VOLTAIRE: (1694-1778) French Enlightenment Writer and Philosopher. Voltaire is a pseudonym, his name being François-Marie Arouet. Voltaire is known for his attacks on Catholic Church, and his advocacy of freedom of religion and expression, and separation of church and state. Rare A.L., one page, 8vo, n.p., 17th January 1753, to Johann Heinrich Samuel Formey, in French. Voltaire, openly expresses his opinion to his correspondent, explaining and reproaching to him his written attack against deists, stating `...où diable prenez-vous cette jérémiade? I tell you that you have spoken of Louis XIV in an unsuitable manner, and that you are wrong, as I told the King that he was wrong to make a pamphlet, and I was wrong to make another; and I tell you this between us... Who thinks of hurting you? It is not me. You have written against the deists, who have never done you any harm; and the King and I, who are deists, have taken the side of our religion.") Encore une fois, soyez tranquille´ (Translation: "I tell you once again that you can only laugh at all this. You only see things through the hole of a bottle. Do not be upset and do not cry because Madame de Montespan was kind. Once again, be calm") Johann Heinrich Samuel Formey (1711-1797) German Churchman, Educator and Author. He was the son of an immigrant French family, and for this reason he taught, and wrote in French. He popularized scientific and philosophical ideas, and also contributed to Diderot´s Encyclopedie. Marquise of Montespan (1640-1707) Françoise-Athénaïs de Rochechouart de Mortemart, commonly known as Madame de Montespan. French noblewoman and the most famous Royal mistress of King Louis XIV. During their romantic relationship, which lasted ten years, she was sometimes referred to as the "true Queen of France" due to her influence at court. She was a lady-in-waiting to Queen Maria Theresa. Noted for her great beauty, she carefully cultivated a relationship with Louis XIV and supplanted the King´s former favourite. Madame de Montespan had seven children by the king, six of which survived infancy and were later legitimised. She is an ancestress of several royal houses in Europe, including those of Spain, Italy, Belgium, and many more.

1934 Riley 9hp Lincock                               Registration Number: BKE 840 Chassis Number: 6025825 Recorded Mileage: c.100,000 miles - FItted with Special Series Engine - Very original example, nominal mileage in recent years Amongst the world's best smaller sporting cars, Riley’s outstanding twin-camshaft four powered various models from 1926 to the late 1950s. Launched in 1932, the stylish Lincock was a handsome new 2-seater fixed head coupe, using the underslung chassis to produce a sleek and low design.  Described in the Riley brochure as ‘An intimate car for two - speedy, luxuriously equipped and roomy. It is light to handle and its exceptionally low build ensures safety in all conditions’, the Lincock sold well on the nine chassis, with around 300 examples produced in 2 years.  An original and honest example, this genuine Lincock is fitted with the Special Series engine featuring twin SU carburettors and a sportier camshaft, which has more recently been paired with a free breathing four-branch exhaust manifold. The Lincock is finished in beige with black wings, complemented by a bottle green leather interior and fitted still with the correct Riley 9 engine and crash gearbox. The car’s frame appears to be solid, with no play evident in the doors. The Riley has covered a tad over 100,000 miles in its 90 years, with only around 6,000 miles in the last 40 years.  We understand the Lincock starts and drives well, steering and stopping as a Riley Nine should, with good oil pressure and a brisk turn of speed. This stylish coupe benefits additionally from a folding back sunshine roof for sunny days. A great first preservation class pre-war car or alternative to the more commonplace Austin’s or Morris’s of the period.

The Ford Racing Puma was introduced in 1997, as a high-performance version of the popular Puma coupé, designed by Ford's Special Vehicle Engineering team. This compact sports car is renowned for its agile handling, spirited performance, and striking design elements, making it an instant classic among enthusiasts. Powered by a 1.7-litre inline-four engine, the Racing Puma delivers around 153bhp, boasting a sporty 0-60 mph time of approximately 7.2 seconds. The car features a lightweight chassis, sport-tuned suspension, and distinct styling cues that set it apart from its standard counterpart, including a unique wide bodykit. Here we have an absolutely stunning example of the Ford Racing Puma, with a remarkable provenance that sets it apart from the rest. This particular vehicle was initially owned by a Ford director for its first two years, then in April 2002, the car transitioned to a Mr Kissionerghis in Colchester, who would keep the car for 14 years during in which the covered less than 20,000 miles, with 14 service stamps to show for it during his tenure. Following this meticulous care, which included storing the car dry since 2013, it was sold in 2016 to a dedicated Ford collector after receiving a comprehensive service, including a cambelt and water pump replacement. The current owner acquired the vehicle in 2019 at 36,228 miles, and it has since only accrued an additional 186 miles, remaining in excellent condition as part of an impressive and varied collection, always pampered and stored in a bubble. We are advised the car will be presented for a fresh MoT and an oil service prior to the auction, ensuring it's ready to be enjoyed right away. Additional highlights include a spare new steering wheel, an original Ford brochure, a numbered Tickford owner’s guide supplement, a square meter piece of the coveted blue Alcantara cloth, and a complete book pack housed in the original Ford wallet. Lot 240

Like the Triumph 2000 it was developed from, the Triumph Stag it was styled by Italian maestro Giovanni Michelotti and featured the monocoque construction, independent suspension, disc/drum brakes, power-assisted rack and the pinion steering and driveline of that saloon. All Stags were four-seater convertible coupés but for structural rigidity and to meet new American rollover standards at the time, the Stag required a B-pillar 'roll bar' hoop connected to the windscreen frame by a T-bar. The power plant though, was an all-new OHC, V8 of 3000cc capacity fed by a pair of Stromberg carburettors and the newcomer received a warm reception at the time of launch in 1970, although longevity of the engine proved to be a problem. Most Stags were fitted with a Borg Warner automatic gearbox together with electric windows, power steering and power-assisted brakes fitted as standard. Very desirable, the Stag is well supported through various clubs and specialist suppliers. This wonderful privately owned example was first registered on 23rd June 1976, presented in Tahiti Blue with black interior which reflects the very low mileage for this example with very good woodwork and manual gearbox. Boasting the original hardtop in very good condition with a very good soft top, the car has had just six owners in 49 years including our motoring enthusiast owner since 2018. In recent years the car has been very well looked after and maintained and upon inspection the V8 fired up on first turn of the key. The history file includes history back to 1976 including original Triumph passport to service book and Brochure coupled to numerous MoT certificates and invoices. If you are looking for a very good Stag , look no further, sensibly priced and in very good order with an MoT certificate until June 2025 ready to enjoy.
