Vivienne Westwood & Malcolm McLaren A 'Two Cowboys' T-shirt, 1975 Pure cotton, no label, image of Two Cowboys in blue and red, reading DANCE at collar, stencilled ello Joe, been anywhere lately.. nah its all played aht, Bill Gettin too straight to waist, with letter of provenance S Footnotes: Provenance The vendor was an art student when she purchased this T-shirt directly from SEX in 1975, having been familiar with the shop on King's Road, Chelsea, for many years. She first shopped there when it was Let It Rock (Malcolm McLaren's store) at 15 or 16, and continued visiting when it was renamed Too Fast to Live, Too Young to Die, before it ultimately became SEX. In 1975, she attended the Sex Pistols' first-ever gig, held at St. Martin's School of Art, where they supported the rock and roll band Bazooka Joe. After seeing them perform, she bought the T-shirt along with a pair of black leather Vivienne Westwood jeans from SEX. The vendor personally knew the Sex Pistols, as two of her friends were dating Steve Jones and Paul Cook. She also hosted John Lydon and Sid Vicious at her flat in Notting Hill. 'Two Cowboys' Featuring one of the most notorious and popular of the provocative designs produced by McLaren & Westwood during the punk era. Not only was it worn by members of the Sex Pistols, their coterie and fans during the group and the movement's emergence but it made the front page of The Guardian in 1975 when a customer was arrested for obscene display for flaunting one of the first sold from the shop in public in Piccadilly. Buyers' Premium and Charges
For all Sales categories, buyer's premium excluding Cars, Motorbikes, Wine, Whisky and Coin & Medal sales, will be as follows:
Buyer's Premium Rates
28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.
A 3rd party bidding platform fee of 4% of the Hammer Price for Buyers using the following bidding platforms will be added to the invoices of successful Buyers for auctions starting on or after 6th July 2024 – Invaluable; Live Auctioneers; The Saleroom; Lot-tissimo.
VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
