1934 Wolseley Hornet SpecialRegistration no. AYF 239Chassis no. 263114Odometer reading: 9,860MOT: Exempt*Extensive history file*Good condition*Running and driving wellTo view a video of this lot please click here Footnotes:Later known for its upmarket variations of cars from the British Motor Corporation, Wolseley was once famous for its sports cars that were competitive against the likes of MG. Introduced in 1930, the Wolseley Hornet helped to build this reputation and was available in saloon, coupe and open top configurations. The Hornet was also available in a 'Special' configuration, which was a coach-built variation that was bespoke to a customer's choosing. This example is a 1934 Hornet Special that is powered by a 1,604cc six-cylinder engine which was only available in the Special. The car is in very good condition throughout and comes with an extensive history file. This includes multiple old pictures of the car, old hill climb passes, and various invoices and receipts. More recently it is recorded that approximately £6,000 has been spent on maintenance since 2011 (which included fitting new king pins and timing the carburettor). The blue paintwork is in average order and blue leather seats present very well and are well suited to the car. This is a useable, pre-war classic that is in good running and working condition.Vendor Score Total: 73/100Bidders should note that the automated 100-point Seller's Assessment is provided by each Seller at the point of consignment using the guidelines below, and is not provided, assessed or verified by Bonhams MPH. 1958 MG A Roadster ProjectRegistration no. UMJ 329Chassis no. HOT 13/48278Odometer reading: N/AMOT: Exempt *MGA project vehicle*Previously restored shell*Features a later 1,800cc engine*Great potentialTo view a video of this lot please click hereFootnotes:Launched as the replacement for the MG TF at the 1955 Frankfurt Motor Show, the MGA was revolutionary step forward for MG. It was designed by renowned MG designer Syd Enever and featured a much more aerodynamic design whose shape still looks familiar today. Following its launch, the MGA proved to be a hit and over 100,000 were sold by 1962 in both 2-door roadster and 2-door coupe body styles. This 1958 roadster offers great potential as a project car and is finished in the iconic British Racing Green. The shell itself has been well restored and still presents well. It is also noted that the car's original 1500cc engine has been swapped out for a later MGB 1,800cc unit mated to an MGA gearbox. The steering rack has also been built. Offered with a new radiator, windscreen, bumpers and some other small items. This is a great project vehicle with a lot of potential.Vendor Score Total: 36/100Bidders should note that the automated 100-point Seller's Assessment is provided by each Seller at the point of consignment using the guidelines below, and is not provided, assessed or verified by Bonhams MPH. 1932 MG J2Registration no. YY 5032Chassis no. J2141Odometer reading: N/AMOT: Exempt*MG J2*Good condition*Engine rebuilt in 1997*Extensive historyFootnotes:Launched in August 1932, the MG J2 was engineered with the enthusiast in mind. It was powered by a 847cc single overhead cam four-cylinder engine which, paired with a four-speed gearbox, could reach an outstanding top speed of 82mph. It's look was also unmistakably MG with its long squared bonnet, folding windscreen and chrome wire wheels. Over 2,000 units were sold between 1932 and 1934, and at a cost of just £199 it was excellent value, and as a result the J2 proved successful. This 1932 example is presented in good condition and comes with a large history file that includes its original buff logbook, old bills and various paperwork. The file also includes invoices for an engine rebuild by CRG Engineering (MG specialists) in 1997 and other mechanical works. Having been in its current ownership since 2008, the vendor has kept the car in excellent condition and has maintained it himself. Recent work on the car includes a new mohair hood that was fitted over the original frame in 2008. The vendor believes that the car was rebuilt in the 1980s with a replacement chassis. This is a good example of a classic pre-war British sports car.Vendor Score Total: 78/100Bidders should note that the automated 100-point Seller's Assessment is provided by each Seller at the point of consignment using the guidelines below, and is not provided, assessed or verified by Bonhams MPH. These are fun cars that are now becoming quite rare, and this is a good honest example. Overall the car is solid, but there is no history available. The vendor informs us that the mileage is genuine and low at just 50,343 miles. It has been off the road and unused since 2018, so recommissioning is recommended. Owned since 2015.Vendor Score Total: 65/100Bidders should note that the automated 100-point Seller's Assessment is provided by each Seller at the point of consignment using the guidelines below, and is not provided, assessed or verified by Bonhams MPH. It was essentially an upgraded version of the TB, and shared the same 1,250cc engine but with a higher compression ratio of 7:4:1, allowing for greater horsepower. The TC was also four inches wider than its predecessor, but also slightly faster with its improved engine and 4-speed gearbox. 1960 MG A Mk. I 1600 Transmission: manualMileage:1132When the MGA arrived in 1955, it must have come as quite a shock to MG aficionados who had become used to the pre-war look of the company's sports cars. The MGA was a complete departure in styling for MG. Its beautiful streamlined body was right up to the minute in terms of appearance and it was powered by a new engine as MG had decided that the old XPAG unit had had its day. The MGA was powered by the much more modern B-series engine that had made its debut in the recently announced Magnette saloon.  MG enthusiasts had been given a hint of what was to come as early as 1951 when George Phillips drove a re-bodied TD Midget in the Le-Mans 24 hour endurance race. The car had been built for him by MG following his successes with his own TC, which had been fitted with a lightweight two-seat race car style body. So different was the appearance of his new TD racer, that it must have been difficult to believe that it was actually a venerable TD Midget underneath!  It was a road-going version of the Phillips car which had been proposed to BMC in 1952 as a replacement for the TD Midget, but had been turned down because of the corporation's decision to build the Austin-Healey 100. MG had gone as far as building a full prototype of the MGA by using TD running gear, the 1250 XPAG engine, a re-designed chassis, and the MGA bodywork. When it eventually became clear that the TF Midget was a bit of a lame duck and would have to be replaced, the new MG sports car was finally given the chance it deserved. The delay in production had one advantage in that it allowed MG to refine the design and install the much newer 1489cc four cylinder B-series engine and its transmission from the Magnette saloon. This superb example is presented in Ireland Green with a new tan leather interior which still smells new! The present owner carried out a restoration on the car over the last two years, replacing the interior completely to include wool carpets, new leather upholstery and dashboard covering, new steering wheel ( original wheel included in the sale). The has been resprayed and looks fantastic ( original colour was Tyrolite Green) The car also comes with a Heritage Certificate and some invoices. A great looking British classic which is still turning heads today as it did when manufactured!Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale. Accordingly, buyers are on notice that each vehicle is offered ‘as is/as seen’ subject to the Terms and Conditions for the auction. Buyers are advised to inspect the vehicle in person or use a professional to carry out this service. Historics will not entertain disputes over descriptions.

1958 MG A 1500 Coupé Transmission: manualMileage:70488When the MGA arrived in 1955, it must have come as quite a shock to MG aficionados who had become accustomed to the pre-war look of the company's sports cars. It was a complete departure in styling and its beautiful, streamlined body was right up to the minute in terms of appearance. It was powered by a new engine; MG had decided that the old XPAG unit had had its day and so introduced a much more modern B Series engine that had made its debut in the recently announced Magnette saloon. The 'A' was officially launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1955. Only 5,869 cars were sold on the home market, giving the MGA the highest export percentage of any British car and was replaced by the MGB in May 1962.This very nice example is presented in Vintage White with a traditional red interior, which is probably one of the most desirable colour combinations for this most classic of all British sports cars. Both the exterior paint and interior condition is good throughout. The car comes with a Heritage Certificate and documentation chronicling its restoration including photographs to support this together with invoices. The car was originally supplied new to South Africa and was subsequently imported to the UK at some point in its life. These popular sports cars are great to drive and handle extremely well, not surprising that the Police force used them at that time!Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale. Accordingly, buyers are on notice that each vehicle is offered ‘as is/as seen’ subject to the Terms and Conditions for the auction. 1960 MG A Twin Cam Roadster Transmission: manualMileage:42302 Believe to have raced extensively in period Fully restored between 1995 - 2015 Verified by the Australian Twin Cam register The high performance twin cam model of the famous MGA was added to the range in 1958. Available in both fixedhead and roadster versions, the new model could be visually identified by the fitment of knock-on Dunlop wheels and scuttle-mounted badges proclaiming 'Twin Cam'. The new engine boasted a cross flow cylinder head in aluminium alloy, larger SU carburettors and twin chain-driven overhead camshafts whist the displacement was increased to 1588cc, giving 108bhp at 6,700rpm and a top speed of 113mph allied to brisk acceleration. To cope with the increased performance, Dunlop disc brakes were fitted both front and rear. The model was universally popular with 2,111 made worldwide, most in left hand drive format. Presented in Iris blue with black trim and having been extensively restored between 1995 and 2015 at a cost believed to be circa $100,000 Australian dollars, this example was originally registered and sold in New South Wales, Australia in 1961. Acquired by its second owner and Queensland resident Ian Mac Nee and used for spares for the rebuild of another race car before John Pitman purchased Chassis no 2422 as a rolling chassis in 1987 and subsequently purchased an engine from chassis number 1802 from the United States. We believe the car was raced and suffered some damage prior to race driver Rob Barr purchasing in 1989 and thus extensively restored by him before he sold the car in 2015. The car is sold under the identity of chassis 2422 as detailed on the Australian Twin Cam register and found within the history file which is well documented. Its history records that the car was used extensively for racing in Australia and subsequently our vendor purchased it from Gosford Museum in 2018. The car presents well and represents good value, considering MGA Twin Cam’s have been known to fetch in excess of £50,000. Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale. Accordingly, buyers are on notice that each vehicle is offered ‘as is/as seen’ subject to the Terms and Conditions for the auction. Buyers are advised to inspect the vehicle in person or use a professional to carry out this service. Historics will not entertain disputes over descriptions.

1968 MG C GT Automatic Transmission: manualMileage:74292The MGC was the first 'high performance' version of the MGB as from early in the design stages of the MGB there was an intention to create high performance variants, using a range of Vee engines that did not make it to production. The MGC was very much more than a tuned MGB and in fact was a completely re-engineered car, although still retaining many visual connections to the MGB. On the outside the MGC was often mistaken for an MGB as the only visual differences were in the heavily bulged bonnet with a transverse chrome strip that accentuated the bulges, and the standard use of 15 inch wheels instead of 14 inch on the MGB. Inside there were few differences between the B and C other than the 140mph speedo and tacho with a yellow and red banding set against lower rpms than the MGB. Under the skin however the differences became obvious with most changes up front. The engine was a BMC C series 6-cylinder 2912cc development of that used in the Austin Healey 3000 and Austin Westminster. This required a new torsion bar front suspension along with uprated braking. The gearbox was also a new stronger all synchromesh unit with optional overdrive.Only produced between 1967 and 1969, the MGC GT is a rare car with only 2,034 righthand drive models being built. This lovely example of this rare British GT is presented in red with black interior. Its six cylinder 2.9 engine is a replacement from the original, installed in 2013. There is a letter in the history file stating that one of its owners had bought the engine from a Mr Bowman who had himself bought the engine brand new from MG just as this model ceased production and kept it in a crate. It was subsequently taken off the crate and put into this car in 2013. The bodywork and interior are in good condition and the wonderful smooth straight six engine is a joy.Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale. Accordingly, buyers are on notice that each vehicle is offered ‘as is/as seen’ subject to the Terms and Conditions for the auction. Buyers are advised to inspect the vehicle in person or use a professional to carry out this service. Historics will not entertain disputes over descriptions.

1952 MG TD Transmission: manualMileage:90762The 1950 MG TD combined the TC's drivetrain, a modified hypoid-geared rear axle, the MG Y-Type chassis, a familiar T-Type style body and independent suspension using coil springs from the MG Y-Type saloon. Also new were rack and pinion steering, smaller 15 disc type road wheels, a lefthand drive option and standard equipment bumpers with over-riders. The car was also five inches wider with a track of 50. In 1950, the TD Mk. II was introduced alongside the standard car, featuring a more highly tuned engine with 8.0:1 compression ratio giving 57bhp at 5500rpm. It also featured twin fuel pumps, revised dampers and a higher rear axle ratio. Nearly 30,000 MG TD'sweremanufactured, including some 1,700 Mk. II models. When the series ended in 1953, all but 1,656 were exported with 23,488 of them to the United States. An example tested by 'The Motor' magazine in 1952 had a top speed of 77mph and could accelerate from 0-60 mph in 18.2 seconds.Exported to the U.S. when new, this MG TD was repatriated to the UK in 1990 and immediately underwent a total restoration; photographs for this can be found within the history file. The car still presents in very good condition today, the engine was rebuilt in 2004 and runs extremely well. The green coachwork is in good order as is the green leather interior thus presenting a delightful example. Supplied with a comprehensive history file dating back to 1990 and a V5C registration document, bills and a number ofMoT test certificates; it sits proudly on wire wheels and in righthand drive format, this MG TD is offered with an attractive estimate.Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale. 1954 MG TF Transmission: manualMileage:2870Originally launched at the 1953 Motor Show, the MG TF was greeted with mixed reactions from enthusiasts and journalists alike. To the Abingdon engineers, led by Cecil Cousins, it was a model that was sufficiently different from its predecessors and yet continued the traditional T-Series classic lines and the end result was very pleasing to the eye. Interior wise and in keeping with the external modifications, the cockpit layout was quite radically different to that of its predecessor and formed a comfortable and pleasant place to be. Individually adjustable seats were provided in place of the normal bench type seating and the facia panel was completely new with a welcome return to octagonal instrumentation. Often referred to as 'the last of the square riggers' the MG TF gained this title due to its very strong resemblance to the pre-war MG Midgets. This lovely example of this British classic is presented in green with tan leather interior, light tan hood and comes with a rear mounted spare wheel and luggage rack. The first owner of this MG was a pilot with the Fleet Air Arm and the second owner was the Olympic British cyclist Brian Sandy who competed in the 1964 Olympics in Japan and it was the third owner (name not known)  who restored the car. These MG motor cars of this era are often used in Rallies both here and in Europe as they are simple to maintain and spritely on country roads.Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale. Accordingly, buyers are on notice that each vehicle is offered ‘as is/as seen’ subject to the Terms and Conditions for the auction. I cannot remember the year of the doner vehicle that these parts came from. The bump on the bonnet can be eliminated by fitting an Offenhauser manifold and mounting the carbs on the back of the engine ,trouble is it takes the power down from 232 BHP to 128 BHP, I could put up with the bump no problem its like driving an E Type. I have an exhaust system here at home that I made 25 years ago from scaffold tubing that will last a lot longer than anything on offer today for the MG. Its a real pain to fit but it will fit the car.

1978 MG BGT, 1798cc. Registration number BFK 303T. Chassis number GHD5 465873 G. Engine number 18V 847 H 24081.The MGB-GT was originally introduced in 1965. By 1967, incremental changes lead to the designation of Mark II (officially the 1968 model year). This model continued in production until August 1971, and was then superseded by the Mk III in October 1971, from chassis number 258004. Like the Mk I and II, the Mk III is a two-door 2+2 powered by a front-mounted, rear-wheel-drive 1798cc B Series engine. The Mark III had a revised interior, with centre console housing rocker switches and two vents in the middle. An armrest was fitted between the front seats, which now had nylon inserts. In October 1974, from chassis number 361001, the model underwent its most dramatic visual change when large black 'rubber' bumpers on front and rear were added to meet US impact regulations. The nose was redesigned and front indicators incorporated into the bumper. The ride height of the car was increased slightly and overdrive included as standard.BFK was owned by Charles Bolland of Wolverhampton in the 1980's and then in 2019 Michael Rollason of Doncaster bought selling it to our vendor in November 2020. At some point it has undergone a full, engine out , respray from the original Inca Yellow to the the current blue, the seats have been replaced with cream leather, the dash board replaced with a wooden version and proper splined chrome splined wire wheels added. The MOT history shows 61,571 in 2012, it was then off the road until 2018 at 61,735, presumably the period of its restoration. Today it shows 61,891 miles.Sold with the V5C and various paperwork, this MB is now ready to be enjoyed over the summer months.

1979 Triumph Spitfire 1500, 1493cc. Registration number GED 830V. Chassis number FH 133903. Engine number FP 48619E. The Spitfire was conceived by Standard-Triumph to compete in the small sports car market against the Austin-Healey Sprite. The Sprite had used the drive train of the Austin A30/A35 in a lightweight. The Spitfire used mechanicals from the Herald. Where the Austin A30 used monocoque construction, the Herald used body-on-frame ? a chassis Triumph was able to downsize, saving the cost of developing a completely new chassis-body unit. Giovanni Michelotti, who had designed the Herald, styled the bodywork, which featured wind-up windows (in contrast to the Sprite and Midget, which used side curtains) and an assembly of the bonnet and wings that opened forward for engine access. The Spitfire's introduction was delayed by its company's financial troubles in the early 1960's and was subsequently announced shortly after Standard Triumph was taken over by Leyland Motors. When Leyland officials, taking stock of their new acquisition, found Michelotti's prototype under a dust sheet in a factory corner, it was quickly approved it for production. The Mark IV featured a redesigned rear design similar to the Triumph Stag and Triumph 2000 models, both also designed by Michelotti. The front end was revised with a new bonnet pressing eliminating the weld lines on top of the wings/fenders, door handles were recessed, the convertible top received squared-off corners. The interior was revised to include a full-width dashboard, with instruments ahead of the driver rather than over the centre console, initially finished in black plastic and beginning in 1973 finished in wood. The 1500 followed in 1974. GED was first registered in December 1979 and by 1991 was with Mr Prescott of Hornsea, followed by Mr Lane in 1992, the mileage at this time was 78,989. Our vendor bought it as project in December 1996 and started a body off restoration, a spare body tub was sourced from California, the chassis was blasted and painted, a new bonnet, boot and door skins came from Rimmers as was the exhaust system. All components were giving a refresh and the car was repainted in the original Inca Yellow and a new hood fitted. Completed in 1998 the speedo was reset and an MOT obtained, used very occasionally ever since, the mileage is now only 1,494 miles. A testament to the custodian the car has not deteriorated since and started with ease for the journey to the saleroom. Sold with the V5C, MOT's 1998-2003 and 2019, a variety of receipts from the restoration, some from its past and various Spitfire manuals. It should be noted that the engine block is from a MG Midget 1500.

1939 MG VA Drophead CoupéCoachwork by Salmons (Tickford)Registration no. FUV 918Chassis no. 2323*Rare pre-war MG model*Present ownership since 1983*Braking system professionally overhauled in June 2020*Bills availableLaunched at the 1936 Motor Show, the VA was the second all-new MG model to be introduced following the company's acquisition by Morris Motors and its subsequent reorganisation. It was a scaled-down version of the SA, first seen the previous year, which had caused a certain amount of consternation amongst enthusiasts who feared an abandonment of virtues embodied by the marque's nimble sports cars. They need not have worried, for although based on the Wolseley Super Six and aimed at the luxury car market, the SA received sufficient input from MG founder and designer Cecil Kimber to transform it into a car worthy of the famous octagon badge. Likewise the VA, or 1½-Litre, which shared its 1,548cc four-cylinder overhead valve engine with the Morris 12/4 and Wolseley 12/48. As installed in the VA, this unit featured twin SU carburettors and produced 54bhp, but as the car weighed over a ton, acceleration was necessarily leisurely. Nevertheless, the VA could cruise comfortably at 60mph and had a genuine top speed of over 75mph with more to come from the tourer with the windscreen folded flat. Synchromesh made its appearance on 3rd and top gears - the first time that this innovation had been seen in an MG saloon. A Tickford-bodied drophead coupé and Charlesworth-bodied open tourer completed the range. By the time production ceased in 1939, 2,407 VAs of all types had left the factory. This particular VA drophead coupé, chassis number '2323', comes with an old-style continuation logbook of 1952 listing Mrs Rosamund Elizabeth Campbell of Northamptonshire as owner at that time followed by the current vendor, who acquired the MG in 1983. There are various invoices on file issued by marque specialists SVW Services and Classic MG Services for work carried out and parts supplied over the years, the most recent relating to an overhaul of the braking system in June 2020. We are advised by the vendor that the only modification from factory specification is the fitting of new and improved shock absorbers (originals available), and that the central front spotlight will be refitted prior to sale. Finished in black with brown leather interior and beige hood, this rare pre-war MG is described by the private vendor as in generally good condition and comes with a V5C Registration Certificate. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com
