Wing Commander James Gilbert Sanders DFC Signature and obituary of one of the finest fighters pilots of WWII. 615 Squadron high scoring ace of the Battle of France and the Battle of Britain. He fell foul of a certain Group Captain with his forthright outspoken criticism of throwing far too many not fully trained thus inexperienced young pilots into combat during the Battle of Britain resulting in their deaths. As a result, he was passed over for both deserved honours and higher promotion. His wife had lost her first husband (and possibly a second) in WWII and did not want to be regularly reminded, and so Wg Cdr was not a member of the BOB Fighter Association until after her death. It was only in 1990, the 50th Anniversary of the Battle that he became involved in the Association and participated in the commemorative celebrations and agreed to meet the collector and provide his signature.
