A GERMAN IMPERIAL COURT SWORD OF EARLY 20TH CENTURY, by the maker J.J.Runkel of Solingen, Germany, the blade is approximately 82 cm in length, with flat top blade bearing the maker marks, also hardly visible is stamped what appears to be 'D.Neff' on the Ricasso, Johan Justus Runkel was born in 1751, but around 1779 he left Germany for London, where he set up his Swords business, importing blades etc from Solingen. Runkel died in 1808, the blade on this sword has been etched with the Geo III Cypher(dating it to 1796-1801) and other Crown & Standard markings along each side of the top third of the blade, the Vendors Grandfather, Dr Ernest Charles BARNES who was a 2nd Lieutenant in the Royal Army Medical Corps in WW1, gave the sword to the vendor when he was a child, Barnes served with distinction in WW1 and with this lot are copied photos of Barnes in Uniform and on Horseback in France, the scabbard is of leather and metal trim design ,but wear and tear over the years has caused the metal tip to break away from the scabbard, but is present, an interesting sword worthy of further research
WWI DEATH PLAQUE AND MEMORIAL SCROLL, named to William Richard Burgin, East Yorkshire Regiment, The plague comes in its cardboard outer sleeve and the memorial scroll is in its posting tube, the tube is addressed to a Mrs A Burgin, Edward Street, the parade in Birmingham, there are no records on CWGC or soldiers who died in the great war (SDGW) but some records exist showing he was discharged from the army in November 1915, this lot is well worthy of further research, also included is a group photograph, a red regular army pay book named to Sidney Bowyer and a cased silver fob with a picture of a soldier on it

VERY NICE WWI AND LATER FAMILY GROUP OF MEDALS, to include a framed WWI pair of medals awarded to Wesley Tucker who was Private 1994 Royal Army Medical Corps and his sons Double GSM (General Service Medals) with LSGC medal who served in the RAF, the GSM's have bars for Cyprus and South Arabia, each medal is correctly name to LAC 4129157 J.R.Tucker RAF, also included is a belt buckle that was picked up during his RAF service days
THREE SWAGGER/PARADE STICKS, to include Royal Army Medical Corps, Repton OTC & Royal West Surrey Regiment, all three sticks are of different ages and the RAMC has got a white metal buckle or band part way down, the Repton OTC cane is in good condition apart from some of the outer coating has split, the black Royal West Surrey Regiment has been polished but the naming on the badge and South Africa are still visible
WWI DISTINGUISHED CONDUCT MEDAL AND 1914-15 TRIO OF MEDALS NORT STAFFORDSHIRE REGT, the medals come complete with the Princess Mary Tin given to Private William J Richards, William served with the North Staffs Regiment and was issue with the service number 2284, this later changed to 240353, the medals are correctly impressed with the 1914-15 star showing Williams army number 2284 and the war, victor and DCM showing his second number 240353, William was born in Tamworth Staffordshire and on the 1911 census he was living at number 11 Ludgate, he was working as a printers errand lad, William landed in France on 04/03/1915 and went on to be awarded the DCM for his bravery in the field and the following extract appeared in the London Gazette on 17th April 1918 ' For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during an enemy attack. He brought up stores and rations to the captured trenches, utterly regardless of personal danger.' Williams brother Francis Richards also served in WWI but he is sadly buried at Tamworth Cemetry after passing away at home in February 1917, but his medals are not amongst these, this is an exceptional set of medals and the DCM is the oldest British award for gallantry and was a second level military decoration, only ranked below the Victoria cross, also included is a copy of a family photograph where William can be seen as the first gentleman from the left

Published soon after the D-Day invasion. Very good condition, apart from lacking top 2 inches of front board (inscription removed?)

Unusual original Trench map of Saint Quentin and area around Neuville St Amand, Itancourt and Mezieres covering the area South to below Vendeuil, 1:20,000 with a number of trenches shown, Mars 1917, Published by the French Army, large thick paper map. Together with German Trench map centered on Regnieville, Fey etc with German units added by hand and French gun positions shown, together with dense trench systems, dated 1918 in pencil and Feldart Regt no 95. Note is two spliced together and may have been cut down. Two further Trench maps of the Russian Front produced by the German Army c.1916 with trenches shown, 4 in all.

A rare 1912 Siemens Military marked War Games boxed set. The mahogany box is stamped on the LH side with SIEMENS BROS & Co. LTD. LONDON 1912 with two War Department arrows above 64 & 78, has in the base: two pairs of dividers stamped with the WD arrow above 46, three pairs of tweezers stamped with the WD arrow above either 46 or 52 and ASTON & MANDER LTD., a boxed Rotameter stamped ASTON & MANDER LTD. 1912 with the WD arrow, and three 6 inch wooden rulers stamped ASTON & MANDER LTD 1912 with the WD arrow above 52. There are three mahogany trays with hinged lids and brass hooks, each tray is stamped on the RH side with SIEMENS BROS & Co. LTD. LONDON 1912 and are lifted in and out of the box by blue tapes, the three trays contain hand painted metal War Gaming accessories, one tray for the Red Army, one for the Blue Army with the third tray containing the Umpires Set of a complete Red & Blue Army (these all appear to be complete). There are three printed paper on rigid card information cards corresponding with the labels in the trays showing the breakdown of pieces for each Army along with other information pertaining to the Armies. Printed along the bottom: 1753.W 2028/1195.335.8.12. Malby & Sons. Lith. The box measures 30.5cms (12ins) wide by 26.5cms (10.5ins) and 11.5cms (4.5ins) high. Note: The Army Manoeuvres of 1912 was the last military exercise of its kind conducted by the British Army before the outbreak of WW1. The Red Army was commanded by Lieutenant General Douglas Haig and the Blue Army by Lieutenant General James Grierson, Haig lost calling into question his ability as a field commander. Condition ReportThe tapes for lifting the trays in and out have been replaced. The main box has water staining. The metal pieces appear to be complete
Army & Navy Stores officers First Aid Kit belonging to Lieutenant Colonel TR Ubsdell who served in both the Boer War & WW1. Late 19th or early 20th century Leather covered Army & Navy Stores 105 Victoria Street, London S.W. officers First Aid Kit embossed on the lid with the officers name: T.R. UBSDELL. Containg various pills and potions in two layers of trays, some of which are in their original containers. Width 21cms (8.25ins) by 14cms (5.5ins) by 6cms (2.375ins) high. Auctioneers note: Thurlow Richardson Ubsdell was born 31st December 1872 in New York, his mother Genevieve was an American heiress married to an Englishman. He was a graduate of Jesus College Cambridge and when the Boer War broke out he was commissioned from the University Training School as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Royal Field Artillery on the 26th May 1900. He subsequently served in South Africa and was awarded the Queens South Africa Medal with Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal and South Africa 01 clasps. He remained with the RFA, was promoted to Captain and retired on 23rd August 1912. At the outbreak of WW1 he re-enlisted with the RFA on 26th August 1914, he was twice Mentioned in Despatches (1914 & 1917) and was awarded the Distinguished Service Order in 1917. He was promoted to Temporary Lieutenant Colonel and finally resigned his commission on 28th July 1920. He died on 23rd February 1955 in Milton, HampshireCondition Report: Remains of a leather strap to the sides of the kit. Marks and scratches to the leather

The note book which is a 1917 dated Army book has been written in pencil on a daily basis from Monday 16th September through to the 19th October 1940, each entry is about reporting to the Observation Post at night, the names of those present and any observations including: Planes over, Gunfire West of O.P., Plane east to west, Gun Fire southwest, Flares from northeast, Two bombs dropped over Bedford, etc., together with three original typed Orders for 13TH NORTHANTS BN. HOME GUARD dated 1943 & 1944
A 19th century French army officers sword in its original metal scabbard. Having matching serial numbers to the knuckle guard and scabbard: 17693 S. No makers name. Blade length 76.5cms (30.125ins)Condition ReportThe sword is well worn and the blade has corroded all over. The brass knuckle guard and handle have tarnished all over. The scabbard is also well worn and is pitted all over. Commensurate with age.
