•Frank Dickens (British, 1931-2016), "The water's off!", pen and ink cartoon, signed Dickens, 6in x 9½in (15.25cm x 24cm), overmounted and framed. Caption by Roy Garner reads: Picture this scene....a very hot summer's day, a visitation to our street by the Water Board. The street was looking like a weird moon-scape with its array of deep craters, as the workmen replaced our aging main's supply. My youngest daughter (aged about nine at the time) came skipping up the street, clutching a bottle of pop. She stopped at the crater outside our house, and peered down into the hole at the workman below ground level. 'Would you like a cup of tea?' she asked. The workman looked up hopefully, leaning on his shovel, as he wiped the sweat from his brow. With a great sigh, he replied, 'Aw, I'd luv a cup!'. 'Tough!' my daughter replied with a really impish smile. 'The water's off!'
