A RARE JAMES I WEST COUNTRY "DECORATED" SILVERGILT SEAL TOP SPOON with a large terminal, pricked "RH" between scrolls, the back of the bowl pricked "RG" above scrolls, the stem inscribed "PRAIS GOD" and the bowl engraved with a formal foliate spray, struck thrice on the back of the stem with an "RM" mark and once in the bowl with a `berry` mark*, by the Quick family, probably John Quick, Barnstaple 1610-20; 7" (17.8 cms) long; 1.5 oz *See Kent, T.A.: West Country Spoons & Their Makers pp. 122-125 where Kent discusses the Quick family, & their spoons & marks, and where he explains that the "RM" mark is Barum (Barnstaple) town mark and that the berry mark is most likely a Quick workshop mark.
