Registration - A597FALChassis No. - WBAAD720000510361M.O.T. - June 2025Odometer - 62,470 Opportunities like this come about incredibly rarely. A cherished, one-owner example of one of the 1980s best-handling sports-saloons, this BMW 323i Alpina has been carefully looked after by its sole owner during the course of its 40 years on the road. ‘A597 FAL’ was bought new from Sytner BMW of Nottingham, and is believed to be one of the only – perhaps the only – example of an Alpina-tuned four-door E30 3-Series left on UK roads. Presented in red with deep Alpina front splitter, side graphics, and black rear spoiler, the ensemble is completed with classic Alpina alloys. Powered by Alpina’s tuned version of the BMW 2,316cc petrol straight-six petrol engine and manual gearbox, ‘A597 FAL’ boasts optional extras such as a full cream leather interior, central locking, electric sunroof, green tinted glass, rear headrests and the original Blaupunkt Boston radio cassette player with electric aerial. The original features on this car are astounding, including Sytner dealership plates, two sets of keys, original book packs, and sales invoice; there’s even the business card of the vehicle’s salesman. ‘A697 FAL’ has always been kept garaged from new and is being offered for sale by the estate of its late owner, complete with a huge history file, including a full service history and MOTs supporting the displayed 62,470 mileage. The car’s paintwork, bodywork, interior, electrics, engine, and transmission are all described by the person acting on behalf of the late owner’s estate as ‘excellent’, and ‘A597 FAL’ is offered at no reserve, further adding to its appeal.Incredibly rare right-hand drive E30 AlpinaOne owner from newOffered at no reserveWith BMW’s introduction of the E30 3-Series saloon in 1982, Alpina - recognised by German authorities as a manufacturer in its own right in 1984 - took the second generation of BMW’s compact executive saloon and worked its magic once again. Released in 1984, the Alpina C1 uses a bored out 2.3-litre engine, creating more power, but crucially considering the company’s focus on touring, a torquier unit. At first sight, the Alpina is little more than a tweaked BMW 325i, but the devil is in the details, and Alpina’s care in building the engine and overall set-up are what transform the 3 Series. Fewer than 50 C1 2.3 models were built over the course of production, which lasted from 1984 until 1986, when it was replaced with the more powerful C1 2.5.Please Note: V5 states BMW 323i – Original Bill of Sale states Alpina BMW Sports as the model on the original Sytner Invoice. – Vendor to do own due diligence

[MCCARTHYISM]: An unusual group of various signed letters and documents etc. relating to a small number of individuals who were central to (and victims of) McCarthyism, the political repression and persecution of left-wing individuals and a campaign spreading fear of alleged communist and Soviet influence on American institutions and of Soviet espionage in the United States during the late 1940s and 1950s, comprising Joseph McCarthy (1908-1957) American politician who spearheaded the campaign, also known as the Second Red Scare. Vintage signed 10 x 8 photograph of McCarthy seated in a three-quarter length pose with an opened book resting on his lap. Signed in black fountain pen ink to the image, partially across a slightly darker area; J. Edgar Hoover (1895-1972) American law enforcement administrator, the first Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) 1924-72. An unusual T.L.S., J. Edgar Hoover, one page, Washington D.C., 18th July 1957, to Viva C. Coleman, on the printed stationery of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Hoover acknowledges receipt of his correspondent´s card ´advising me about your very fine hobby´ and adding that it was kind of her ´to include me among the persons from whom you desired a statement concerning the Bible´, continuing ´The Holy Bible is the Word of God - handed down for all generations to come - as a guidepost for living. It is the sacred writings of the divinely-inspired prophets of old and the apostles who shared in the life and teachings of Jesus Christ and preserved for us the wonderful lessons of His redemption, In this book will be found the guidance, the inspiration, the consolation and the hope that is ever man´s need in realizing his goal of everlasting salvation. This is the Bible´s meaning for me´; Dalton Trumbo (1905-1976) American screenwriter of Roman Holiday (1953) and other Hollywood movies, Academy Award winner. Trumbo was one of the Hollywood Ten and refused to testify before the House Un-American Activities Committee in 1947 during their investigation of alleged Communist influences in the motion picture industry. D.S., Dalton Trumbo, one page, 4to, n.p., 28th November 1958 (although presumably actually 1959). The document takes the form of a letter to Mr. I. H. Prinzmetal and states, in full, 'This is to confirm that Peter Flint is a nom de plume of mine and that I signed the agreement dated May 1, 1959 with Carlyle-Alpina, S.A., relating to the sale of a screenplay based upon the novel entitled ''The Other Side of the Coin'' by Pierre Boulle'. Two file holes to the upper edge. Together with a second D.S., Peter Flint, by Trumbo, using his nom-de-plume, four pages, folio, n.p., 1st May 1959. The typed document is a contract made between Flint [Trumbo] and Carlyle-Alpina S.A., stating that Flint is the sole author of the screenplay entitled The Other Side of the Coin, based upon a novel of the same name by Pierre Boulle, and that he agrees to transfer all the rights to the purchaser for the sum of $60,000, to be paid in six equal instalments, the first being 'upon the date hereof or upon the delivery to the Purchaser of the complete screenplay suitable in all respects for production as a first-class motion picture based upon the aforesaid novel The Other Side of the Coin'. Signed at the conclusion and countersigned by a representative of Carlyle-Alpina S.A. With two file holes to the head of the pages; Pierre Boulle (1912-1994) French novelist who is remembered for two works, The Bridge over the River Kwai (1952) and Planet of the Apes (1963), both of which were made into award winning films (for the former Boulle was also credited as the screenwriter, despite not even speaking English, as the two actual screenwriters had been blacklisted). T.L.S., Pierre Boulle, one page, 4to, Paris, 21st May 1962, to Wheel Productions Ltd. Boulle refers to the contract he made with his correspondents on 16th June 1958 in which he transferred the motion picture rights of his novel Les Voies du Salut ('The Other Side of the Coin') to them, and continues to agree to an amendment in one of the clauses, ´If principal photography of a motion picture based upon the Property has not commenced within six years from the date hereof, the Owner shall have the right to terminate this agreement by notice in writing.....´ . Countersigned at the foot by a representative of Wheel Productions Ltd. Two files to the upper edge. An interesting selection of letters and documents. Generally VG, 5Trumbo, one of the members of the Hollywood Ten (the first systematic Hollywood blacklist instituted on 25th November 1947, the day after ten writers and directors were cited for contempt of Congress for refusing to testify before the House Un-American Activities Committee), continued to work clandestinely on major films, writing under pseudonyms and with his work being uncredited. The Other Side of the Coin was due to have been made into a film under the direction of Otto Preminger, but the project was not completed, in part due to Trumbo's prior commitment to the writing of Spartacus (1960) for which (along with Exodus in the same year) he was given public screen credit, thereby marking the beginning of the end of the Hollywood blacklist for Trumbo and other affected screenwriters.

**Please note the car is not fitted with the dog ring gearbox but a CAE short shifter kit fitted by Pro Alfa. **A smart example of Abarth's ultimate FIAT 500 development, the 190bhp 695 Biposto optioned with the £8,500 'Dog Ring' gearbox. In recent years, Abarth has essentially become to FIAT what Alpina is to BMW; a high-performance 'skunkworks' division that takes something good and makes it great. Based on the cute and much-loved 500, the Abarth 500 came first, then the 595 Competizione and finally, at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, they launched the 695 Biposto. The Biposto designation comes from the Italian for 'two seats', indicating its focus on performance. The car has gained notoriety for its unique and engaging driving experience and one of its key features was the phenomenally expensive optional 'Dog Ring' gearbox, developed by Bacci Romano. The 1.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine was lifted straight from Abarth’s 695 Assetto Corsa race car, with a 10bhp power increase over the Abarth 500 and 595 to 190bhp and 184lb/ft of torque. Fitted with an Akrapovic dual-stage exhaust with twin titanium tailpipes, 0-60mph takes just 5.9 seconds on the way to 143mph, retardation is provided by high-performance Brembo brakes and stability is assisted by a mechanical self-locking diff.Visually, the Biposto has a distinctive look with a large rear spoiler, carbon front and rear diffusers, lightweight OZ 18" alloy wheels, a new front bumper, wider arches and new side-skirts. Buyers could have it in any colour they like, as long as it was Matte Performance Grey. The car is incredibly light, weighing in at 974kg dry with the interior being somewhat spartan, with a tiny hint of luxury. It features leather and Alcantara Sabelt Abarth Corsa racing bucket seats with 695 stitching, optional carbon shells, a titanium rear brace by Poggipolini and carbon fibre door panels. No radio or air conditioning with the focus on saving weight. This 2016 example presents incredibly well, arguably even better than new, due to its recently reupholstered interior and is thankfully fitted with the all-important Dog Ring gearbox. It has covered a mere 16,200 miles from new in the hands of its three owners and comes with a full-service history, with another service undertaken to prepare it for sale, along with a fresh MOT. The car is fully ceramic-coated with its callipers re-coloured to the Biposto 220 branding. It’s finished in the usual Matte Grey paintwork with Lime Green details and bronze wheels. The interior has been fabulously upgraded with tan leather seats, the gear shift surround, door cards and carpets and these features make this little pocket-rocket stand out for all the right reasons, as if the £8,500 gearbox wasn’t already enough of a standout feature.Having partaken in just two half-day track sessions, our vendor has shamelessly been bitten by the track day bug and with the Biposto’s bigger Italian brother having already arrived, it is time for the Abarth to find its next home.Presumably due to cost, only a small number ever left the factory with this amazing gearbox, making it a sought after collector's item. So seldom seen in the UK, with examples fetching comfortably north of £35,000 globally, this very attractively priced little Italian jewel could be a fun addition for any Collection or enthusiast.SpecificationMake: ABARTHModel: 695 BIPOSTOYear: 2016Chassis Number: ZFA3120000J375297Registration Number: AP16 ZYFTransmission: ManualEngine Number: 1960160Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 16200 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: Tan LeatherClick here for more details and images

An original, UK-supplied, right-hand drive 735i SE (E23) completed as an Alpina B10 3.5 by Frank Sytner and extensively magazine-featured. Very rare and very special. In the absence of the 745i, there was a market in the UK for a more powerful 735i. Registration - TGC 397L Chassis No. - 3440961 M.O.T. - Exempt Odometer - 26,306 According to howmanyleft.co.uk there are just 15 examples of BMW’s 2002 Touring registered in the UK today, making ‘TGC 397L’ a rather rare motor car. This RHD model rolled off the Munich production line in 1972 and was imported into the UK in 1983. Presented in original and eye-catching Golf yellow paintwork, this three-door hatchback has received certain modifications to give it a sportier look, performance and feel. The 2-litre engine has been fitted with new Weber Twin 40 carburettors, and the car has been lowered 50mm with Alpina-style wheels and equipped with an Alpina-style front spoiler. The vendor describes the engine, four-speed manual transmission, electrics, paintwork and highly original black vinyl interior as ‘good’. With the huge membership and event calendar of BMW Car Club GB, the new owner of ‘TGC 397L’ will have unending opportunities to show it off amongst like-minded enthusiasts. BMW produced its 02 series of two-door compact, sporty cars from 1966 to 1975. The 02 series evolved from the Neue Klasse (New Class) four-door executive saloons, the BMW 1500, 2000 C and 2000CS, which had returned the company to solvency after it found itself in dire financial straits in the 1950s. 25cm shorter, and faster, lighter and more affordable than its big ‘sisters’, the first 02 Series model, the 1.6-litre 1600-2 (later known as the 1602), found a ready audience, not least because it also handled better than its more luxurious and larger siblings. In 1968 BMW brought out the 2-litre 2002, and with it a new era began for the company, as its reputation for a producer of affordable but high-quality performance cars was established. The 02 Series was produced in saloon, convertible, targa and hatchback (Touring) models and all found an enthusiastic audience – and had an appeal which lasts to this day. The 2002 in its various guises was produced from 1968 to 1974 and, in 1975, the 02 series was replaced with 3 Series, apart from the 1502, which continued in production until 1977. But by 1975 the 02 Series had already done its job, rescuing BMW from the prospect of financial disaster and reputational obscurity, and putting it firmly on the map and well on the way to being viewed as ‘The Ultimate Driving Machine’. In summary: · One of just 15 2002 Touring models believed to be registered in the UK today (source: howmanyleft.co.uk) · An unusual, practical and highly collectable classic · Upgraded with Weber Twin 40 carburettors, Alpina-style wheels and an Alpina-style front spoiler
