WWII a poster issued in Germany stating that Helmuth Hubener from Hamburg had been executed because of his high treason. Printed in black on red paper 4to size with indications that it had been displayed for public consumption (as was intended). Dated October 27th 1942. He was just 17 years old and the youngest person to be executed by the Nazis for opposition to the Third Reich. A chilling reminder of the extent of Nazi terror as well as a reminder that not all Germans were Nazis and indeed many were prepared to die for their opposition to Hitler and his gang. Helmuth Hubener’s ‘High Treason’ was to listen to the BBC and distributed leaflets conflicting with the disinformation which was emanation from Goebbels and his spin doctors. For that he was arrested by the Gestapo after being denounced by a colleague. He was found guilty (of course) and sentenced not only to death but also to permanent loss of his civil rights – which meant that he was dreadfully treated in prison. He was eventually beheaded by guillotine.
