A late 17th century brass mounted 1lb stone weight recovered in 1843 from the wreck of HMS Edgar 1668 with an accompanying 19th century inscription on paper possibly written by Sir Charles Gage Brown having received the weight by descent from his father Commander Charles Brown R.N. presented directly by Major General Charles William Pasley R.E. inscribed 'Blown up and sunk at Spithead 1711, this 1lb weight recovered from the wreck 1844 now weighs but little more than 1/2lb.'.
