Hercules Balmoral Gent's Bicycle with Power Pak Cyclemotor Attachment Engine no. L32530Cyclemotors were a popular means of cheap transport in the early 1950s; the Power Pak being a 49cc single-cylinder two-stroke engine complete with fuel tank, which attached to a bicycle's seat stays and drove the rear tyre by means of a friction roller. It was claimed that the Power Pak could be fitted in only 20 minutes. Designed and manufactured by Sinclair Goddard & Co Ltd of London W2, this high quality cyclemotor remained on sale until the early 1960s, by which time the market for economical basic transport had been taken over by the moped. This particular Power Pak is attached to a Hercules Balmoral bicycle with three-speed Sturmey Archer hub gear, which is believed to date from the late 1950s. There are no documents with this Lot, which is sold strictly as viewed, its mechanical condition being unknown.Key not requiredFootnotes:All lots are sold 'as is/where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to bidding.Lot to be sold without reserve. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com

ROYAL INTEREST: a George III inlaid silver and lacquer snuff box and associated itemsunmarked, circa 1790 Of curved rectangular form, with a hinged cover, the whole inlaid with silver and filigree work, together with a photograph of Admiral Sir Basil Vernon Brooke K.C.V.O. in uniform and an unsigned handwritten letter of provenance believed to be written by Marian Crawford 'Crawfie', governess to Princess Elizabeth (the future Queen) and Princess Margaret. (3)Footnotes:ProvenanceThe framed photo, snuff-box and accompanying handwritten letter of provenance, were allegedly consigned directly into auction by Marian Crawford's own family. This particular lot originally came up for sale at Taylors auction house in Montrose, Scotland, on Saturday 10th November 2012 in the 'Paintings, Porcelain, Furniture, Marine, Militaria, Ethnic Art & Coin Sale', under Lot 1250. The three items above were then subsequently sold to Blackwood Antiques in late 2012, and have changed hands several times since.Marian Crawford 'Crawfie' (1909–1988) In 1932 Marion Crawford moved from Fife to the heart of the Royal Household, acting as governess for the future Queen Elizabeth and Princess Margaret when they were just little girls. Tall, strict and kindly, she stayed for 17 years and 'Crawfie', as they fondly called her, was not only their teacher, but their constant confidante and companion.Crawfie guided the girls through the drama of the abdication of their uncle, the upheaval of their parents' accession and the trauma of the Second World War. She took shelter with them both at Birkhall on the Balmoral Estate in Aberdeenshire, and also within Windsor Castle's dungeon bomb shelters. Subsequently she was also on the scene when Elizabeth first met Philip. Yet, at the end of her service, the royals cut her off. The reason? A harmless memoir, 'The Little Princesses'. Crawfie's own account of life with the princesses is now all but forgotten, but in 1950 it was a US-UK sensation and her discreet and loving memoir saw her punished for the rest of her life; ostracised from the Royal Family forever. This letter of provenance, purportedly in Crawfie's own hand and written in April 1982 in her dotage, relates to her friendship with Admiral Sir Basil Vernon Brooke K.C.V.O., who was Head of the Royal Household during the Second World War. In precis, Crawfie writes that the Admiral sent her his precious snuff box and photograph (also included in this lot), a month before his death. She attached this testimony to the back of his photograph and recalls her friendship with him. She states that he had carried this snuff box with him his whole adult life, 'going all over the world with him, through many naval battles ... During the first 6 months of the last war he and I were incarcerated in Birkhall with the Princesses - no one could have been so wonderful, and so proud to be chosen by the King to guard his daughters. He was much loved by the King and Queen - known to everyone as 'B.V'. He thought there was no one in the world to compare with Princess Elizabeth. We had such fun at Birkhall inspite of Hitler and Lord Haw Haw! 'Lilibet' was not at the 'coming down to dinner stage' but spent an hour each evening with B.V. who taught her all sorts of card games ... One evening we were highly elated over a big naval victory so B.V. drank champagne from my pink evening slipper!!! Now at 72 that really warms my heart and makes me think of gracious living and romantic times.'For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com

* HOWARD BUTTERWORTH (SCOTTISH b. 1945) THE RIVER DEE (ROYAL DEESIDE) oil on canvas, signedframedimage size 60cm x 90cm, overall size 77cm x 107cmProvenance: We are grateful to The Butterworth Gallery for confirming: "the location is Royal Deeside Aberdeenshire probably painted in in the late 80's and early 90's. The River - Is the River Dee from the South Deeside Road between Aboyne and Dinnet, just before the sawmill with Morven and has a wee cottage and views of the gliding strip fields". The typical gallery price for a Howard Butterworth of these dimensions is in excess of £9000. Note: Born in Rochdale in 1945, Howard Butterworth is a renowned Scottish artist who has lived and painted professionally in Northern Scotland since 1968. Howard captures the atmospheric light and colours of Scotland especially around Balmoral, Royal Deeside, Cairngorms National Park and the Scottish Highlands. Capturing the moods and seasons as only an Aberdeenshire-based artist painting outdoors can, Butterworth paints 'en plein air' and he describes his style of painting as "emotional realism". He conveys the sense of being in a particular place at a particular moment in time and the experience and feeling of Nature's constantly changing colours and light. Howard Butterworth paintings are held in private and corporate collections worldwide, particularly his paintings of Scotland including those of native birchwoods, Caledonian pine forests, heather covered moorland, snow-capped mountains and the lively waters and bridges of Royal Deeside. Howard Butterworth's patrons include private and corporate buyers with several paintings featuring in the Royal Collections of H.M. Queen Elizabeth II and Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother who closely supported him over the years. 1997 Bentley Turbo RT Transmission: automaticMileage:59623This is a very specially equipped and unusual Bentley RT. The Bentley Turbo RT was the last of the Turbo R line and came with a 400bhp version of the 6.75 litre V8 engine. The Turbo RT was produced during 1997 and 1998 only, with 252 units produced. It was essentially a 'runout special', an effort to sell off the last SZ-style bodies before the introduction of the Arnage. Whilst all these cars were coachbuilt, the factory produced a few specially equipped Mulliner versions of the RT which featured a variety of custom options which made the Mulliner cars even more impressive. This wonderful example has been in its current ownership for over 15 years and has had just two previous owners from new. Acquired by our vendor with 32,666 recorded miles, this Bentley comes to the market with almost all the available Mulliner options such as wing vents, laser cut grille, big bore exhaust tip, picnic tables, extended wheel spacers and studs, upgraded anti-roll bars, chrome instrument bezels, chrome sports gear lever and 18€ wheels. These Mulliner options make this car really stand out when compared to other RTs. The car is equipped with a CTEK battery conditioning connection and is offered with a fitted car cover with Bentley motif.  Presented in striking Red Pearl coachwork with Sandstone leather interior which is complemented by red St. James piping and embossed headrests with lambswool over rugs and piano black interior trim. The car comes with four keys and three fobs and is fitted with twin independent electric fans in substitution of the original engine driven fan, which improves fuel efficiency tremendously. This Bentley has been maintained regardless of cost by various Bentley specialists, Balmoral, Phantom Motor Cars and Autofficina and is supplied with full toolkits, service history and original booklets, and a Parrot handsfree phone kit. After a long period of happy ownership and now with a recorded milage of 59,623, this RT is being offered for sale from a private collection, having little mileage in recent years due to the ill health of the vendor. This car has enormous road presence not only looking the part but sounding the part with a delightful V8 burble from the performance exhaust!
