Good-looking 964 rebuilt a few years ago and finished in topical Slate Grey. Despite the fact that Steve McQueen's 1971 film Le Mans is full of drama, disaster and despair, it's most commonly remembered for the opening sequence with McQueen quietly making his way through Northern France in his 1970 'D' Series 911 S. The Slate Grey car looks entirely at home on a misty early morning as the Porsche gently negotiates the sweeping, tree-lined curves of the D35 between Brulon and Cheville with no soundtrack apart from a little Michel Legrand flute music and an occasional 'gruffle' from the flat-six and, with the benefit of nostalgia, Slate Grey is now the ‘coolest’ colour for classic 911s.This striking 911 (964) Carrera 2 dates from 1990 and is indeed finished in Slate Grey with a black leather interior and 968 alloys. It’s a right-hand drive Carrera 2 powered by 3.6-litre 250bhp flat-six with a 5-speed manual gearbox and capable of 0-60 in 5.3 seconds and 160mph.It was bought by our vendor, a Porsche enthusiast, in 2009 as a ‘Category D’ insurance claim (damaged but repairable - insurance company chose not to repair). Apparently there was front end damage to the bumper and the front oil-cooler. During the front end repair, the engine was refilled and ran perfectly, however, it was stripped with a view to a possible rebuild but very little wear was found and it was reassembled with a basic refresh only 5,000 miles ago. The front end was rebuilt with a new bumper assembly but the wings are original.Since completion, some ten years ago, he has enjoyed various trips including the Nürburgring and it was even loaned to Lancaster Porsche on an open evening launch as they were unable to find a suitably attractive Porsche 964!The car will come to the sale with a fresh MOT and is very sensibly estimated for a 964 of this quality, an ideal entry into the world of 911 ownership. Ready to be enjoyed during what’s left of this summer, maybe even a trip to Northern France with the Autumn sunshine dappling through the trees onto those gleaming Slate Grey wings and the soundtrack from Le Mans playing in the background. UK-supplied in Iris Blue Metallic with a Special Wishes interior and presented to auction from 27 years ownership. One of the fastest production cars available at the time, the Porsche 930 Turbo was revered for its performance and reliability during the 1970s and by the 1980s it became one of the defining cars of the decade. It was first seen at the 1973 Paris Auto Show and full production commenced two years later. The basic engine underpinnings came from the Carrera 2.7RS which was increased to three litres and of course, turbocharged with technology gained from Porsche's 917/30 Can-Am program. The bodywork received special treatment resulting in one of the most aggressive looking Porsches ever made, with its wide arches and impressive rear whale-tail and the brakes came directly from the Porsche 917 race car. Porsche made its first and most significant changes to the 930 for the 1978 model year, enlarging the engine bore by 2mm to a total displacement of 3,299cc (3.3-litre) and adding an air-to-air intercooler. The flat-six powertrain mated to a 4-speed manual transmission and boosted by a turbocharger complemented by the intercooler offered 300bhp and 304ft/lbs of torque.Performance was amazing for the era and the Turbo 3.3 can still keep up with modern sports cars when accelerating from a standstill, requiring 5.4 seconds for 0-60mph and a quarter-mile time of 14 seconds flat with a top speed of 160mph. The iconic side profile so redolent of its era came from the re-profiled 'whale tail' spoiler which was raised slightly to make room for the intercooler and the look completed by its muscular haunches. Usually specified in black, red or white, most UK cars had the same interiors, very few, however, were specified under the Special Wishes program like this fabulous example.Produced for the 1986 model-year as the 167th car under that year’s GS chassis prefix it was nonetheless registered on 1st November 1985 to the first of just four UK owners and supplied by JCT600 of Leeds in Iris Blue Metallic and its striking two-tone leather interior under the aforementioned program. It was purchased by our vendor on 25th October 1997 when the car had covered some 43,000 miles by the three previous owners. As a mechanical engineer, the car was to be diligently maintained by our vendor with frequent oil changes, plugs and other sundry maintenance, whilst marque specialists attended to the more important works during his 27 years of ownershipThese included attention to the B-post and kidney bowl by Racing Restorations, with other works to included a bare metal respray, a new K27 turbo, a gearbox rebuild, SS heat exchangers, oil tubes, a full brake rebuild with new pistons and seals at Pro Calipers and the last major bill came to some £6,400. The Porsche embossed wallet contains the handbooks and service book whilst the history file is filled with receipts and the car comes complete with its V5C, toolkit, a new headlining and an advisory-free MOT Certificate valid until 14th March 2025.Regretfully offered to auction due to advancing years, the odometer reading was 67,090 miles at the time of cataloguing and our vendor has generously included the private registration number in the sale.Specification Make: PORSCHE Model: 911 Year: 1985 Chassis Number: WP0ZZZ93ZGS000167 Registration Number: 0SU 930 Transmission: Manual Engine Number: 67G00125 Drive Side: Right-hand Drive Odometer Reading: 67200 Miles Make: RHD Interior Colour: Blue LeatherClick here for more details and images
Only 75 examples were ever made for the UK-market and these delightful drivers' cars are seemingly undervalued given their desirable status as the ultimate 924. Volkswagen's decision not to proceed with their designed-by-Porsche 914 replacement led to the latter taking on the project themselves. Launched in November 1975, the resulting 924 drew heavily on Volkswagen/Audi components: the 2-litre, four-cylinder, overhead-camshaft engine being a development of the Audi 100's, and the 4-speed transaxle a VW unit. A 5-speed Porsche-designed gearbox and improvements to the suspension were early developments and in 1978 came the first truly high-performance 924 - the Turbo. The latter's extra 45bhp raised the top speed to around 150mph and this figure would be further improved upon by the 924 Carrera GT. A road model with competition potential, the luxuriously equipped Carrera GT was launched at the 1979 Frankfurt Show. Easily distinguishable from lesser 924s by virtue of its bonnet air intake and widened wheel arches, the Carrera GT was built in limited numbers - only 406 were made - 400 cars being the minimum requirement to gain homologation for rallying and 'Group 4' events. The standard version came with 210bhp but this could be boosted to well over 300bhp for racing. Three cars were entered by the works in the 1980 Le Mans 24-Hour Race, finishing sixth, 12th and 13th.Offered here is a UK-supplied 924 Carrera GT sold by Maltin Car Concessionaires Ltd in February 1981, its first owners having specified the C-16 (UK-spec) GT in Guards Red with a black leatherette and black/red pinstripe interior. Options included headlamp washers, electric door mirrors, rear window wiper, sport steering wheel, sport shocks, electric windows, 911-type forged alloy wheels and air-conditioning.On offer from a private Collection of landmark Porsches from all eras, our knowledgeable vendor sourced this example from a specialist dealer in 2015 to form part of his garage. Since 2015, it has been correctly dry-stored and maintained impeccably by highly regarded marque specialists, Autofarm. Within the extensive history file are invoices that outline significant investment for works that appear to amount to a mechanical refresh. The beautifully presented history file includes a copy of the original factory spec, complete ownership history, MOTs dating back to 1985, tax discs, a wealth of invoices for maintenance over the years, the book pack including the original service book, current V5C and various other documents. This rare and exciting Porsche is presented to auction absolutely up to date, having just been checked over and serviced by Autofarm on 28th June 2024 with a fresh MOT valid until July 2025. This is a great opportunity to take ownership of a rarely seen Porsche that is guaranteed to attract all the right attention at any classic car event.Specification Make: PORSCHE Model: 924 Year: 1981 Chassis Number: WP0ZZZ93ZBN700247 Registration Number: AGT 639W Transmission: Manual Engine Number: 31500263 Odometer Reading: 69000 Miles Make: Interior Colour: BlackClick here for more details and images
**Saleroom announcement** Please note the paint is Platinum Diamond not Bronze Metallic A rare and sought after right-hand drive UK 3-litre Carrera Sport model with long family ownership - lots of potential! Introduced in September 1975 for the 1976 model year with production only running until 1977, the interesting Carrera 3.0 is rightly regarded as somewhat of a special and rare model amongst the impact-bumper era, 911 model range.Following on after the MFI-engined Carrera 2.7, the 3.0 Carrera heralded the adoption of the newly developed Bosch K-Jetronic CIS fuel-injection engine. This torque-rich, smooth and free-revving 3-litre engine, with a distinctive ‘cam' effect from 4,000rpm, produced 200bhp and was effectively a naturally aspirated version of the 930 Turbo's drivetrain.During its short two year life span, only 3,687 cars were built - a tiny amount compared to nearly 58,000 911 SCs and 76,500 3.2 Carreras produced. Of these, 2,564 were Coupés and 1,123 were Targas with only around 1,064 Coupés being manufactured in right-hand drive. Very few right-hand drive cars reached the UK and with just a two-year production run, only 121 Carrera 3.0 Coupés are verified by their chassis numbers with Porsche Club GB.Have a read of this article from Porsche experts Elferspot about the 3.0 Carrera: https://www.elferspot.com/en/magazin/buyers-guide-porsche-911-carrera-3-0/The car presented here is a 1977 Porsche 911 3.0 Carrera Sport Coupé in distinctive Bronze Metallic, a special-order paint, over a tan and tartan interior with original Recaro sports seats. It's a UK-supplied, 5-speed, matching-numbers car and was specified with electric windows and sunroof. This striking sports-car was originally supplied on 7th February 1977 via Official Porsche Centre Parker & Parker Ltd of Longpool, Kendal in Cumbria, and sold to a customer in Blackburn. It then passed through a few owners, before being bought in October 1982 by Mr Edwards of Pockley, York; he subsequently sold it, in September 1983, to our vendor’s father (but registered the car in his wife’s name); remarkably, it has been in the care of his family ever since (ownership passing to our vendor in 2014). By 2013 and due in part to the father’s declining health, the car had slumbered for several years in the garage of the family home. It an attempt to get the car ‘back on its feet’, father and son instructed Porsche specialists, Gantspeed Engineering Ltd, to carry out an extensive mechanical refurbishment. This included an engine rebuild (which retains its distinctive 5-blade cooling fan, as opposed to the newer 11-blade version), transmission overhaul and other work, totalling some £35,000 (invoices in file). The car was driven and enjoyed after being run-in but, due to other commitments, it ended up back in the garage, where it again has sat unused for a number of years. Whilst being worked on, the sills, floors and kidney bowls were all inspected and deemed in good shape, but the paintwork (believed to be original) is in need of some TLC, plus some areas of the trim likewise (the missing Porsche bonnet badge does come with the car though). With much originality throughout, the factory interior has held up especially well, indeed, with a bit of attention and expenditure, this could quite easily be a top-top 3.0, with long diligent ownership, much paperwork and its original book pack (mislaid at the time of writing) to accompany it.As one of the rarest UK-market production Porsches, this wholesome example represents good value against the 930 Turbo and is the smart choice for those who respect history, rarity and originality.SpecificationMake: PORSCHEModel: 911 3.0 CARRERA SPORT COUPÉYear: 1977Chassis Number: 9117600619Registration Number: VEC 84RTransmission: Manual Engine Number: 6670828 Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 76528 MilesMake: RHDClick here for more details and images
