* Gillray (James). A Democrat, - or - Reason & Philosophy, pub. H.Humphrey March 1st, 1793, etching with bright original hand colouring, trimmed inside plate mark and glued onto old album page, 345 x 240mm (13.5 x 9.5 inches. Charles Fox is shown as a revolutionary `sans culottes` with blood stained hands, the legs of a goat and the implication of a serious attck of flatulence. This was one of the most un-subtle caricatures of Fox ever published. The ironic `Ca ira` was the chorus of a democratic song of the day. This image was one of the few caricatures of the statesmen to which he truly took offence. (1)
