Catherine Chambers Fortune, 2025 Acrylic on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) About Catherine Chambers is a figurative artist who documents poignant moments, often from her experiences of living abroad in Ethiopia and the Middle East. Catherine is inspired by environments and their inhabitants, capturing intimate moments of connectedness. However, as with all good portraiture, there is more than meets the eye to her work. These works ask the viewer to confront the complicated dynamics of love, care and identity. This is Catherine's second time working with Art on a Postcard. Her previous contributions zoomed in on feet from her larger paintings. This time, Catherine has created postcards looking at the hands in existing works of hers. Education 2009-2012 BA (Hons) Drawing and Applied Arts, University of the West of England, Bristol, UK Solo Exhibitions 2019 I Appreciate You, The Embassy of Ethiopia, London 2016 A Brother's Progress, Freespace Gallery, Kentish Town, London Red Lodge Chair, Red Lodge Museum, Park Row, Bristol Possession(s), The Tobacco Factory, Bristol Group Exhibitions 2024 Herbert Smith Freehills Award, National Portrait Gallery, London Women In Art Finalists, The Roundhouse, London RBA Rising Stars, Royal Over-Seas League, London Wells Contemporary Art, Wells Cathedral, Wells A Personal Treasure, The Nunnery Gallery, London 2023 Missed Letters, Making Space Gallery, London New Wave, Spitalfields Studios, London Awe and Wonder, Chaiya Art Awards, Oxo Gallery, London 2022 Football Art Prize, Millennium Gallery, Sheffield Galvanise, Spitalfields Studios, London Art on a Postcard, The Bomb Factory, London 2021 Summer Show, Royal Academy of Arts, London Sunny Art Prize, Sunny Art Centre, London 2020 Summer Exhibition, Green and Stone Gallery, London 2018 Summer Show, Royal Academy of Arts, London Awards 2024 3rd Prize for The Herbert Smith Freehills Prize at the National Portrait Gallery Royal Society of British Artists Rising Star Women in Art Prize finalist Gallery Representation Mall Galleries, London, UK Statement About AOAP Submitted Artwork Fly is a cropped detail from a larger painting currently being exhibited at the Mall Galleries annual Royal Society of British Artists exhibition. The painting continues a conversation Catherine introduced with her painting "Lying" which won third prize at the National Portrait Gallery in 2024. In this painting, the same sitter holds a bird securely; as it is, the bird cannot fly despite being born to do so. Catherine wants the audience to contemplate, if you have something (could be a relationship, land, artefacts...) but you have it by force or deceit, do you really have it at all? And is it still worth having? Class is a cropped detail from Catherine's larger painting "Between Classes". The girl chooses colours to fill the outlines of a princess. The postcard questions how the girl came to choose those specific colours and how they differ to the girls own image. The work explores ideas of care, influence and status; how they overlap, interact and differ. Fortune is a detail from Catherine's larger painting "Nafkot (Yeabsra)". A child holds a popular paper game, commonly known as a chatterbox or fortune teller. It was introduced to the girl by Catherine in an exchange of sharing games local to one and foreign to another. Games are a recurring theme in Catherine's work, highlighting how unlevel the playing field is in real life. First Hand is a detail from Catherine's larger painting "Holding Space". The hand is of a dear friend of the artist, and celebrates a friendship that challenges outside expectations. It is a prompt to think for oneself and to learn from trusted resources. Bianca Maria Raffaella Courcheval Early Morning, 2025 Acrylic on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) About Bianca Raffaella (b 1992, London) Working from memory and sensory cues rather than direct observation, Bianca Raffaella is a British artist and activist currently based in Margate. As a partially sighted artist, her ephemeral floral and figurative paintings draw viewers into her world by capturing fleeting moments suspended in persistent vision, where her sight is in constant motion, and images appear only briefly as faint shadows or flickers of light. Raffaella's ongoing series of textural flower paintings evoke the artist's experience of beauty in braille, which was how she first learned to read and write. Raffaella relies on touch in her painting process. Never losing contact with the canvas, she blends delicate hues of blue, beige, and dusty pink until they become an ethereal impression, cloudy details made with fingertips, brushstrokes or scrapes of a palette knife. Graduating with a First-Class Honours degree in 2016, Bianca Raffaella was the first registered blind student to graduate from Kingston University with a degree in the Visual Arts. Since completing her 2023/4 residency at the Tracey Emin Artist Residency (TEAR), Raffaella now works from TKE Studios, where she uses gestural fragments and impasto techniques to capture motion and visual shifts on the canvas. In 2021, Raffaella's work was selected for the Royal Academy of Arts' Summer Exhibition, coordinated by Yinka Shonibare, followed by her solo exhibition, Hushed Impressions, at Orleans House Gallery in 2023. She was also awarded the NatWest Entrepreneurship Funding Prize in 2019 for her bespoke sensory fashion label. An advocate for accessibility in the arts, Raffaella has shared her insights as a speaker at the Goethe Institut's Beyond Seeing project and as a panellist at Tate Modern's Please Touch the Art talk. Most recently, she was selected by Dame Tracey Emin for Flowers Gallery's 2024 Artist of the Day series, presenting a one-day solo exhibition as part of the programme's 25th edition. Mandy Racine Plumage, 2024 Acrylic on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) About Painting takes me to another place, my own special world inspired by the old masters and Baroque & Rococo imagery. I'm inspired by the composition, colour & flow of the works and love to put my own contemporary twist on it, painting in a very gestural, energetic way, which I would best describe as abstract figurative. I work mainly with acrylic, partly because of the speed & energy with which I paint and particularly enjoy trying to incorporate a real sense of movement - the figures, fabrics, landscape & gestures. Pia Pack Interlude, 2025 Acrylic, wax pastel, and pencil on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) About Pia Pack's work examines ideas surrounding motherhood and domestic life through an exploration of social interactions around the kitchen table; 'Table Talks'. Pia combines familiar patterns and shapes with repetition and overlapping to create looseness and tension. Through these contradictions, she expresses a universal statement about the challenges and satisfactions of human relationships. Her work speaks to engagement with family life, social expectations and daily patterns. Pia says of the works 'There is no shying away from the beauty and oddities of family life in these paintings.' Pia lives and works in Bristol and is represented by Gertrude. Pia studied painting at Wimbledon School of Art, Central St Martins and Bath School of Art and has been included in many group shows in London and in the U.S. In 2019, Alex Eagle invited Pia to take over their Soho studio with an exhibit entitled Table Talk. Whilst living in Los Angeles, Pia established the podcast 'What Artists Listen To' aimed at bringing artist's studio practises to life and building a community amongst creatives in the city and further afield. This communal sentiment has been continued recently with an initiative in London entitled 'The Binder of Women', organised by Pack to unite a group of 11 women artists to create a portfolio of works together. Lisa Golightly Green Boat, 2024 Acrylic on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) About Lisa Golightly strives to capture the essence of fleeting moments and the emotional landscapes of everyday life. Her paintings are an exploration of the intersection between memory and perception. Using vibrant colors and expressive brushwork, she creates a dialogue between abstraction and representation, inviting viewers to engage with and relate to their own memories and experiences. Found photographs and more recently 8mm home movies work as a starting point to her paintings. She is fascinated by the intricacies of relationships, the interplay of light and shadow, and the beauty found in imperfection. Each painting serves as a practice in storytelling, where layers of paint mimic the layers of our experiences, capturing the complexity of our emotions. Embracing a process-oriented approach to painting, she allows intuition to guide her hand. This spontaneity not only infuses her work with energy but also mirrors the unpredictability of life itself. Ultimately, the goal of the work is to create a sense of connection-to evoke introspection, longing, and sometimes sadness that resonates with others. Tracey Falcon Jenny 12, 2025 Acrylic on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) About A spinal injury in 2018 meant that multimedia artist Tracey Falcon was no longer able to make the heavier, more sculptural artwork she had been creating for the previous 20 or so years. As lockdown hit, she found her creativity returning and picked up a paintbrush and oils and was hooked. Each painting is a technical journey. Tracey is interested in colour, texture, and light almost more than the subject. Still-life studies work well for this kind of exploration - the tones and textures of fruit and the play of light we are all familiar with on these items we may take for granted every day in our homes and gardens. Lily Kemp A quiet stillness, 2025 Acrylic gouache on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) About With an underlying interest in exploring narratives touching on the fluidity of gender and identities; Lily Kemp's paintings explore escapism, storytelling, the act of dressing up and playing out imagined roles. Drawing from a range of visual references and written sources, through the process of collage she interweaves figures and images from popular culture alongside found images of landscapes and her own personal photographs. Looking in part at the relationships between popular culture, gender norms and our sense of self. More specifically at our relationship with fashion, how the way we choose to present ourselves can be considered an extension of ourselves and a way of exploring our identities outside of socially constructed binary categorisations. The sense of scale in Lily's paintings is often distorted and exaggerated with an interchangeable indistinct relationship between her figures and the space surrounding them, her landscapes seeming to breathe a life of their own. Scenes are often hyper idealised and fantastical; her figures living within these imagined worlds and dream like realities which are both familiar, yet also border on the performative and theatrical. Catherine Chambers Fly, 2025 Acrylic on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) About Catherine Chambers is a figurative artist who documents poignant moments, often from her experiences of living abroad in Ethiopia and the Middle East. Bex Massey Queen, 2025 Watercolour and acrylic on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) About Bex Massey's work examines the role of painting and the language of display in the face of popular culture. She amalgamates simulacra and allegory to investigate notions of 'worth' via motifs and tones extracted from her childhood. Massey's previous works and exhibitions have engaged the codes and history of queer culture, along with markers of selfhood and Northern identity. Recent works have become visually softer, more sedate and uncomfortable as the unease and 'value' in this series is created via the relationships between the minimal conflations. The image pairings within these paintings encourage allusion to female bodies, building an underlying sexual tension imbued by the artist into quotidian objects. Compositionally the couplet mirror each other and their visceral epicentres form a visual echo. This is further extended by an implied auditory element as the scenes contain the potential of noise, whether it is the moment a cat yawns or fizzy drink explodes - force in one image is released in its partner. These climactically coupled, female laden, tension imbued depictions are a nod to societies persistently binary notions of gender and therein the habitual reminder that outside the male gaze, Female + Female = Incorrect. Masseys recent fertility journey with her partner has brought this into sharp focus, and this process is alluded to in the titles of canvas which are named after the sperm donors they have considered. This additional layer encourages the work to be viewed via a reproductive lens. Education 2012-2013: MA Fine Art. Merit. Chelsea School of Art, London. 2004-2007: Ba Hons Fine Art. 2:1. Bianca Maria Raffaella Courcheval in Mist, 2025 Acrylic on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) About Bianca Raffaella (b 1992, London) Working from memory and sensory cues rather than direct observation, Bianca Raffaella is a British artist and activist currently based in Margate. Mandy Racine Feather Hat, 2024 Acrylic on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) About Painting takes me to another place, my own special world inspired by the old masters and Baroque & Rococo imagery. Julie Caves Malibu, 2025 Acrylic and varnish on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) About Julie Caves is a painter of still lifes. Sometimes she approaches her subject directly and paints roomscapes and objects from observation, but often she focuses just on the colour and light separated from the subject, letting the painting develop intuitively, and those works are usually read as abstract paintings. She likes having these two ways of working, that she switches back and forth between. She says: I often make a body of work because I have a hunch about an idea, I don't know if it will work, but I want to see what it will look like. The materials and process of painting are very important to me. I love a good painting composition, just on the edge of imbalance. I adore a thin stain of colour barely washed on, next to a juicy slab of thick, pasty paint. Caroline Coon Skinscape: A symptomatic Hepatitis C rash - let's cure it! 1/2, 2024 Acrylic on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) About Caroline Coon was born in London and in 1967 she went to study fine art at Central Saint Martin's School of Art. There she carved out a distinctive style of hyper-realist figurative painting, made through a feminist socialist lens. She has always been vocal critic of the misogyny, confronting and challenging the problematic views towards women that she both witnesses and was subjected to. The artist's political activism is apparent across her fine art practice. Her ongoing Brothel Series paintings relates to her own experience as a sex worker. In 2018, at the age of 73, Coon had her first ever solo show at The Gallery Liverpool titled: 'The Great Offender'. This was followed by a solo exhibition at TRAMPS in London (2019) curated by Peter Doig and Parinaz Magadassi. Her work featured in 'Mixing It Up: Painting Today' at the Hayward Gallery, London (2021). Two paintings by the artist in the Tate's permanent collection. Coon's work is currently highlighted in the group exhibition 'Women in Revolt!', which is touring the UK from Tate Britain, London. A two-person exhibition with Francesca DiMattio will take place at Stephen Friedman Gallery, New York in January 2025. The artist is represented by the Stephen Friedman Gallery and she lives and works in London. * GEOFFREY ROBINSON (BRITISH b. 1945), JUG OF FLOWERS acrylic on board, signed, titled label versoframed and under glass image size 31cm x 41cm, overall size 44cm x 54cm Label verso: Belgrave Gallery, St Ives.Note: Born in East Africa, Geoffrey studied at Bournemouth College of Art in the 1960s. His professional painting career began in 1990, at a seminal moment, after many months spent filming and editing a video documentary about the eminent artist, Gillian Ayers. With her encouragement, and the legacy of the St Ives School as inspiration, Geoffrey set out to paint seriously. In 2001, he was selected as an ‘Invited Artist’ at the Discerning Eye exhibition at The Mall Galleries in London, and in 2004 he and his work were featured in an ITV Meridian documentary. Over the years, Geoffrey’s work has been exhibited widely including galleries and art fairs across the UK, as well as Nantucket Island and New Zealand. The author, art critic and artist, Peter Davies, says of Geoffrey’s work: ‘The eclecticism of post-modern culture is present in a distinctive stylistic composite, which has the look of originality as well as of retro familiarity. However much Robinson’s art pays homage to the 1950s, it reflects both the subsequent era of popular culture and design in which he grew up, and the years he spent as a commercial artist, musician and composer before he was finally able to paint full time.’ Geoffrey says of his own work: ‘My approach to painting has always been to look inside myself, rather than to interpret what goes in through my eyes. I make the paintings I want to see. To look inside one’s self is to find memories of other art, dreams, poetry, pleasing rhythms and colour. Everything is abstract when you look inside yourself.’

A striking original oil on canvas by Romanian artist Horia Damian, titled Forme de San Francisco/Clair de Lune 1980. Damian’s art has been part of many exhibitions and collections around the world, including in the Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris; The Venice Biennale; the Grand Palais, Paris; the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and the Museum of Modern Art, New York. This work is a finished study for a larger acrylic painting that Damian exhibited at Art Basel, providing an essential connection to the artist's larger-scale explorations of architectural themes. This minimalist and geometric abstraction presents a stark architectural form emerging from a dark foreground against a deep blue sky, evoking a sense of monumentality and spatial tension. The subtle play of light and shadow enhances the structure's sculptural quality, a hallmark of Damian's fascination with architectural and metaphysical space. Damian's compositions often draw inspiration from architectural forms, cosmic themes, and modernist abstraction, aligning with influences from his studies in Paris and association with key avant-garde figures. The piece is signed Damian and dated 1980 on the lower center right above the number 4 painted in red. On verso features two labels and inscriptions that provide the artwork's history: two labels from Andre Chenue et Fils Transports Internationaux, a Paris-based art handling and transportation company with the location Montparnasse, Damian and New York with identifiers. NEW-YORK is handwritten in black on the stretcher bar, referencing to its destination. A seminal work within Damian's oeuvre, this painting exemplifies his refined sense of form, perspective, and atmosphere, making it a compelling addition to the most selective collections of Postwar and contemporary geometric abstraction.
