A KRIEGSMARINE BAROGRAPH, CIRCA 1944the Bakelite recording drum containing clockwork motor, mounted on ebonised steel bedplate, with recording arm assembly with 7 pressure cells, hinged wooden case with steel Kriegsmarine label numbered 4606N and aluminium drop handle and securing hatches -- 11in. (28cm.) wideThis barograph was found aboard the yacht Scaldis which was moored in Amsterdam when the Nazis occupied the city. Seconding the yacht, it survived the War and was located and recovered from a German dockyard by the original owners in 1947 when this barograph was found aboard. The Bakelite components used in this instrument indicate it was a late Wartime product as the instrument makers were running out of raw materials, especially brass. Some staining and fading to wooden case, movement running well at the time of cataloguing, label clear
A MAHOGANY CASED BAROGRAPH UNSIGNED, 20TH CENTURY Of typical form, the drum mechanism recording the pressure on a chart 22cm high, 34cm wide, 22cm deep Provenance: Private Collection, Phillimore Gardens, London Condition Report: Timepiece movement driving the rotating drum is working and has a key. The instrument has been 'bag-tested' but no movement in the stylus was observed hence it is probable that the bellows no longer hold a vacuum. The gilding to the mechanism is in good original condition with minimal discolouration. The interior woodwork has some slight staining (probably ink) next to the drum; externally the case is in very good original condition. The drawer contains a good quantity of spare charts.Condition Report Disclaimer

Table Barograph, English, c.1900, unsigned, 4 bellows stack with lacquered brass linkage and mechanism to arm, drum with clockwork mechanism (running but untested for accuracy), ink bottle in glazed oak case width 36cm Provenance: bought by the vendor from the Old Swan Hotel famous for the disappearance of Agatha Christie in 1926. The disapperance sparked an 11-day nationwide manhunt. After an argument with her husband, Archie Christie, who revealed he was in love with another woman, Agatha vanished. Her abandoned car was found near Guildford, but she was nowhere to be seen, leaving only a cryptic letter. The disappearance captivated the public and even involved prominent figures like Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Eventually, she was found at The Old Swan Hotel in Harrogate, registered under the name "Mrs. Teresa Neele." Christie provided no explanation for her disappearance, though some believe she suffered from amnesia or a nervous breakdown. The incident remains one of the greatest mysteries in Christie's life, with some speculating it was a publicity stunt, while others think it was an attempt to frame her unfaithful husband.
