An early 20th century Bretby pottery jardiniere on stand, with Clanta design decoration and maroon ground with incised and moulded Art Nouveau motif decoration, stamped Bretby England. Height 84 cm, width 28 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The structure of this is not in good condition. There is a significant crack to the base that runs vertically and is 10 cm long. This is visible both to the underside and the top of the base of the plinth. There is also a crack to the bowl that runs from the wavy rim down the side +/- 3 cm long. There is no other structural damage visible. Plenty of areas of wear, dirt and loss of decoration including areas of small wear and losses to the rims of the pedestal and bowl.

Crazing throughout and some abrasions to the glaze, particularly around the handles.

A MIXED GROUP OF CERAMICS including a silver-mounted Moorcroft 'Pomegranate' pattern tobacco jar; Doulton Lambeth stoneware 'Autumn Leaves' jardinière; pair of Bretby art pottery vases; etc. (5)Cover missing from the Moorcroft tobacco jar. Jardinière has several flea bites/ chips to the glaze around the rim. Three large chips to the rim of one of the Bretby vases. Measurements Moorcroft 11.5cm high, 12.5cm wide, Bretby pair 27cm high, 12cm wide, Doulton Lambeth 21.2cm high, 25cm wide, red vase 8.2cm high, 9cm wide. All width measurements are taken from the items widest point.
Bretby, an Art Pottery earthenware garden seat, model 918, red running glaze of green, modelled with shells and crustaceans, stamped marks, 34cm.Condition report:Old restorations around the entire top rim. It is evident on the top as it has formed almost a tide line in darker tone, but it extends down the top of the body also. It would appear there was a crack running from the rim to almost centre of the top (visible on the image running under our lot label). There is another large area to the base line that appears re-painted/ restored, presumably what ws once a sizeable chip. One of the shell tips has also been restored, and the second shell has a chip almost to the underside of it so not that obvious but it is there. The centre of the top is quite obviously scratched also.
