1967 Chevrolet Corvette C2 Stingray 427 Transmission: manualMileage:59560The Corvette Stingray had grown to be America's most popular sports car since its debut in 1953 but it was time for a change for the 1963-1967 models. Even the most superlative design grows whiskers after a decade and Chevrolet Chief, Bill Mitchell and stylist, Larry Shinoda, faced a tough task; to improve a living legend. Not only did they succeed but their creation turned into a modern classic and they created the most collectible Corvette of them all, sending sales soaring to record levels. Seeds were planted by the Stingray Special racer and experimental XP-720 which displayed a smooth fastback profile and split back window. These and other styling details such as pivoting hidden headlights, doors cut into the roof, and a swage line dip all wound up in the production Stingray. The four headlights aligned with the pointy front end when shut, rotating open when needed. Luggage space grew, though lack of a boot lid earned few plaudits. There was less fibreglass but nearly twice as much steel in the sculptured body, which rode a shorter 98-inch wheelbase. This truly stunning example of the 427 Corvette C2 Stingray was first manufactured in St Louis, Missouri by GM in June 1967 and supplied by Orr Chev-Cadillac in Texas, confirmed by the NCRS Judging Chairman Tom Falconer in a dating certificate included in the history file. The car is presented in a stunning combination of near unmarked metallic Marlboro Maroon coachwork with full black trim, the Stinger hood (Bonnet bulge) which was a 1967 BB option only and all the chrome trimmings one would expect. From new it was specified with factory air conditioning - rare for a convertible - and features the Rallye wheels again a 1967 only option and the side exhaust which sounds fabulous. Being the big block 427ci V8 with 390 bhp this example also ticks the box for power and the ability to really surprise modern day traffic. We can ascertain from the history file that the car was purchased by an Italian collector in Parma in 2015 from a Mr Crecos in Illinois, USA an NCRS member who had the car restored. Once in Italy an engine fault resulted in the owner spending circa €30,000 on an engine rebuild and upgrades to the lights for Italian roadgoing reasons. Our vendor, who had been searching for a top notch C2, flew to Parma in 2016 having heard that post rebuild, the collector was looking to sell his example and buy a Porsche 356 Speedster. After a coffee and inspection he fell in love and made an offer before purchasing and sending the car back to the UK. Having already had an engine rebuild, our vendor was aware it would benefit from a gearbox rebuild and, wanting the car to be absolutely perfect for him, he decided almost immediately to commission Claremont Corvette in April 2016 to rebuild the gearbox. Our vendor now states the car runs and drives superbly and invoices for all the work undertaken during its time in Italy and the UK can be found within the history file alongside manuals, history and title reports, NCRS communication and dating certificate, US certificate of title, Italian papers and UK V5C certificate.Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale. Accordingly, buyers are on notice that each vehicle is offered ‘as is/as seen’ subject to the Terms and Conditions for the auction. Buyers are advised to inspect the vehicle in person or use a professional to carry out this service. Historics will not entertain disputes over descriptions.

The Stan West Collection, 1936 Paris Salon1936 Rolls-Royce Phantom III Pillar-less Continental Touring SaloonCoachwork by Henri BinderRegistration no. TSY 684Chassis no. 3AZ140*One of circa 300 surviving Phantom IIIs*Delivered new to France*First owned by Mr Alfred Benhaim*Copy chassis cards availableFootnotes:'The most captious critic is obliged to admit that a Phantom III provides all that can be wished for in a large luxury motor-car. The comfort, silence and road-holding with really impressive acceleration and maximum speed made a combination of virtues which few cars of the time could equal.' - Anthony Bird, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, 1964.Perhaps the most outstanding luxury car of the 1930s - certainly on this side of the Channel - was the Rolls-Royce Phantom III. Introduced in 1936, the 7,340cc V12-engined Phantom III succeeded the Phantom II, the six-cylinder engine of which was considered to be at the end of its development life. The choice of a V12 configuration was a logical one for Rolls-Royce, the company already having had considerable experience of manufacturing V12 aero engines such as that used in the record-breaking Supermarine S6B seaplane. No doubt another consideration was the need to match the multi-cylinder opposition, notably the V16 Cadillac and V12 Hispano-Suiza. A state-of-the-art design employing advanced materials and techniques such as 'skeleton' cylinder blocks with wet liners and aluminium alloy cylinder heads, the PIII V12 produced 165bhp in its debut form. The maximum output was subsequently raised to 180 brake horsepower, which was sufficient to propel later examples to 100mph, earlier models being capable of around 90. Its engine configuration aside, the Phantom III represents an important milestone in the history of Rolls-Royce cars, being the first with independent front suspension. Including 10 experimental cars, only 727 Phantom IIIs were made between 1936 and 1940, of which around 300 exist worldwide today. The Rolls-Royce Phantom III was, of course, an exclusively coachbuilt automobile. Most of the great British and European coachbuilding firms offered designs, many of them unique, on the Phantom III chassis. Lawrence Dalton's definitive work, Rolls-Royce, The Derby Phantoms, records that chassis number '3AZ140' was originally bodied as a (pillar-less) Continental Touring Saloon by Henri Binder. (Page 367 features a photograph of '3AZ140' on the French coachbuilder's stand at the 1936 Paris Salon.) Copy chassis cards show that the Phantom was supplied with a speedometer in kilometres; a fuel gauge in litres, French registration plates; and wiring and brackets for Marchal headlamps. The car's first owner was one Alfred Benhaim of Neuilly-sur-Seine, a suburb of Paris, and the chassis cards show that Mr Benhaim was still the owner in July 1951, by which time he had moved closer to the centre of the city. (Mr Benhaim was obviously a connoisseur of fine automobiles: in September 2020 Bonhams sold his 1938 Bentley 4¼-Litre at our Goodwood Revival sale.)At time the of cataloguing no other documents were to hand apart from a V5C Registration Certificate and P&A Wood's Minor Road Test and Mechanical report prepared for Stan West and dated August 2014 (perusal recommended).Lot to be sold without reserve. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com

1978 Lincoln Continental Mark V, Diamond Jubilee Edition, Jubilee Gold Producing only 5,159 cars, the Diamond Anniversary Edition of the Lincoln Continental Mark V celebrated Ford Motor Companys 75th birthday (and with so in style). In 1978 it was the most expensive production car in the USA with it being twice the price of a Cadillac De Ville Sedan. They came in two colours, both using a special clear coat colour (in this case Jubilee Gold). This was accompanied by a plush Landau vinyl roof and body trim, padded centre console, luxury cloth upholstery alongside padded leather and ebony wood accents. Nothing about the car's specifications were anything like typical vehicles available - hence the high price tag. This particular Continental comes in Jubilee Gold with plush velour champagne upholstery and white wall tyres - a very period combination. The motorcar has recently had a new battery, new air con compressor fitted (and gassed), all weather stripping replaced on doors windows and moon roof, new Valino padded vinyl carriage roof and trunk arch costing the current owner a hefty £8,000. This work has left the vehicle in superb condition mechanically and aesthetically allowing the driver to get everything out of its 7.4 litre engine. The original 8 track is boxed and supplied with the car for those who wish to have the period look can easily be reinstalled. The vehicle is accompanied by a large history file including its original owner drivers manual, five volumes of workshop manuals covering not only the Lincoln but all Ford vehicles for 1978s, plus a large supplement brochure for the power moon roof. It makes for a great read with great details of its original Philadelphia dealer. This low mile example continues to remain popular amongst seventies American enthusiasts. Registration EMV 167T, 44,500 miles from new. - Our buyers premium on all cars, motorbikes and scooters is 10% + VAT. - We encourage any interested parties to inspect the vehicle on our 4th September viewing day (10am-2pm) and prior to sale on Sunday 5th (from 10am-12 noon) to satisfy themselves on the car's condition, please check our buying terms and conditions for cars available online or via email. - Transportation options may be available, please contact us for a quote.
