The Anthony R. East Classic Motorcycle Collection1965 BMW 590cc R60/2Registration no. KMV 65CFrame no. 626046Engine no. 626046This BMW R60/2 comes with its original old-style green logbook showing that it was supplied to Slocombe's of Neasden and first registered on 30th December 1964. The machine was registered to its first owner, a Mr Dallen of Wood Green, North London on 8th January 1965. It was then bought by a Mr Minifie of Wednesbury, Staffordshire in 1968; registered by a dealer in 1970; and then sold to a Mr Davies of Brierley Hill in July 1971. Next owner Mr Billingham of Stourbridge purchased the BMW in May 1975. Tony East purchased the machine in 1994, the V5C recording the previous keeper as a Mr Toothill of Ruislip, who had acquired it in November 1989 (the old-style V5 records six former keepers prior to Mr Toothill. Purchased by Tony in 1994 for £700 and then restored throughout, the BMW was last taxed to 31st July 2006 and currently displays a total of 3,768 miles on the odometer. Additional documentation includes a quantity of old MoTs; Bob Porecha invoices dating from 1994; a quantity of other invoices; and a Bryan Small restoration invoice totalling £3,686. 1954 Norton 497cc 'Dominator 88'Registration no. 550 BMWFrame no. J122 57883Engine no. 61269 K122Norton jumped aboard the vertical-twin bandwagon in 1948 when it introduced the Model 7. Designed by the legendary Bert Hopwood, the new 500cc engine went into the existing ES2 chassis, a marriage that necessitated a redesign of Norton's well-proven four-speed gearbox. In November 1951 Norton's 500cc twin found a new home in the racing singles' 'Featherbed' duplex frame. Initially for export only, the newcomer - titled 'Dominator 88' - was the first production Norton roadster to feature the lightweight, race-proven chassis. Updated year by year, the Dominator had received an alloy cylinder head, full-width hubs, welded rear sub-frame, alternator electrics and coil ignition by the decade's end and - for 1960 - the narrower 'slimline' Featherbed frame among countless other improvements. Motor Cycle magazine clocked 92mph on an '88' in 1957 and, needless to say, the handling and roadholding were found to be first class.Sadly, little is known of this Norton's history but it was purchased by the current vendor a couple of years ago where it has been dry stored but not started therefore will need recommissioning to a greater or lesser extent before returning to the road. Documentation offered consists of a V5C, V5, expired MoT's and invoices.Key not requiredFootnotes:All lots are sold 'as is/where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to bidding. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com
Property of Peter Ardronc.1938 BMW R12 750cc Motorcycle CombinationRegistration no. EOR 189Frame no. 11187Engine no. 36067• Imported into the UK in 1944• Ex-German Army• Present ownership since 2014• Expertly restored with no expense spared (completed 2017)This wonderful R12 motorcycle combination belongs to Peter Ardon, a well-known and highly respected enthusiast within the BMW community (Peter helped restore/commission the 1941 BMW R12 that was sold by Bonhams in 2022). Restoring these older BMWs has always been his passion and he probably has more experience of working on them than anyone else in the UK. Indeed, he founded and ran for several years an international vintage BMW club.'EOR 189' was first registered in the UK in 1944, but BMW have confirmed the October 1938 date of manufacture for the frame and its delivery as part of an R12 to the Army Ordnance Office in Munich. The engine came from another R12 delivered in September 1941 to the Luftzeugamt Küpper (Luftzeugamt = civilian Air Office). BMW's dating letter is on file. It is quite likely that the R12 was a war trophy brought back by a British officer during WW2. The BMW has had six previous owners, the last of whom owned it for over 50 years. He confirmed he had not painted the machine and did not believe it had been repainted since importation. It was covered in a thick, oil based black paint. The story passed down with the machine is that the importer painted over the German Army colours with household black to make it less objectionable in wartime Britain. The original Army colour was still visible underneath the black but was beyond restoration. Peter decided that as the bike had been painted black since (probably) 1944, then restoring it in civilian colours better reflected its history than a return to German Army Grey. Dream Machine of Nottingham were entrusted with most of the repaint. Peter bought this R12 nine years ago and restored it with no expense spared purely for his own use. It has had everything done that it could possibly need, including sending the frame to RRC Tuning in Germany, R12 specialists and the only company in Europe with the experience and tooling necessary to straighten it to as-new tolerances. RRC were also entrusted with the electrical rebuilds, etc and they and Mark Huggett supplied most of the spares. None of the cheap, poorer-quality spares which are available from Poland and elsewhere have been used. One minor gearbox component (which does not in any way affect reliability or how it runs) was not available during the rebuild but comes with the bike should the next owner wish to fit it. Only Peter's ill health has prevented it from fitting it himself. No expense was spared in the rebuild, and Peter says that the machine runs even better than it looks. Purists will spot some reproduction parts but these are all minor, and it is doubtful there is a more practical R12 in the country. The sidecar is brand new and is a quality reproduction of an original Steib. With practicality and stopping-power in mind, Peter has fitted a brake (easily removed) to the sidecar. Poor health has meant that Peter has been unable to use the BMW as intended (he has only managed some 3,500 kilometres) and that is the only reason he is selling it now. The R12 last ran in August 2023. Accompanying documentation consists of Peter's purchase receipt; a photocopy of an old-style continuation logbook (issued 1952); a current V5C Registration Certificate; and numerous receipts for new spares.Footnotes:All lots are sold 'as is/where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to bidding. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com
1938 BMW 494cc R51Registration no. EOB 432Frame no. 505238Engine no. 501136 (see text)• Advanced BMW Model for 1936• Present family ownership since 2009In 1936 BMW announced their advanced new R5 model featuring hydraulically damped telescopic forks, a welded tubular frame, coil ignition, overhead valves, hairpin valve springs with rocker boxes of a new shape, and for the first time on a BMW, a positive stop foot operated gearchange. For 1938 the R5 was upgraded by the addition of plunger rear suspension and became the R51. This was not an inexpensive motorcycle: in 1938 it sold for £123 at a time when Triumph's Speed Twin could be bought for under £77.The vendor purchased this lovely R51 in 2009 from John Lawes of BEMW in Derby. Since acquisition it has been stored in a dehumidified garage and has seen little use other than on local runs and vintage rallies. It was last started in July this year when it fired up on the third kick after standing for some years. According to the vendor it 'starts and runs nicely', and 'there are no known faults'. During the current ownership both wheels have been rebuilt and new tyres fitted, a pair of new old stock carburettors have been sourced and fitted, and the mudguards have been professionally resprayed. It should be noted that the engine currently fitted is believed to be from a BMW R5 of the previous year.Prospective bidders should satisfy themselves as to the motorcycle's completeness and mechanical condition prior to bidding. It is sold strictly as viewed. Three keys are supplied, two of the old bakelite type, and one pressed steel spare.Footnotes:All lots are sold 'as is/where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to bidding. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com
1998 Bimota 652c BB1 SupermonoRegistration no. P844 HWLFrame no. BB1*00065Engine no. 391657 65 1V A'The Supermono was...the first Bimota to be equipped with a single-cylinder power plant. In this case, the BMW/Rotax 650. A single cylinder sport bike was appreciated in Germany and Japan, less so elsewhere. The decision to put Supermono into production, then, was a daring one.' Bimota, 25 Years of Excellence; Giorgio Sarti (Giorgio Nada Editori, 1999).Bimota SpA, the Rimini-based bespoke motorcycle manufacturer, built the first series of Supermono 650s, (376 in total) from 1995 through 1997. The oval section aluminum tube chassis was similar in style to that of Mantra, another 'daring design', the suspension came from Paioli, the brakes from Brembo (a single front disc) and lots of details in carbon fiber. Interestingly, the fuel tank was mounted underneath the engine and the catalogue offered several factory-sourced enhancement kits, labelled: steering, fuel injection, suspension, body shell, and racing. Purchased by the current vendor in 2022, the V5C states 'Declared new in GB by independent importer' and the machine has clearly led a rather pampered life, reflected in its lovely condition. Last MoT'd in June 2022 (10,857km), the odometer presently displays 10,880 km and is offered with Gov.UK MOT history dating back to 2008 (8,062 km). The vendor advises us that the machine ran well prior to the recent MOT expiry (June 2023) and other than charging the battery, the machine has required little else in his ownership. Nevertheless, recommissioning and the usual safety checks are advised prior to returning to the road.Footnotes:All lots are sold 'as is/where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to bidding. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com

Registration - T986 RPHChassis No - WBABK82030ET81955M.O.T. - July 2024Odometer - 86,353 The format of a four-seat convertible has much appeal, yet the choice of such cars is surprising narrow, among which the E36 BMW has much to commend itself; especially when powered by the 2.8-litre version of BMW super-smooth straight-six engine. The tidy example on offer is finished in the appealing colour of Bostongrün metallic that’s complemented by black half-leather interior trim. It has had just four keepers from new, who’ve amassed a relatively modest total mileage of 86,397 between them. The most recent custodian has owned the car for the last eight years and currently classes the engine and automatic gearbox as ‘excellent’, and the bodywork, paintwork and upholstery as ‘good’. He is now offering the convertible at No Reserve, and complete with M-Tech side skirts, new battery and alternator, its complete set of tools, book pack including the service record stamped to 86,248 miles (ie just 149 miles ago), plus a current MOT valid to July 20 next year. The third generation of BMW’s all-conquering 3 Series model (code name E36) was launched to much acclaim in October 1990. It was penned by Pinky Lai and Boyke Boyer who, as its silhouette suggests, were intent on optimising the newcomer’s aerodynamics. The model was ultimately produced in saloon, hatchback, coupe, convertible and estate guises, and with a choice of engines ranging from 1.6 to 3.2 litres. The 2.8-litre option available from 1994 to 1999 was a punchy straight-six unit of 193bhp and 207 lb ft of torque – sufficient output to propel the BMW to 60mph in around seven seconds flat and on a to a top speed just shy of 150mph. The E36 range was supplanted by the E46 in the year 2000 In summary:Just four keepers and 86,397 miles from newComes with full service history and current MOTBeing sold at No Reserve
Registration - OKC10FChassis - 1225247M.O.T. - ExemptOdometer - 28,040 ‘OKC 10F’ is a fine, right-hand-drive example of a rare model - some 119,767 BMW 2000s were produced, but www.howmanyleft.co.uk estimates that there are now just 41 licensed in the UK, with a further 36 on SORN. The bill of sale for the example on offer shows that it cost £1,900 when purchased new from a BMW dealer in Liverpool in March 1968. It was then garaged for some years after the original owner fell ill before being restored by the second one, and then passing into long-term family ownership before eventually being acquired by the current keeper. He informs us that the two-tone burgundy and black faux leather interior trim is in ‘excellent’ condition, while all the mechanical parts have been overhauled, replaced or serviced by specialist BMW restorers – this includes the automatic gearbox, which has been rebuilt. He adds that the body and (original) silver paintwork are ‘showing signs of age but are still respectable’, while the BMW’s MOT history appears to support its notably low indicated mileage of 28,041. The 2000 was one of BMW’s ‘Neue Klasse’ (‘new class’) models, which are credited with reversing the marque’s fortunes between 1962 and 1972. The first of this line, the BMW 1500, was introduced in 1961 and went on sale the following year. The all-new car had an equally new engine – a combination BMW had not produced since 1933, when it did so with the 303. As well as the four-cylinder overhead camshaft M115 engine, the 1500 boasted independent suspension all-round with MacPherson struts up front – a first for BMW. The model also introduced the era of the ‘Sharknose’ BMW and was an immediate hit, with the company breaking even in its first year of production, after years of operating losses. The following year, a 47 percent increase in sales allowed BMW to pay shareholder dividends for the first time in two decades. Launched in 1965, the larger-engined 2000 was heralded by Autocar as ‘the best BMW yet’. In summary:A rare, little-used example of one of BMW’s ‘Neue Klasse’ carsMOTs apparently support the indicated mileage of 28,041A comprehensive mechanical overhaul included a gearbox rebuild
Registration - HX06 PAOChassis No - WBSBT92070LD39141M.O.T - September 2024Odometer - 46,500This very smartly-presented performance BMW has had just two keepers to date, who’ve amassed a modest warranted 46,500 miles between them. It is finished in the pleasing combination of Interlagos Blue bodywork, black hood and black Nappa leather interior trim, and rides on Michelin shod, recently refurbished period-correct alloy wheels. The vendor informs us that the roadster has been ‘fastidiously maintained regardless of cost’, and presently regards the straight-six engine, six-speed manual transmission and convertible bodywork as all being in ‘excellent’ order, and the paintwork and upholstery as ‘good’. This lovely all-weather two-seater will apparently be the subject of a main dealer service and MOT prior to the sale, and will then be available to purchase complete with indoor and outdoor covers, full main dealer service history, the original owner’s book pack, and an assortment of paperwork. The first generation Z4 was penned by BMW’s Danish in-house designer Anders Warming and in production from mid-2002 to the end of 2008. As with its predecessor, the Z3, it was made available in roadster and coupe guises powered by engines ranging from 2.0 to 3.2 litres. It also echoed the Z3 in being solely manufactured in BMW’s Spartanburg plant in Greer, South Carolina. Being BMW, there was, of course bound to be an M version sooner or later, and this became available during 2006. The chosen powerplant was the S54 straight-six unit already found in the E46 M3, the output of which was a pretty handy 343bhp – sufficient in fact to propel the sporty newcomer from rest to 60mph in around 4.8 seconds. Other features that distinguished the Z4M from the standard offering included: a wider front track, revised front suspension and wider non-runflat tyres all-round; not to mention the uprated steering, brakes and rear axle also sourced from the M3 parts bin. In summary:A two-owner, 46,500-mile example with full service historyWill come freshly serviced and with 12 months’ MOT‘Fastidiously maintained regardless of cost’
Registration - M3 EOVChassis No - WBSBG92000EA89525M.O.T - July 2024Odometer - 109,000 This very tidy Evo certainly looks the part, its Estoril metallic paintwork contrasting nicely with the grey Alcantara interior trim and shiny BMW Motorsport alloy wheels. It has had a total of just seven keepers to date, the most recent of whom has retained the car since July 2017. It was apparently serviced last month, and other recent maintenance has included: refurbishment of the engine’s VANOS system; replacement of the cam cover gasket; the installation of a new Milltek exhaust system; new front brake discs and pads and fresh rear calipers and pads; refurbishment of the Fulda-shod wheels. The vendor presently grades the six-speed manual transmission as ‘excellent’, the six-cylinder engine, two-door bodywork and upholstery as ‘good’, and the paintwork as ‘average’. He is now offering the BMW complete with: engine strut brace; sunroof, Sony CD player and 10-stack autochanger; spare wheel and tyre; full tool kit; first aid kit; and a pair of A4 folders covering the car’s history, plus a current MOT valid into July of next year. The odometer presently registers c.109,000 miles The third generation of BMW’s all-conquering 3 Series model (code name E36) was launched to much acclaim in October 1990. The model was ultimately produced in saloon, hatchback, coupe, convertible and estate guises, and with a choice of engines ranging from 1.6 to 3.2 litres. The M3 variant was offered from 1992 to 1999, the desirable Evolution development of which was launched at the 1995 Frankfurt Salon and featured a larger 3.2-litre engine of advanced specification, that was coupled to a six-speed Getrag gearbox. The E36 range was supplanted by the E46 in the year 2000. Registration - J767 WFFChassis No. - WBAEG22040CB57622M.O.T. - November 2023Odometer - 83,344The resplendent Brilliant Red bodywork of this very original-looking 850i is matched to grey leather interior trim and period-correct BBS alloy wheels shod with Dunlop Sport tyres all round. The vendor is a BMW enthusiast and BMW Club member in whose care ‘J767 WFF’ has been for the last 24 years. He informs us that on his watch it has always been garaged, regularly serviced by BMW dealers and treated to regular visits to car shows etc. He regards the condition of the interior to be ‘outstanding, with carpets that look as-new’, and presently grades the V12 engine and automatic transmission as ‘excellent’, the paintwork as ‘good’ and the coupe bodywork as ‘average to good’. He is now offering the five-owner BMW complete with factory-fitted sunroof and audio system (including boot-mounted CD autochanger), full set of tools, spare wheel/tyre, service records, selection of invoices, book on the 850i model and a current MOT valid into November. The odometer currently stands a totally credible 83,344 miles. A relatively rare sight on British roads, the Klaus Kapitza-penned 8 Series BMW (chassis code E31) was introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show of 1989. Though it effectively supplanted the venerable 6 Series (E24), it was in fact conceived as an additional model line and, with more performance and a higher price tag, was aimed further upmarket. During its 10-year reign, the four-seat 8 Series was available in 830i, 840i and 850i form, though by far the biggest seller was the 4,988cc, 296bhp 850i that was manufactured from 1989-94, of which over 20,000 were produced. The V12 engine was mated to either a 6-speed manual gearbox or 4-speed automatic unit. The fully independent suspension featured struts at the front and coil springs on the rear. Steering was by ball and nut and braking was by discs all round – vented at the front; solid at the rear. Despite a considerable unladen weight of 1790kg, the performance of the 850i was brisk, with the top speed electronically limited to 155mph and the 0-62mph dash accomplished in 6.8 seconds. In summary:A very well presented example with ‘outstanding’ interiorHas remained in the current ownership for the last 24 yearsJust five owners and an indicated 83,344 miles from new
Registration - M227 TUKChassis No - WBAEF62030CB97278M.O.T. - December 2023Odometer - 113,107It’s taken a long time for enthusiasts to fully appreciate the many virtues of the distinctive BMW 8 Series, examples of which are arguably tremendous value in today’s market. ‘M227 TUK’ is a relatively early 840Ci example, so powered by BMW’s 4.0-litre M60 V8 powerplant that delivered a healthy 282bhp and 295 lb ft of torque. It drives through the optional five-speed automatic gearbox. Its Brilliant Red paintwork contrasts well with the grey leather interior trim and period-correct BBS alloy wheels. The coupe has had just five keepers to date, the most recent of whom assumed possession in 2014. He currently grades the engine and gearbox as ‘excellent’, the bodywork and upholstery as ‘good’, and the paintwork as ‘average’, and is now offering the car at No Reserve complete with: factory-fitted sunroof and radio/cassette player, six-stack CD multi-changer, book pack that includes a replacement service book stamped up to 97,349 miles, a sizeable folder of invoices and receipts, plus a current MOT valid to December 21. The odometer currently indicates a total of 113,107 miles. During its 10-year reign, the (E31) 8 Series was offered in 830i, 840Ci and 850i/Ci form, of which the 840Ci was the second most popular variant. When introduced in mid-1993, it was fitted with a 4-litre V8 engine mated to either a 5-speed automatic or a six-speed manual transmission. The fully independent suspension featured struts at the front and coil springs on the rear. Steering was by ball and nut and braking by discs all round. Over 1.5 billion Deutschmarks is said to have been spent on the car’s design and development, which included the use of CAD tools (still quite rare at the time) and wind tunnel testing, the combined effect of which was a very competitive drag coefficient of 0.29. Though electronically limited to 155mph, this endowed the more powerful 8 Series models with a potential top speed of almost 190mph. Total sales of the range were some 30,600, the model’s potential being somewhat limited by the recession of the time. In summary:A five keeper example currently indicating 113,107 total milesService record up to 97,349 and current MOT valid into DecemberBeing sold at No Reserve
Registration - F313 FCCChassis - WBABB12030EB95133M.O.T. - May 2024Odometer - 103,000 miles This smartly-presented E30 manual transmission convertible matches Alpine White bodywork to a blue hood and grey check cloth interior trim, and rides on period-correct BBS alloy wheels shod with quality Goodyear tyres. It has had just three owners to date, the most recent of whom purchased it from a garage in Llandudno in January 2000, while the previous keeper retained the BMW for eight years. We understand that a new BMW exhaust system was fitted a few years ago and that a fresh cambelt was installed during lockdown, since when relatively few miles have been travelled. The vendor presently considers all major aspects of the convertible to be in ‘good’ order and describes it as a ‘nice driver’s car that starts and runs very reliably and has always been dry stored during his tenure’. He is now offering it complete with a factory-fitted Blaupunkt stereo and CD autochanger and a large history file containing his purchase bill, lots of other invoices and service history (including some main dealer stamps), and pretty much every past MOT, plus a current one valid to May 23 next year. The phenomenal success of BMW’s 3 Series shows little sign of waning, with the car now in its seventh generation and still the standard by which all rivals are judged. This remarkable story began in 1975, when the E21 was launched as a replacement for the 2002. Available in two-door saloon and convertible (by Baur), it could initially only be bought with 1.6, 1.8 and 2-litre versions of the company’s four-cylinder M10 engine, but six-cylinder ones soon followed. Having changed the saloon market forever, the inaugural model bowed out in 1982 to be replaced by the E30. More evolution than revolution, the newcomer raised the bar still higher and dominated its sector for the next 10 years. The model line-up grew to include four-door saloon and estate (Touring in BMW parlance) versions and the convertible was now an in-house affair. Aside of the M3, the optimum engine package was found in the 325i – a smooth and lusty 2.5-litre unit of 168bhp and 164 lb ft of torque. In summary:A smart three-owner example currently displaying 103,011 milesComes complete with large history file and an MOT to May 2024Recently equipped with a new exhaust and cambelt
