CLEMENT H. STEVENS (1821 - 1864) Confederate brigadier general, who designed and constructed the battery on Morris Island used in the bombardment of Fort Sumter. He was killed in action during the Battel of Peachtree Creek. Signature on a ten-dollar banknote from South Carolina, dated March 13, 1860. At the time Stevens was living in South Carolina as a bank cashier. He signs at the bottom left, with an unknown signer at the bottom right. The left side is trimmed, and there is some staining throughout, else very good.
