Treasures from 'the quintessential Cotswolds manor house'
15 February 2023 The contents of Doughton Manor, Tetbury will be offered as part of The Oak Interior sale at Bishop & Miller in Stowmarket on February 23. More than 100 lots of oak and vernacular furniture and early metalwork and textiles are for sale with estimates ranging from under £50 to £15,000-20,000 for an Elizabethan tester bed.

An early 18th century English wrought iron chimney crane adjustable to ten positions, £300-400 at Bishop & Miller.
With its ‘county house’ panelled drawing room, large carved stone fireplaces and manicured courtyard garden, Doughton Manor is the quintessential Cotswolds manor house.
The Grade I listed estate, today a family home recently sold with an asking price of £3.25m, was built by John Seed in 1594 and acquired c.1623 in Richard Talboys who carried out substantial Jacobean alterations. It is his initials and the date of 1641 that appear in the porch and on the piers of the entrance gate.
The house has appeared a number of times in Country Life magazine, notably on the cover of the May 2012 edition when some the pieces on offer in the sale were also photographed.
