A Brass Striking and Repeating Alarm Carriage Clock, signed Drocourt, retailed by Reid & Sons, Paris, circa 1890, carrying handle and repeat button, enamel dial with Roman and Arabic numerals, alarm dial, twin barrel movement with a silvered platform lever escapement, striking on a gong, movement backplate stamped with maker's mark DC for Drocourt and numbered 33996, case numbered 33996, 18.5cm high over handle see illustration 18.03.20 Case surfaces are discoloured, dial looks clean, strike and repeat are fuctioning, going train is not working, original platform escapement, movement needs cleaning.
A 17th Century Brass Striking Lantern Clock with Very Unusual Early Conversions to a Side Fitted Pendulum and Half Hour Passing Strike, unsigned, circa 1660, four posted frame case, pierced dolphin frets, turned finials, 6-1/4-inch silvered Roman chapter ring, dial centre finely engraved with floral decoration, central alarm disc (alarm work now missing), single hand, two train thirty hour weight driven movement with outside countwheel striking on a top mounted bell and a early conversion second hammer passing strike on the half hour, hook and spikes, side pendulum bob, 37cm high see illustration From the Brian Loomes Private Clock Collection The manner of the conversion, as well as the addition of a second hammer to strike half hours (very much a feature of French clocks), strongly suggests the clock was converted to pendulum in France. Conversions from balance wheel to verge pendulum were usually done in the third quarter of the seventeenth century and are very uncommon and are highly sought after today. 17.06.20 Side doors are missing, back panel is later, later spikes, bottom plate with a vacant square hole possibly for a hammer spring location hole, alarm work is now missing, early conversion from balance wheel regulator to a verge side pendulum and a later addition of a second hammer for half hour passing strike, in going order, with two weights.

A good mid 19th century French engraved brass repeating carriage clockPaul Garnier, Paris, No. 3130The one-piece case with engraved turned handle on folding supports over a large bevelled glass inspection panel and repeat button, the frame and solid shuttered rear door engraved all over with foliate scrolls and panels of lattice work, on a matching base, the signed rectangular white enamel Roman dial with blue numerals and typical fleur de lys hands, over an Arabic alarm-setting dial, the numbered bell-striking movement with silvered lever platform escapement and bimetallic balance, the hand setting is effected through an aperture in the bell and this arbor now has a push-fit knurled knob in place for ease of use. A good second half of the 19th century French engraved gorge cased petite sonnerie striking and repeating carriage clock in original caseNumbered 702Engraved allover, including the rippled handle, with flowerheads and foliate scrolls, the top with oval bevelled glass aperture in a mask over fully engraved side panels and a shuttered rear door, the white enamel Roman dial with Breguet style blued steel hands set over an Arabic alarm setting dial within the foliate mask, the movement with gilt lever platform escapement and bimetallic balance striking on a pair of blued steel coiled gongs. In the original tooled leather travelling case with brass C-shaped handle over twin brass locking hasps. With later double-ended key. Not currently ticking or striking. 14cms (5.5ins) high. A mid 17th century lantern clockThe strapped bell surmounted by a later gilt brass knop, on cup-and-cover finials, tapering Doric columns and ball feet, with right hand door and iron backplate (the latter displaying the holes for the alarm train), the dial with Roman chapter ring engraved with an inner quarter hour track and tall wheatear half-hour marks, the centre with original alarm setting disc framed by a ring of flowers emanating from VI, with an old steel hand, the weight driven movement originally with balance control, but now converted to verge and pendulum. Note, this clock has remained untouched for many generations, and shows the commensurate rust and grime. A fine and rare early 20th century French giant, grande sonnerie stiking carriage clock with running seconds, calendar and alarm, with case and original numbered keyMade by Drocourt for Tiffany & Co, Geneva, numbered 14547The gorge case with typical rippled handle and elaborate cornice over shaped uprights and a concave base, with heavy bevelled glass panels, the white enamel Roman and Arabic dial with running seconds at XII and good matching gilt hands, signed for the retailers and set over a shaped aperture revealing three subsidiaries displaying day of the week, time of alarm and date of the month, all within an engraved mask of foliate scrolls, the substantial signed and numbered movement with large gilt platform and cut and compensated bimetallic balance, striking the hours and quarters on a pair of blued steel coiled gongs set in a block stamped F.D., the trains wound via the original numbered key, all hands set with integral knurled knobs, the case numbered to the underside and set with a three-position selection lever offering a choice of 'Striking, Silent and Full Striking' options. The leather travelling case with applied printed label to the underside for 'The Goldsmiths and Silversmiths Company Ltd., and with decorative brass button feet in the form of flowerheads, (lid and sliding front cover lacking).
