Boxing Paddy De Marco (Billy Goat) 10x8 signed b/w photo. DeMarco was a battler who improved with age and experience; His most famous bouts are the contests against Joseph Sandy Saddler and Jimmy Carter; Paddy won the Lightweight Championship of the World during his career. He defeated such men as Jimmy Carter, Sandy Saddler, Kenny Lane, Billy Graham, Orlando Zulueta, Teddy Red Top Davis, Eddie Chavez, Enrique Bolanos, Eddie Giosa, Johnny Gonsalves, Carlos Chavez, Armand Savoie, Ralph Dupas, Jackie Blair, Arthur King and Henry Davis. Good condition Est.
SPORTING GREATS: A good printed 8vo menu for a Night of Nights featuring Muhammad Ali as the special guest of honour, organised by A. Wander Ltd. at the Royal Lancaster, 14th October 1971, individually signed to the front cover by various sporting greats comprising Muhammad Ali (World Heavyweight Boxing Champion), Bobby Moore (World Cup winning football captain), Graham Hill (World Champion Formula One Motor Racing Driver) and Henry Cooper (British, Commonwealth and European Heavyweight Boxing Champion who fought Ali twice, once in an unsuccessful challenge for the World Heavyweight Championship, 1966), and also signed by Stanley Baker (Welsh Actor). Further signed to the verso by sports commentator Harry Carpenter, footballer Dave Sexton, heavyweight boxer Alonzo Johnson (who had lost to Ali, when Cassius Clay, in 1961) and radio and television presenter Pete Murray individually. All have signed in blue inks to clear areas, most with their names alone. Together with a T.L.S. by a secretary on behalf of P. Myers of the travel agents A V Iagents Ltd., one page, 4to, London, 15th October 1971, to Mr. D. R. Cresswell, forwarding him the signed menu and commenting 'It was a most entertaining evening with excellent food and I greatly enjoyed it. It is a great pity you had to miss it'. Accompanied by the original envelope. An unusual and impressive selection of signatures by various World Champions and other sporting greats and personalities to find on one item. Some very minor creasing and a few light stains, none of which significantly affect the signatures, otherwise VG

Signed colour 8 x 10 photograph of Duran standing in a three quarter length boxing pose wearing one of his Championship belts. Signed in bold blue ink with his name alone to a light area of the background. Together with Rubin Carter (1937-2014) American-Canadian Middleweight Boxer, wrongly convicted of murder. Signed 10 x 8 photograph of Carter in a full length boxing action pose during a bout against an opponent. ALI & SPINKS: ALI MUHAMMAD (1942-2016) American Boxer, World Heavyweight Champion & SPINKS LEON (1953- ) American Boxer, World Heavyweight Champion. Signed colour 10 x 8 photograph by both Muhammad Ali and Leon Spinks individually, the image depicting the two boxers trading punches in a boxing ring during one of their bouts in 1978. Signed by Ali in bold blue ink and by Spinks in bold silver ink, each with their names alone to the image. A printed label neatly affixed to the verso indicates that the photograph was signed at a private signing session in the 1990s. VG

The History of British Boxing, 3 volumes, published John Grant, Edinburgh, 1906, additional half title, numerous uncoloured plates and illustrations, later ownership stamp to front endpaper, some old adhesion scarring to front pastedowns, slight spotting to front and rear of each volume, top edge gilt, fore-edge uncut, publisher's decorative brown gilt cloth, very slight wear to extremities, 8vo, together with Henning (Fred), Fights for the Championship. The men and their times, 2 volumes, published Licensed Victuallers Gazette, circa 1900, additional half title, volume one lacking front endpaper, numerous illustrations throughout, hinges cracked, contemporary red cloth, spines faded, worn at extremities, 8vo, with other volumes similar relating to boxing and prize fighting, plus an aquatint portrait by W. M. Fellows of Thomas Cribb and an etching of two prize fighters (Gregson & Gully), both framed and glazed, with other reproduction prints of juvenile boxing, plus a set of Jane Austin novels published by the 'Folio society' (1 carton)
