornice above a pair of glazed doors with wooden astragals, the base fitted with a pair of panelled cupboard doors raised on a plinth. Height 119 cm, width 140 cm, depth 37 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The bookcase is in generally good order. The cornice is in good order all round. There is slight rippling to the veneers in places but no losses and no loose sections. The sides of the top and base are both in very good order and of good colour. The doors are not warped. There is one pane of arched glass missing to the left-hand door, all other glass panes are in good order. The lock is present and we have the key. There is some crossbanding missing to the right-hand side of the upper edge of the lower section which is visible on our image. The base doors are in generally good order. There are minor veneer losses to the centre edging strip of the right-hand door. The right -hand door is also slightly warped although does close and lock into the left one. The plinth base has some veneer losses but no significant issues. The backboards are original. We can see no evidence of any woodworm.
A George III style giltwood and gesso framed mirror, with moulded bellflower swags and bevelled glass plates. Height 81 cm, width 132 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The mirror frame is in very good order with no issues. The bevelled mirror plates are also in very good order with no problems. The overmantle could be used in its current state without the need for any work.
A George III mahogany secretaire bookcase, with detachable cornice glazed doors with moulded wooden astragals, the base fitted with a secretaire drawer above three further drawers with brass knob handles and circular backplates and all raised on splayed bracket feet. Height 217 cm, width 101 cm, depth 48 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The bookcase is in original unrestored condition. The pediment is a little dirty and there are minor veneer nibbles in places but no significant issues. The crossbanded frieze beneath has some half round moulding losses (6 in total). The doors are not significantly warped. The lock is present but we do not have the key. If the doors were locked they would meet correctly in the centre. There are no cracks to the glass. The sides of the top are in generally good order with only minor blemishes. The same applies to the sides of the base which have minor stress fractures and marks but no significant problems. All drawer fronts are in generally good order. There are some stress fractures to the panels on the secretaire drawer. There are some minor veneer nibbles. The handles are clearly old but later but do cover the original handle holes. The bracket feet are in generally good order all round with only minor nibbles and small losses to the extremities as one would expect. We can see no evidence of any woodworm.
A George III mahogany longcase clock by John Smith Chester, with brass dial and two train striking movement, the trunk with fluted quarter column corners. Height 195 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The clock is in fairly good unrestored condition. The hood is in generally good condition, the only exception being losses to the giltwood and gesso at the top and bottoms of the capitals and some evidence of old woodworm in these areas of soft wood. The glass appears to be original. The mask around the dial fits as it should. The brass dial has clearly lost the majority of its silvering. The trunk door is not warped but does have some surface marks and scratches. The quarter columns are in good condition but generally dirty. The sides of the case again are in generally good structural order with no significant splits. The same comments apply to the sides of the base. The base front board has small sections of crossbanding missing around the edges. The original oak rear boards have some evidence of old long gone woodworm. The movement is extremely dirty but when pressure is applied to the going train the movement appears to operate. The same comment applies to the strike train. We have a key but no weights or pendulum. Having removed the hood, the top board which would sit beneath the cornice is missing which probably explains the dust and dirt on the movement. We do not think that the clock is a marriage.
An Italian Murano Venetian glass clown of large form, bearing label. Height 31 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The glass clown is structurally sound. There are no major losses, the sticker on the front button is worn and does have part missing. There is some dirt to the glass which would wash off. On the right hand fingers there are very slight losses to the fingertips.
A pair of 19th century hobnail cut glass lidded decanters, each with pineapple shaped stopper. Height 31 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The first decanter, the stopper has been significantly damaged and repaired so is discoloured throughout the bottom half, there are also two 3 mm approximately in diameter chips to the base, these are to the side of the decanter and are visible just when it is placed on a table. There is also as you would expect scratching and wear to the base of the decanter with age. Overall, the structure is sound. The second decanter also has signs of wear to its base, no significant chips and is structurally sound.
A 19th century porcelain cased mantle clock, the rear of the movement stamped Vulliamy London and numbered 1598, the chapter ring also stamped and housed in a good quality porcelain floral encrusted case. Height 29 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The pendulum bob is numbered, this is not entirely clear, but it looks to be 1589 or 589. We have not had this movement running so we cannot confirm if it is in working order. The glass to the front of the case is missing. There is wear and dirt to the brass face. The overall porcelain body is structurally intact but there are very small losses to some of the flowers and other smaller parts of the porcelain, alongside that there is also some wear to the gilt and other areas of decoration. Also apparent are hairline cracks in the two back legs. On examining the movement, it is clear that the suspension has dropped which means the pendulum is hanging lower, there is some sort of repair with Sellotape and a paperclip. We can confirm the number on the pendulum and the back of the clock are the same, so they do belong to each other.
An 18 ct gold cased gentleman's pocket watch, knob wind open faced, movement as found. Gross weight 106 grams (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: This pocket watch is not in working order. The glass is present but detached from the case. The mechanism does not wind. There are scratches and dents to the case. The case diameter is +/- 5.4 cm.
Italian School, 20th century, Venetian view, indistinctly signed lower right, gouache and watercolour. 30 cm x 47 cm. CONDITION REPORT: This gouache has not been examined out of the frame. Looking from the front through the glass there are no tears or losses to the paper, the gouache surface has strong colour with no apparent water damage. There are some slight areas of browning to the sky, this may well be to do with the paper and the backboard through age.
Donald A Paton (Edward Horace Thompson 1879-1949), a watercolour "Evening Mists" after rain Isle of Skye. 24 cm x 34 cm, framed, signed (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The watercolour is in generally very good order with no significant issues. The small marks that appear on the right-hand side of the image are on the glass not the painting. The mount and frame are in generally good order and serviceable.
An Arts & Crafts wrought iron framed and stained glass fire screen. Height 87 cm, width 57 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The frame is structurally very sound with no movement at the joints. The frame is generally all over tarnished as one would expect and has lost much of the original gilt finish. The glass panel has numerous cracks to the glass and as you will see from our image there is a section of glass missing in the green cloud on the right-hand side. The brasswork between the glass panels is all in good order with no issues.
A late Victorian glass vase and cover, decorated with birds. Height 44 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The glass is structurally sound. There is a large chip to the cover which is 0.5 cm in width. Other very small chips to the rim along with dirt and other signs of use. Overall there are no other losses or damage to the glass items. There is plenty of wear to the decoration as to be expected with handpainted decoration over time. Also much wear to the gilt.
An early 20th century rare antique leaping lion automaton, probably by Roulette and Decamps, with nodding head and opening and closing jaws. On the fourth nod the hind legs fold down to a crouching position and then the body pounces. Moulded and shaped papier mache with short hair hide with bushy mane, glass eyes, painted teeth and tongue detail, with swept tail with start/stop mechanism to the underside and complete with winder.
