TUCK ROBERT STANFORD: (1916-1987) British Wing Commander, fighter pilot, flying ace and test pilot who participated in the Battle of Britain during World War II. Selection of signed printed images of various sizes (9 x 7.5 and smaller), evidently neatly removed from books or magazines, the different images depicting Tuck in various uniform poses etc. (some signed by other individuals comprising Harry Broadhurst, Alan Deere, James Leathart, Douglas Grice, Alfred Whitby, Donald W. A. Stones, and Mike Crossley) and three others being images of paintings showing Tuck in aerial combat (one with a water stained signature, although also signed by Adolf Galland). Together with Mike Crossley (1912-1987) British Squadron Leader who participated in the Battle of Britain during World War II. T.L.S., Mike Crossley, one page, 4to, White River, East Transvaal, 14th July 1987, to Mr. Terry. Crossley thanks his correspondent for their letter and continues to refer to ´my old friend Bob Tuck´ and other pilots, in part, ´Yes, I try and keep in touch as much as possible with my old squadron friends....Hunph Russell, who was one of my oldest friends - we both joined 32 Squadron in 1936 - died in 1983 after a bad stomach operation of some sort. Sad loss indeed. He had played hockey for the R.A.F. and got shot down in the B. of B, but survived to go on flying till the end of the battle, and later took over 32 Squadron. Pete Gardner was another very old friend, who joined 32 pre-war. He survived, and being of a restless turn of mind, went off and started, and ran, a very swish restaurant in Nassau in the Bahamas....Eckford and Smythe I have completely lost touch with, but I did see Eckford at a B of B reunion some years ago....J. E. "Hector" Proctor, another restless soul, started his flying career as a Sergeant Pilot in 32, and flew as my Number 2 always.
