Local Interest* 'WILK' John William (Bill) Wilkinson (British 1906-1994) an amusing ink and watercolour caricature, entitled 'Believe It Or Not It Happened At Grasmere' a depiction of five 'tups' painted in the colours of the tricolor, the onlooking animals including 'The Lion and The Lamb' watching in astonishment, signed lower right, within a slender ebonised frame, under glass 40cm x 50cm & 42cm x 52cm overall. *'Wilk' or John William 'Bill' Wilkinson was born, lived and died in Brigham, Keswick. On leaving school he started work at a bobbin mill and went on to become a fitter for the Keswick Gas Company. In 1954 with his wife Mary he opened a shop in the front room of his house 'Greta Cottage'. He became famous for his gentle and amusing caricatures of Lakeland life and characters.

Peter Archer limited edition print entitled 'The Convoy' nr 205/850 signed in pencil to the margin. The SAS had been active behind enemy lines for three weeks. Given the wear on the vehicles and indeterminate length of deployment it was decided to refurbish the columns inside enemy territory. A convoy of ten 4 ton trucks, manned by members of the Regiment crossed into Western Iraq on 12th February. This scene shows the convoy making rendez-vous with the columns in Wadi Tubal, eighty-seven mildes behind enemy lines. This print bears an inscription to Warrant Officer Class II [.....] (RSM) ILRRPS by WO's and Sgt's Mess 22 SAS Regiment, March 1996. This lot includes a coloured caricature print by JAK (Raymond Jackson) showing a humorous military scene titled "Mess Meeting, Wadi Tubal, Iraq, 16th February 1991", 31 x 47cm in gilt aluminium style frame. (2) Note: Warrant Officer Class II [...] was the President of the SAS Sergeants' mess, this mess meeting behind enemy lines was one that was conducted with weapons locked and loaded. Interestingly mess funds were flush at the time, so the proposed purchase of new leather Chesterfield sofas was approved for the Sergeants Mess at this meeting, these sofas are very much a feature of the Mess to this day. This print was presented to WOII [...] personally by the artist. The original was sold by Bespoke Auctions in 2022.

The Beatles last tour of the UK was comparatively small visiting only nine venues and their set list was limited to eleven songs, 27 x 18 cm. Tegg, circa 1816, etched caricature with contemporary hand-colouring, 345 x 240 mm, mounted, framed and glazedQTY: (1)NOTE:BM Satires number 12844. A social caricature with the title indicative of the three characters in the foreground. An elegant and well-dressed young woman, peers through a monocle at a rotund butcher. Behind them, sitting rather primly, is the butcher's wife, observing the scene with a sour and disapproving expression, which almost certainly bodes ill for the flirtatious butcher in the very near future.
