Sir Henry Cooper signed 1980 Benham official Amateur boxing association sport FDC. English heavyweight boxer. Cooper held the British, Commonwealth, and European heavyweight titles several times throughout his career, and unsuccessfully challenged Muhammad Ali for the world heavyweight championship in 1966. A Victorian brass desk set comprising blotter, pen stand and inkwell with central hobnail cut glass base to well with ropework and Scottish hard stone or agate, decoration, the blotter inscribed "From Caroline Marchioness of Queensberry", (wife of Marquis of Queensberry of Boxing Rules fame and mother of lover of Oscar Wilde) (Provenance: possibly a wedding present to the owners grandmother and father who were Sergeant Sullivan, eminent KC who married Helen Keely, the Irish American who made money in shipping after the American Civil War)
1924 Wembley, Boxing, a very rare programme from the first ever Boxing event held at Wembley Stadium, Tom Gibbons (USA) v Jack Bloomfield (England), a great international heavyweight contest held on 09/08/1924. The attendance for this event was so disappointedly poor that Gibbons refused to go in the ring until 'he had seen the colour of the cash', hence this programme is a rarity
