Foreign and Colonial Government Trust, a group of certificates 'coupon of reversion', original series, 1868, # 881 and #4381, and third series, 1871, #C1074, the first and second signed by Lord Eustace Cecil, the second also by Richard Bethell, 1st Baron Westbury, the third only facsimile signatures of Westbury, Cecil, Sir Philip Rose and others, ornate borders black on green or yellow paper. The first investment trust scheme in the world, specialising in Government bonds. Following a court action on the Trusts legal status it was reorganised and registered as the Foreign and Colonial Investment Trust n 1891 and is still going strong. F-VF and rare (3) Lord Eustace Cecil, 1834-1921, youngest son of the 2nd Marquess of Salisbury, followed a military career, retiring as Lieutenant Colonel of the Coldstream Guards in 1863.Richard Bethell, 1st Baron Westbury, 1800 - 1873, lawyer and politician, Lord Chancellor 1861 - 1865.Subject to 20% VAT on Buyer’s Premium.
