Botanical interest. Lambert after Pierre Jean Francois Turpin - a series of four early 19th century hand coloured engravings. Believed from 1830 La Flore medicale by Chaumeton, Poiret and Chamberet. Each finely hand coloured, with all lettering & border gilt. Comprising Menthe Poivree, Menthe Crispee, Chou and Rosage. Smart & bright condition, lightest edge wear, no spotting, just faint age-toning to the edges of the leaves. Unframed. The illustrations measuring approx. 17.5cm x 12cm, 45cm x 30cm including plate.

"The plates were printed in muliti-coloured lithography at The Curwen Press Limited of London who also composed the type in Monotype Walbaum. The colour plates have been printed on a matt coated cartridge made by Bowaters at Sittingbourne, Kent, and the text on Arma all-rag paper made by E. Towgood & Sons, Limited, at Sawston, Cambridge" (from the limitation leaf). Both the publisher's note and Wilfrid Blunt's Introduction draw comparisons between the present work and that masterpiece of early 19th-century botanical books, The Temple of Flora.

A Meissen Marcolini period coffee can and saucer, decorated with cherubs and clouds on white ground with insects and floral sprigs, blue crossed sword and star mark to base, height 5cm, together with a collection of Meissen tea wares including saucer with Watteau scene and acid yellow border, a similar demi-tasse coffee cup and saucer decorated with figures within pink panelled borders, a leaf moulded tea cup and saucer, decorated with pink glazed relief moulded fruiting vines with gilt highlights, another tea cup and saucer, painted floral studies over white ground with basketweave moulded border, and three saucers, painted with botanical studies over white glazed ground. ° ° Willmott, Ellen - The Genus Rosa, drawings by Alfred Parsons, 2 vols in 25 original parts, with 125 (70 and 55) only, of 132 chromolithograph plates, tissue guards, numerous uncoloured plates and illustrations to text, in original printed wrappers, all contained together in two original publisher’s green portfolios, with ties, John Murray, London 1910-1914. Note: Ellen Willmott (1858-1934) was a distinguished horticulturist who played a significant role in the Royal Horticultural Society. She was one of the first two women admitted to the Linnaean Society and the first to receive the Victoria Medal of Honour for British horticulturists in 1897. Her garden boasted over 100,000 plants, and she sponsored botanical expeditions to places like China and the Middle East. At her home, Warley Place in Essex, she employed at least eighty-five gardeners, and more than sixty plants were named after her or her home. Throughout her life, she was involved in numerous professional horticultural projects and authored two books, Warley Garden in Spring and The Genus Rosa. Despite the limited success of The Genus Rosa, which initially sold only 260 copies and left her in debt, she remained dedicated to her work until her death.
