An American red-painted two-seater dodgem bumper carCirca 1930sOf typical form, with original seat and wheel, with chrome plating spelling out DODGEM on the nose and with chromium plated detailing to the front, and a continuous rubber bumper, 100cm wide, 159cm deep, 90cm high (39in wide, 62 1/2in deep, 35in high) Footnotes:Alongside the carousel horse, Dodgems are one of the most recognisable and well-loved rides still in existence today. An American invention, the precursor was 'The Whip' developed and patented by William F. Mangels in 1914 which spun its tub-shaped cars around a track and was 'to change the face of the fairground over the next quarter of a century.' (Weedon & Ward, Fairground Art, p. 173.)It wasn't until Celeste Capitelli's patent in 1926, in which a steel track was alternately charged with positive and negative currents, that cars could drive with a complete freedom of movement and the Dodgems as we know them today were born. This lot is subject to the following lot symbols: TPTP For auctions held in Scotland: Lots will be moved to an offsite storage location (Constantine, Constantine House, North Caldeen Road, Coatbridge ML5 4EF, Scotland, UK) and will only be available for collection from this location at the date stated in the catalogue. Good-looking 964 rebuilt a few years ago and finished in topical Slate Grey. Despite the fact that Steve McQueen's 1971 film Le Mans is full of drama, disaster and despair, it's most commonly remembered for the opening sequence with McQueen quietly making his way through Northern France in his 1970 'D' Series 911 S. The Slate Grey car looks entirely at home on a misty early morning as the Porsche gently negotiates the sweeping, tree-lined curves of the D35 between Brulon and Cheville with no soundtrack apart from a little Michel Legrand flute music and an occasional 'gruffle' from the flat-six and, with the benefit of nostalgia, Slate Grey is now the ‘coolest’ colour for classic 911s.This striking 911 (964) Carrera 2 dates from 1990 and is indeed finished in Slate Grey with a black leather interior and 968 alloys. It’s a right-hand drive Carrera 2 powered by 3.6-litre 250bhp flat-six with a 5-speed manual gearbox and capable of 0-60 in 5.3 seconds and 160mph.It was bought by our vendor, a Porsche enthusiast, in 2009 as a ‘Category D’ insurance claim (damaged but repairable - insurance company chose not to repair). Apparently there was front end damage to the bumper and the front oil-cooler. During the front end repair, the engine was refilled and ran perfectly, however, it was stripped with a view to a possible rebuild but very little wear was found and it was reassembled with a basic refresh only 5,000 miles ago. The front end was rebuilt with a new bumper assembly but the wings are original.Since completion, some ten years ago, he has enjoyed various trips including the Nürburgring and it was even loaned to Lancaster Porsche on an open evening launch as they were unable to find a suitably attractive Porsche 964!The car will come to the sale with a fresh MOT and is very sensibly estimated for a 964 of this quality, an ideal entry into the world of 911 ownership. Ready to be enjoyed during what’s left of this summer, maybe even a trip to Northern France with the Autumn sunshine dappling through the trees onto those gleaming Slate Grey wings and the soundtrack from Le Mans playing in the background. Why not?Specification Make: PORSCHE Model: 911 964 Year: 1990 Chassis Number: WP0ZZZ96ZLS404222 Registration Number: G338 BTW Transmission: Manual Engine Number: 62L07648 Drive Side: Right-hand Drive Odometer Reading: 137171 Miles Make: RHD Interior Colour: Black LeatherClick here for more details and images

Lot 397

Stunning, 276bhp, AWD, Gen-3 WRX STi  'Hawk Eye' that's covered less than 7,000 miles from new.  From the early 1990s through to 2008, Subaru enjoyed enormous success on the World Rally stage and the Impreza was the star. All-wheel drive, great acceleration, traction and brakes made the cars seriously capable performers. The WRX or 'World Rally Experimental' production car was based on the rally-winning Impreza and carried over many of the driver focused features and systems. The WRX STI was the top of the line version and in good hands it was a hard-to-beat carThe redesigned, third-generation (2005-07) Impreza WRX STI featured swept-back headlights that resembled hawk eyes and a three-part grille that looked like an aeroplane. Its front bumper sported a lower apron with an integrated rectangular grille for the intercooler and instead of the fog lights, it featured two body-coloured plastic caps with the red Subaru Tecnica International logo. The STI version featured a spoiler on the upper side of the rear windscreen and a wing on the boot lid. Inside, the carmaker kept the sports bucket seats with high bolstering and integrated headrests. In the instrument cluster, the tachometer took centre stage flanked by the speedometer on the right and the fuel and coolant-temperature gauges on the left dial. The STI was available in only one trim level, with the sound system on the upper side and the climate control dials on the lower side on the centre stack.Unlike the rest of the Impreza range, the STI version featured a 6-speed manual and an adjustable front and rear torque distribution dial for selected markets. Its flat-four engine provided a claimed 276bhp.Supplied to its first owner on 29th June 2007 in Ireland, this superb third generation ‘Hawk Eye’ WRX STi is finished in World Rally Blue with a contrasting blue and black cloth interior with STi badging on the front seats. Under the bonnet sits the 2.5-litre EJ255 four-cylinder Boxer engine with single TD04 turbocharger which develops 276bhp and 289lb/ft of torque driving all four wheels via a 5-speed manual transmission offering enough performance and excitement for most buyers with 0-60mph achievable in 5.4 seconds. The car had its first service by Donnelly Brothers of Belfast, a main Subaru dealer, on 7th August at 1,148 miles and was used sparingly and then stored in a humidified environment until our lucky vendor managed to purchase the vehicle last year. He immediately set about having the car recommissioned by Paul Wray Motorsport of Strabane, a specialist in Subarus, making sure it was fully up to speed including all belts, brakes overhauled and fuel lines cleaned through, with the mileage then showing at 6,500. With just under 7,000 miles on the odometer it has been decided due to lack of use to let this fabulous WRX go to its next custodian. The car is totally standard and has had no upgrades or been chipped, super rare for these cars, and consequently can be regarded as collector quality. Supplied with all of its original documentation, book pack with folder, and both keys, it presents as you might expect from an example with such low mileage that has been totally cherished from new.Specification Make: SUBARU Model: IMPREZA WRX STI 2.5L Year: 2007 Chassis Number: JF1GDFKH37G069918 Registration Number: OEZ 2803 Transmission: Manual Engine Number: 072428 Drive Side: Right-hand Drive Odometer Reading: 6910 Miles Make: RHD Interior Colour: Blue/Black ClothClick here for more details and images

Lot 363

An attractive example of the rare, 1972 model year-only, 'side oil-fill' 911E in a great colour combination. By 1972, the 911 model range had stabilised at three: the entry-level 911T, middle-ranking 911E, and top-of-the-range 911S, all of which were available as either a closed Coupé or Targa convertible. With the 2.2-litre engine's arrival, a common type of cylinder head was adopted, the differing power outputs being determined principally by valve timing rather than valve sizes as had been the case hitherto. In 1972, all 911 variants received the 2,341cc (nominally 2.4-litre) unit, which in the case of the 911E produced around 165bhp, 40 more than the original 911 of 1963. For 1972, in addition to the larger engine, the 'E-series’ cars had a further two revisions. An aggressive new front spoiler was incorporated below the bumper and in an attempt to move as much weight as possible towards the centre of the car, the oil tank was re-positioned inboard of the right rear wheel arch, resulting in the introduction of an external oil filler cap on the right-hand side rear wing behind a flap (Oel Klappe). The propensity for petrol station attendants to fill the oil tank with fuel and the resulting warranty claims quickly persuaded Porsche to change the design and 1972 'Oel Klappe' cars became difficult to sell, possibly resulting in their comparative scarcity today. As is often the case, that rarity has resulted in the 'Oel Klappe' cars now being the most desirable. The Porsche Letter of Authenticity confirms that this lovely 911E rolled of the production line on 1st March 1972 and was one of the rare 1972 MY models that featured the side oil-filler. It was destined for Porsche Great Britain and was finished in Porsche Blue Metallic (324) over a beige/tan leather and cloth interior and specified with Sports seats, sunroof and a rear wiper. It was purchased in 2003 by our vendor who is a Porsche enthusiast and the owner of a commercial bodyshop, so naturally a good bit of resource has been lavished on this fine narrow-bodied 911E. The distinctive beige/tan interior has been retrimmed by Southbound and really complements the car’s rich Metallic Blau hue. The V5C shows five previous owners and reveals that at some stage of its life the engine was replaced. The current engine number is only a few hundred digits different from the original which suggests that the engine was replaced very early on. Perhaps it was one of the many that didn’t respond well to petrol in the oil tank. It’s now running on carburettors and would benefit from some light recommissioning after a year in storage.Early 911s possess a certain purity of line, a complete world away from the aerodynamic extravagances of the 1980s and 1990s and in terms of style, it's the early cars that engender the most appreciative glances. A well set-up and maintained 911T or E, driven with an intelligent right foot, will provide some of the most quintessentially rewarding driving experiences you have ever had. Specification Make: PORSCHE Model: 911E Year: 1972 Chassis Number: 9112200596 Registration Number: FUD 465K Transmission: Manual Engine Number: 6220923 Make: Interior Colour: Tan Leather - Cloth InsertsClick here for more details and images

Lot 450

**Saleroom Notice - Please note the correct estimate is £80,000 – £100,000, not £60,000 - £80,000 as incorrectly catalogued.** The JDM dream, presenting USA import eligible Sonic Silver Series I, with incredibly rare JDM parts fitted, in mainly standard guise. Rightfully lauded as the 'Holy Grail' of the JDM world, the R34 GT-R is a car which goes against the age old saying of 'never meet your heroes' as it is everything one would hope it to be. Phenomenally advanced for its time, it's easy to forget that this car was launched in 1999 with a smörgåsbord  of hugely advanced technology such as the electronically-controlled Super HICAS 4-wheel steering, 5.8" LCD multifunction display in the dashboard, showing seven different live readings of engine and vehicle statistics, aggressive new styling, a stiffer bodyshell and a reworked version of the bulletproof and highly modifiable RB26DETT twin-turbo inline-six under the bonnet. The engine was mated to an all-new Getrag six-speed gearbox and transfer case. Unlike some other performance cars of the 1990s, Nissan did not neglect the braking system and fitted Brembo brakes with 300mm vented discs.Described by Evo magazine as 'A warrior-class performer' in its 2007 road test, where a standard R34 GT-R was pitted against the likes of a McLaren F1, Pagani Zonda, Ferrari F40 and Bugatti Veyron, the GT-R's reputation as a 'class act' remained intact. The V-Spec was introduced in October 1999, just nine months after the launch of the R34 Series I, making it an almost immediate upgrade over the standard car. While the Series I was a fantastic car, the improvements were thorough and ensured the V-Spec and V-Spec II cars are even more desirable. Changes for the V-Spec included an improved suspension system featuring stiffer springs and dampers, Brembo brakes as standard, lighter forged-aluminium wheels allowing wider tires, an active limited-slip differential, and an improved aero package with a front-lip spoiler and carbon fibre rear wing.As a V-Spec I, JDM-delivered, right-hand drive example, this is one of 514 Sonic Silver (KV4) V-Spec I cars out of a total production run of 11,578. It presents in excellent condition having been maintained religiously before and after its import in 2020, covering just 1,000km since landing on UK shores, and now displaying 137,000km. The car has been serviced by a marque specialist since being in the UK and comes to market benefitting from a service, detail and MOT.A keen eye will spot this isn’t a totally standard R34 GT-R having been enhanced with expensive, and somewhat 'unobtanium' parts such as the Nismo S-Tune front bumper, NISMO NE-1 stainless steel exhaust (costing £3,255 before shipping and taxes), NISMO gauge cluster, a front-mounted intercooler as well as Japan Racing wheels and what appear to be HSD coil-over suspension. It may not be able to claim the original 'Godzilla' title, as that remains with the R32 GT-R, but the newcomer definitely carried the torch, and arguably the R34 GT-R has become the most iconic and most recognised car ever to emerge from Japan in their late-90s 'golden era'.With the way R34 GT-R prices have skyrocketed so comfortably into the six-figure sums in recent years, this cherished, two UK-owner example is surely one of the final chances to acquire such a desirable car for such reasonable money, especially considering the 25-year import rule has now legalised this car for the US-market meaning prices are only going to go one way.SpecificationMake: NISSANModel: SKYLINEYear: 1999Chassis Number: BNR34001066Registration Number: S422 LEPTransmission: ManualEngine Number: RB26Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 139000 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: Black ClothClick here for more details and images

Lot 452

A superb example of the coveted Evo VI Tommi Mäkinen RS Edition, number 33 of just 218 made. Launched at the peak of rally-mania, Mitsubishi experienced huge success in Lancer Evolution sales, reportedly selling 6,000 Evolution IVs in the first three days of its launch! The 1996 WRC season brought Mitsubishi its first World Rally Championship drivers’ title, with thanks to a blisteringly quick driver named Tommi Mäkinen. In quick succession, the Lancer Evolution VI came to be and in the latter-half of 1999, Mitsubishi unleashed a special edition to celebrate its favourite driver's four consecutive WRC drivers' titles from 1996-1999; the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI Tommi Mäkinen Edition (TME). The Evolution VI was already a technological tour-de-force but the TME came equipped with a more responsive titanium turbocharger, uprated and lowered suspension, quicker steering, an upgraded exhaust, a new ECU, beefed-up transfer case internals, a redesigned front bumper for improved cooling and authentic 17" WRC Enkei alloy wheels. The interior featured embossed Recaro seats, a MOMO steering wheel and red stitching. The performance upgrades saw 0-60mph despatched in 4.4 seconds and a maximum top speed of 150mph. Power was rumoured to be north of 300bhp, rather than the 276bhp 'Gentleman’s agreement'.Offered here is the RS variant of the TME featuring a more aggressive bodykit, 10mm lower suspension with revised dampers, a helical front limited-slip differential and a faster-spooling titanium turbocharger, all with the aim of improving the car’s performance on tarmac surfaces. Finished in Scotia White and featuring the correct red/black Recaro seats and interior which are generally in very good condition with only wear to the gear knob noted.First registered in Japan before being imported to the UK by our vendor in September 2020 and registered with the DVLA, in his possession since and forming part of his JDM Collection. As the lightweight RS variant of the TME – of which it is believed only 200 were made - these famously with no traction control, ABS, air bags or electric windows. The car has been well maintained whilst in his ownership and driven sparingly, now displaying 115,657km (71,840 miles). Serviced in August in preparation for sale, this RS remains close to standard specification, with the only modifications being a mushroom air filter. Offered with a current MOT, V5C and some receipts for maintenance.Specification Make: MITSUBISHI Model: EVO VI Year: 2000 Chassis Number: CP9A0201459 Registration Number: V457 VKE Transmission: Manual Engine Number: 4G63 Odometer Reading: 110000 Miles Make: Interior Colour: Black ClothClick here for more details and images

Lot 373

**Saleroom announcement** Please note the paint is Platinum Diamond not Bronze Metallic A rare and sought after right-hand drive UK 3-litre Carrera Sport model with long family ownership - lots of potential! Introduced in September 1975 for the 1976 model year with production only running until 1977, the interesting Carrera 3.0 is rightly regarded as somewhat of a special and rare model amongst the impact-bumper era, 911 model range.Following on after the MFI-engined Carrera 2.7, the 3.0 Carrera heralded the adoption of the newly developed Bosch K-Jetronic CIS fuel-injection engine. This torque-rich, smooth and free-revving 3-litre engine, with a distinctive ‘cam' effect from 4,000rpm, produced 200bhp and was effectively a naturally aspirated version of the 930 Turbo's drivetrain.During its short two year life span, only 3,687 cars were built - a tiny amount compared to nearly 58,000 911 SCs and 76,500 3.2 Carreras produced. Of these, 2,564 were Coupés and 1,123 were Targas with only around 1,064 Coupés being manufactured in right-hand drive. Very few right-hand drive cars reached the UK and with just a two-year production run, only 121 Carrera 3.0 Coupés are verified by their chassis numbers with Porsche Club GB.Have a read of this article from Porsche experts Elferspot about the 3.0 Carrera: https://www.elferspot.com/en/magazin/buyers-guide-porsche-911-carrera-3-0/The car presented here is a 1977 Porsche 911 3.0 Carrera Sport Coupé in distinctive Bronze Metallic, a special-order paint, over a tan and tartan interior with original Recaro sports seats. It's a UK-supplied, 5-speed, matching-numbers car and was specified with electric windows and sunroof. This striking sports-car was originally supplied on 7th February 1977 via Official Porsche Centre Parker & Parker Ltd of Longpool, Kendal in Cumbria, and sold to a customer in Blackburn. It then passed through a few owners, before being bought in October 1982 by Mr Edwards of Pockley, York; he subsequently sold it, in September 1983, to our vendor’s father (but registered the car in his wife’s name); remarkably, it has been in the care of his family ever since (ownership passing to our vendor in 2014). By 2013 and due in part to the father’s declining health, the car had slumbered for several years in the garage of the family home. It an attempt to get the car ‘back on its feet’, father and son instructed Porsche specialists, Gantspeed Engineering Ltd, to carry out an extensive mechanical refurbishment. This included an engine rebuild (which retains its distinctive 5-blade cooling fan, as opposed to the newer 11-blade version), transmission overhaul and other work, totalling some £35,000 (invoices in file). The car was driven and enjoyed after being run-in but, due to other commitments, it ended up back in the garage, where it again has sat unused for a number of years. Whilst being worked on, the sills, floors and kidney bowls were all inspected and deemed in good shape, but the paintwork (believed to be original) is in need of some TLC, plus some areas of the trim likewise (the missing Porsche bonnet badge does come with the car though). With much originality throughout, the factory interior has held up especially well, indeed, with a bit of attention and expenditure, this could quite easily be a top-top 3.0, with long diligent ownership, much paperwork and its original book pack (mislaid at the time of writing) to accompany it.As one of the rarest UK-market production Porsches, this wholesome example represents good value against the 930 Turbo and is the smart choice for those who respect history, rarity and originality.SpecificationMake: PORSCHEModel: 911 3.0 CARRERA SPORT COUPÉYear: 1977Chassis Number: 9117600619Registration Number: VEC 84RTransmission: Manual Engine Number: 6670828 Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 76528 MilesMake: RHDClick here for more details and images
