From Michael Jackson contracts to Motown programmes – the ultimate sale of David Gest's pop memorabilia

The collection of producer-turned-TV star David Gest is to be auctioned this month.

Jackson cheque

A cheque from 2001 signed by David Gest and counter signed by Michael Jackson plus a Michael Jackson photograph. The lot comes with a copy of a letter from David Gest's solicitor stating this item was formally his property. It is estimated at £400-600.

Gest, who died in 2016, owned a flat in the city and he kept his showbiz-themed collection in three storage units.

The sale at Cato Crane in conjunction with The Beatles Shop in Liverpool, is titled The Coronation & Liverpool Eurovision Celebration David Gest Pop Memorabilia Auction. It is part one and will be followed by another, final sale, in the coming months.

These follow similar auctions in 2020 at Cato Crane.

The timed online sale ends on May 21 and includes multiple items signed by Michael Jackson as well as

Gest, who was a friend of Jackson was the ex-husband of Liza Minnelli, gathered his mementos over many years.

A two-page contract for Michael Jackson’s 30th Anniversary Celebration The Solo Years. It is dated August 6, 2001 signed by Michael Jackson in black, Quincy Jones and David Gest. The lot is accompanied by a copy of a letter from David Gest’s solicitor stating this item was formally his property. It is estimated at £1000-1500.

Motown Revue

An original 1960s Motown Revue Tour Programme signed by various members of the groups featured in the programme including Smokie Robinson, Martha Reeves, Mary Wells, Lamont Dozier and Michael Jackson. It is estimated at £600-800.

This lot comprises four Michael Jackson 30th Anniversary Celebration Solo Years concert programmes from September 2001 at Madison Square Garden. Each programme has been signed by concert promoter David Gest as are estimated at £30-50.
