WBABF32090JB01683Odometer reading: 47,000MOT: September 2021 *Desirable E36 Coupé*Low mileage*Manual gearbox*Alpina front spoiler from newFootnotes:The E36 BMW 3 Series is one of the most sought-after generations of the company's famous 3 Series model. It's styling is arguably BMW at its best with its angular front end, and it still looks incredibly timeless to this day. This 1993 325i example is presented in very good condition and has a very low mileage of just 47,000 miles from new. It is equipped with the desirable high revving 2.5-litre straight-six M20 engine which is said to be running and driving very well. The car has also been well maintained over its lifetime and has a good service history to match. A new instrument binnacle was fitted in 2004 (after a failed odometer) at 37,000 miles, and it's newer unit now reads 10,100 miles which verifies its mileage. Overall the car is in good condition and comes with a BMW supplied from new Alpina front spoiler, factory sunroof, M sport pack and grey leather interior. Its original first aid kit, warning triangle and tool set are still present in addition to a good history file including an original BMW sales brochure, book pack and many expired MOTs and service invoices.Vendor Score Total: 76/100Bidders should note that the automated 100-point Seller's Assessment is provided by each Seller at the point of consignment using the guidelines below, and is not provided, assessed or verified by Bonhams MPH. It was recommissioned in 2018 although used very little thereafter. Last serviced on 30th April 2021, this Trophy 4 has a substantial service history and is supplied with the original purchase invoice, together with a sales brochure. These grand tourer bikes, built by one of Britains most revered manufacturers are the epitome of hedonistic pleasure.Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale. 1962 Jaguar E-Type Series I Fixedhead Coupé (3.8 litre) Transmission: manualMileage:645232021 marks the 60th anniversary of the iconic Jaguar E-Type. Launched at the Geneva Motor Show in 1961 the car was nothing short of a revelation. The visionary design from Malcolm Sayer was based on Jaguar’s Le Mans winning D-Type racing car and combined beauty, high performance, and competitive pricing. This new model featured disc brakes, rack and pinion steering and independent front and rear suspension. The overall package created one of the most famous cars of all time and spurred industry wide changes. This stunning UK supplied right hand drive Series I Coupé was registered in March 1962 and is one of the first 250 E-Types produced. The car presents beautifully in Old English White and its authentic bucket seats are trimmed in contrasting black leather and are complemented by an aluminium dashboard. This exceptional, low mileage, Moss gearbox, example benefitted from a photographic restoration in 2000 and has enjoyed a no expense spared ownership since with recent works including a stainless steel exhaust, new windscreen, new doors, new rear arches and the fitment of floor panels where required and a bare metal respray. Following a restoration in 2000, this Series I has covered less than 3000 miles, and never in the rain! The shut lines are good and the underside of the car is clean. During the five year tenure of our vendor this rare Jaguar has covered less than 150 miles. The low mileage appears to be confirmed by the comprehensive MoT history. It could be said that it has been enjoyed more as a piece of art than a car but that puts it in good company as there is a Series I on display in the New York Museum of Modern Art. Regardless of the recent low usage, OJC 433 has been fully maintained annually by renowned Jaguar specialist, Alan Collins and despite its exempt status will have a fresh MoT test certificate. The history file for this wonderful car is as you would expect and contains various bills and receipts, a V5C registration document, the original owner’s manuals and sales brochure, a service manual, Heritage Certificate and the original and rare paperwork wallets. The accessories list is as impressive and includes a Shelly Jack, a toolkit, a spare wheel and wheel removal tools. Housed in a dehumidified garage under a bespoke car cover, this is one of the best examples we have offered. With an insurance value of £150,000 we also think that the estimate is as attractive as the car. Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale. Accordingly, buyers are on notice that each vehicle is offered ‘as is/as seen’ subject to the Terms and Conditions for the auction. Buyers are advised to inspect the vehicle in person or use a professional to carry out this service. Historics will not entertain disputes over descriptions.
1974 BMW 2002Tii Cabriolet Transmission: manualMileage:50066BMW's director of product planning, Helmut Werner Bönsch and Alex von Falkenhausen, the designer of the BMW M10 engine, had both been owners of a 1600-2 (1602) and, subsequently, had both installed a two-litre engine in their respective cars. Following the realisation that they had both made the same modification, they prepared a joint proposal to BMW's board to manufacture a similar version of the 1602. At the same time, American importer Max Hoffman was asking BMW for a sporting version of the 02 series that could be sold in the United States. The 1990cc engine was made available in 1968 in two states of tune: the base single-carburettor 2002, producing 100bhp as in the 2000 and 2000C and the dual-carburettor, high compression 2002Ti, producing 120bhp as in the 2000Ti and 2000CS. In that same year BMW introduced its first fuel injected model, the 2002 Tii which differed from the carburetted Ti in using Kuglefisher mechanical injection instead of twin carbs, pushing the power further to 130BHP.This is a very rare and original, 1974 BMW 2002Tii Cabriolet. It is believed that only 93 right hand drive Targas were made by Baur and this car is numbered 3595002, being the second facelifted car off the production line. It is not known how many were produced with the injection engine but what we do know is that the engine is virtually the same age as the car indicating that it may well have been a special order when new. Certainly, the Tii clock and 4-speed gearbox are original to the car plus the Zebrano wood surround to the dials and gauges. It was first registered in the UK on 16th October 1974 as SWY 3, but at some time was taken to Guernsey and registered with the number 62190, returning to the mainland in 2005. Recently, £12,310 has been spent on the car including a total fuel injection overhaul with new injectors and a refurbished pump. A full service and every oil seal gasket, pipe and clip has been renewed. The brakes have also been overhauled and the radiator re-cored resulting in a car which now starts and runs beautifully. The rear fold down soft top and the roof material have all been renewed and the seats were repaired and retrimmed. The period steel wheels have been professionally refurbished and new tyres fitted. The exhaust is relatively new to. Rust free, apart from a small blemish on the driver’s door, the car is finished in the original colour of Golf yellow with black roof and black interior and comes supplied with a UK V5C registration document, an MoT test certificate which expires in June 2022, two sets of keys, owner’s manual, original sales brochure and a large history file. A rare fun car which is exceptionally well sorted mechanically.Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale. Accordingly, buyers are on notice that each vehicle is offered ‘as is/as seen’ subject to the Terms and Conditions for the auction. Buyers are advised to inspect the vehicle in person or use a professional to carry out this service. Historics will not entertain disputes over descriptions.
1991 Ferrari Testarossa Transmission: manualMileage:18272Ferrari unveiled the new Testarossa at the 1984 Paris Motor Show marking the end of production of the Boxer, the car that had been the flagship 12-cylinder Ferrari model for the previous ten years. Styled by Pininfarina, the Testarossa paid homage to the great 1950s sports racer that originally bore the name, simply translating as 'Red Head'; the rocker covers being painted red. The mid-engined, rear wheel drive configuration allowed the centre of gravity to be positioned in the middle of the car, with a weight distribution ratio of 40% front and 60% rear, thus achieving excellent cornering and road holding ability. The Testarossa was produced with 16'' five-spoke 'Star' alloy wheels and disc brakes fitted all round; with 309mm discs at the front and 310mm discs at the rear. The Testarossa was larger than its Boxer predecessor; six inches wider and some 2½ inches longer which allowed more leg room. In addition, the temperature inside the cockpit was reduced as twin radiators were mounted in the rear; unlike the Boxer, where the single front mounted radiator had plumbing from the bonnet to the engine behind the seats, which made the cabin very hot, especially on a warm day. The distinctive side vents were as useful as they were visually striking, allowing excellent engine ventilation, whilst contributing to the car's unique styling. This immaculate Testarossa has been lovingly cared for by the fastidious vendor and as such, presents in beautiful condition. The superb history folder confirms the engine has been removed every three or four years to have the cambelts change; the car benefits from having had a recent major service carried out at a cost of circa £11,000. The fuse board is often a problem area on these cars, this has been replaced and the front brakes have been upgraded to 360 Modena specification. The suspension has also been upgraded. This original UK right hand drive Testarossa is supplied with a full set of Schedoni luggage, two keys, a full unused toolkit, original owners pack and sales brochure. Finished in Rossa Corsa with Crema interior, this Ferrari comes with a V5C registration document and a current MoT test certificate valid until 14th March 2022. The registration number of 2 FTR is also included with the car.Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale. Accordingly, buyers are on notice that each vehicle is offered ‘as is/as seen’ subject to the Terms and Conditions for the auction. Buyers are advised to inspect the vehicle in person or use a professional to carry out this service. Historics will not entertain disputes over descriptions.
1984 Opel Monza GSE Transmission: automaticMileage:85730The Opel Monza was launched in 1978 and as far of the UK is concerned, it helped transform the image of its maker almost overnight - all of a sudden, it was an expensive and desirable coupé that went as well as it looked. Based on the Opel Senator, this full-sized 1978-86 ‘Autobahnstormer’ was a good looking and well equipped three-door coupé which proved agile despite its bulk. In its top-of-the-range 3.0 litre injected form, the Monza offered dramatic straight line ability, 0-60mph in 8.5 seconds and a top speed of 133mph. In 1982, the range was facelifted, and the GSE with Recaro seats, digital instrumentation and a prominent rear spoiler was introduced in the UK. This became a bit of a cult car helped in no part by Vauxhall dropping its slightly staider Royale Coupé from the line-up and rebranding its saloon as the Senator which meant for a short while, dealers sold the Opel Monza alongside the Vauxhall Senator. This superb example of this iconic hatchback is presented in metallic blue with black velour interior. This car wants for nothing! The previous owner spent circa £100,000 on it and the invoices for all this work can be seen in the history file. It is powered by the powerful and smooth 3.0 litre straight six mated to an automatic gearbox. Electric windows were an option bestowed upon this remarkable car and the history files contains the original sales brochure for the car, owner’s manual and original General Motors wallet. This surely must be the best example of this executive coupé on the market today.Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale. Accordingly, buyers are on notice that each vehicle is offered ‘as is/as seen’ subject to the Terms and Conditions for the auction. Buyers are advised to inspect the vehicle in person or use a professional to carry out this service. Historics will not entertain disputes over descriptions.

1937 Vincent-HRD 498cc Series-A CometRegistration no. BUP 616Frame no. D1272 Rear Frame no. D1272Engine no. C420 Crankcase Mating no. 6/6• Rare Series A• Matching engine, upper frame, rear frame and gearbox• Superb restoration• Awarded Best Post Vintage machine at Stafford showAfter an initial flirtation with Swiss-made MAG engines, Philip Vincent settled on JAP engines, as his predecessor had, and introduced his trademark rear-sprung frame. A Rudge 'Python' engine was offered as an alternative to the JAP, but, unimpressed by the standard of 'bought-in' engines, Vincent and fellow engineer Phil Irving designed their own engine for 1934, with their high-camshaft layout. Initial models with this engine were the Meteor and Comet, later variations being the Comet Special and the TT model. The Rapide twin was to follow in 1936, but production lasted only until war broke out in 1939.The vendor purchased 'BUP 616' in 2007 (sales receipt on file), in complete running order, but in need of attention. He therefore set about a complete restoration of the machine to his usual high standard. The machine was completely stripped, and all the cycle parts were refurbished and repainted, as necessary. Parts were re-chromed or replaced, and the petrol tank refurbishment was entrusted to specialists Lewis and Templeton. The engine and gearbox were stripped as needed and rebuilt as necessary. The bottom end of the engine was found to be sound and, not requiring any attention, was left undisturbed. The owner advises that the cylinder head was totally refurbished. The Miller Dynomag and Amal carburettor were both reconditioned by specialists, as were the Smiths clock and speedometer. Completing the restoration in 2009, the vendor exhibited the Comet at the Stafford show in April 2009, where it was awarded Best Post-Vintage machine. The owner covered approximately 100 shakedown miles on BUP before placing the machine on display at the Lakeland Motor Museum, where it has remained since. The engine has been turned over at regular intervals and will require modest recommissioning if a new owner is to use it on the road. The history file includes photocopies of the Engine Specification Sheet and Works Order Form, which detail that this Comet was despatched on 14th February 1937 to Mr. W. Offered from the National Motorcycle Museum Collection 1914 Brough 497cc Model HRegistration no. L 734Frame no. 1116Engine no. 336•Believed the oldest survivor of its type•Rediscovered in the mid-1970s and restored•Acquired by the National Motorcycle Museum circa 1989Father of the better-known George, engineer William E Brough had already built a light car and a tricycle at his Nottingham workshop before completing his first motorcycle in 1902. Single-cylinder, v-twin and horizontally opposed twin-cylinder engines were used prior to WWI, though only the latter type was used post-war. Brough's first 'flat twin', an overhead-valve 497cc (3½hp) two-speeder, was developed in 1912 and launched in September 1913 as a 1914 model. It occupied the middle of the Brough range, priced at £56 10s compared to the 6hp v-twin at £72 10s and the 3½hp single at £46. Immensely proud of his new creation, William Brough wrote: 'The beautiful, sweet running of the new Twin Engine has placed it far ahead of any design at present on the market.' Three versions of the Model H were on offer for 1915. Production recommenced post-war, but the Model H was swiftly superseded by the larger (692cc) sidevalve Model G. Faced with increasingly difficult trading conditions, William Brough's company ceased motorcycle production in 1925, leaving his son's Brough Superiors to carry on the family tradition. Believed the oldest survivor of its type, this rare Brough Model H carries a supplier's plaque from J M Jones, Motor Engineer of Tryal Garage & Motor Works, Cribyn, Llanybyther. First registered in Cardiff, Glamorgan in December 1914, 'L 734' spent the first 60 years of it life in Wales. This motorcycle is one of two W E Broughs found in 1974, the other being a 1915 model. They were discovered by John Greenland who recounts that they were found intact and 100% original, having not been used since the 1920s (letter on file). John Greenland went onto restore 'L 734' over the succeeding decade and sold the Brough to the National Motorcycle Museum circa 1989. The accompanying history file is substantial, and prospective purchasers are urged to take the opportunity to examine it. It contains assorted correspondence; period b/w photographs; and old-style V5C document; a quantity of photocopied in-period magazine articles; and a photocopied manufacturer's brochure. Very nicely presented, this machine represents an exciting opportunity to acquire one of the rarest flat-tank models of the Vintage era with the added prestige of being one of the 'original' Broughs. The machine's mechanical condition is not known; accordingly, prospective purchasers must satisfy themselves with regard to its condition, completeness, correctness, or otherwise prior to bidding. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com
Offered from the National Motorcycle Museum Collection 1923 Martinsyde 495cc Motorcycle CombinationRegistration no. FE 5211 (see text)Frame no. 221285Engine no. H/221283•Late example of the marque•Extremely rare model•An older restorationThe British firm of Martinsyde was founded in 1908 when Helmuth Paul Martin and George Harris Handasyde went into partnership to build aircraft. By the end of WWI Martinsyde was Britain's third largest aircraft manufacturer, occupying sites at Brooklands and Woking. Faced with a sharp downturn in demand for its products, the firm turned to motorcycle production at the war's end having acquired the rights to an unusual exhaust-over-inlet v-twin engine, designed by Howard Newman, and an AJS three-speed gearbox. Martinsyde made its first public appearance at the 1919 Motorcycle Show at Olympia, displaying a 6hp combination powered by the 678cc version of Newman's engine. Problems caused by unsatisfactory frame components having been overcome, motorcycle production got properly underway early in 1920. The company's first machines were marketed as Martinsyde-Newmans, abbreviated to simply Martinsyde after Newman's departure. 495cc v-twin and 350cc single-cylinder models were added to the range and Martinsydes began to feature in competitions, achieving some notable successes at Brooklands and the Scottish Six Days Trial. In November 1921 Martinsyde rider H H Bowen captured the One-Hour record at Brooklands, covering 77.58 miles on the 24th and 78.13 miles on the 29th of that month. Although of unusual layout, the Martinsyde motor was nothing if not durable, its maker's advertising confidently declaring that 'You cannot tire the Martinsyde engine'. Many years after the factory's closure, Martinsydes were still setting records, their most astonishing achievement of modern times being Neil Bromilow's circumnavigation of Australia, a 9,933-mile marathon that took him 34 days to complete in 1984. Sadly, in 1922 a disastrous fire destroyed the works and Martinsyde went into liquidation, its name and remaining stock being acquired by BAT. The last complete machine was sold in 1923 and few examples - a little over 30 according to the Martinsyde Register - of the 2,000-or-so made survive today. Even rarer than the 680cc twins, this 495cc Martinsyde comes with an old-style buff logbook (issued in 1963) showing that at that time it was licensed as a solo, the change to sidecar being made shortly thereafter. The logbook confirms matching frame and engine numbers. It should be noted that the registration 'FE 5211' has lapsed and is not recorded in the HPI database; accordingly, prospective purchasers should satisfy themselves with regard to this vehicle's registration status prior to bidding. Apparently, an older restoration, the machine is offered with Martinsyde Register correspondence and a photocopied manufacturer's brochure. The machine's mechanical condition is not known; accordingly, prospective purchasers must satisfy themselves with regard to its condition, completeness, correctness, or otherwise prior to bidding. It should be noted that this machine is recorded as a 680cc model in the Martinsyde Register. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com
Property of a deceased's estate 1930 Scott 596cc Flying Squirrel De Luxe Registration no. 8063 MN (IOM see text)Frame no. 37Engine no. FY3521A•The 1930 Olympia Show machine•Long term enthusiast ownership from 1966 – 2020•1931 model but eligible for the Banbury Run and other vintage events•An eye catching and rare ScottScotts have always been different from more mainstream motorcycles in much the same way as Bugattis in the world of vintage cars – indeed the Scott/Bugatti comparison is one that has been made many times before. From the very beginning in 1908 Scotts have attracted a following bordering on the fanatical. It was at the 1931 Manx Grand Prix that the well-known racer Noel Mavrogordato was advised that he could win quite easily if he rode a Norton. His response was that he knew this, but he would rather lose on a Scott. The factory's 1931 sales brochure relates that the 'new type Flying Squirrel Model for 1931' was developed from the previous year's Sprint Special model. The major change was the adoption of the Sprint's slightly lighter single downtube frame. There were two variants of the new Flyer: the more basic Tourer, and the more highly specified De Luxe which is the model offered here. Amongst the features of the De Luxe were Scott's own 'kite' forks and an Enfield rear wheel with its cush-drive. Both new Flyers featured a new chrome plated petrol tank whose shape mimicked that of the ongoing TT Replica model.A letter dated 23.6.99 from the late John Underhill, then registrar of the Scott Owners Club, is supplied with this machine in which he confirms that the frame and engine number are the original pairing, and that 'It was despatched from the factory to Kitsons London on 5/11/30 and was in fact one of the 1930 show models.'The late owner acquired the Scott in January 1966 and used it as his daily transport for many years. Perhaps he already had a rebuild in mind, and this may have been the reason for consulting John Underhill, but John's letter with its detailed information certainly steered the direction of the restoration. We understand that the work, including an engine rebuild, was carried out about twenty years ago. Specialist tasks were farmed out, but there is no supporting paperwork. The tank work was by Terry Hall, and it was suitably decorated by Alan Templeton. We understand that the Pilgrim pump was modified to drip feed operation for more reliable engine lubrication. This is a known and respected modification. The machine is presently registered in the IOM (8063 MN) and was previously UK registered 'GK 2003'. Sadly GK 2003 has lapsed from the DVLA/HPI databases, therefore UK purchasers will need to re-register the machine for use on UK roads. Documentation includes a Manx registration certificate, an older Manx buff logbook, and a VMCC extract from the works records. Following a period of inactivity recommissioning is recommended. Prospective bidders should satisfy themselves as to the motorcycle's completeness and mechanical condition.Lot to be sold without reserve. This lot is subject to the following lot symbols: NN If purchased by a UK resident, this machine is subject to a NOVA declaration, whilst the responsibility of submitting the NOVA rests with the Buyer to do so, Bonhams will facilitate the process by engaging an agent (CARS) to undertake the NOVA on the Buyer's behalf. A fee of £250 + VAT to do so will be added to the Buyer's invoice. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com
1914 Wall Auto-Wheel & Gentleman's Vindec CycleRegistration no. AHJ 656A (see text)Frame no. Y20746Engine no. 8920Motorised attachments for bicycles were first popularised in the Continent but even before The Great War there were one or two British examples, perhaps the best known being the Wall Auto-Wheel. The latter was the work of A W Wall, of Guildford, who offered a proper motorcycle of his own design during 1903/1904, which was later marketed under the 'Roc' name and produced in Birmingham. Wall's prototype Auto-Wheel appeared around 1909 and the first production version in 1912. Powered by a 118cc four-stroke engine, the Wall Auto-Wheel was mounted in its own tubular frame, compete with fuel tank, and fitted alongside the bicycle's rear wheel, endowing the machine with a top speed of around 15mph on the flat ('light pedal assistance' was required to cope with ascents). Output totalled some 1,750 units in 1913 and 10,000 in 1914, 5,000 of which were produced by BSA, production continuing into the mid-1920s. Wall's advertisements listed HRH Prince George of Battenberg and HRH Prince Henry of Russia as satisfied customers.Belonging to the vendor for at least the last 30 years, this example is attached to a gentleman's Vindec cycle and comes with an old-style V5 registration document; photocopy manufacture's brochure; and VMCC dating letter (for the engine). Its prior history is not known. The machine is offered for restoration and sold strictly as viewed. There is no registration document present but the registration 'AHJ 656A' is listed in the HPI database. Nevertheless, prospective purchasers should satisfy themselves with regard to this motorcycle's registration status prior to bidding. Lot to be sold without reserve. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com
