A George III silver two-handled tray, by John Mewburn, London 1798, oval form, reeded border and scroll handles, the centre with engraved bright-cut decoration, engraved with a central cartouche and crest, length handle to handle 51.8cm, approx. weight 45oz. The crest is recorded for Bridg(e)man of Suffolk and other families.
A George III silver two-handled tray, by Timothy Renou, London 1797, oval form, gadroon border and handles, engraved decoration, the centre with an armorial within a ribbon tied cartouche, length handle to handle 53.3cm, approx. weight 50oz. The arms are engraved for the marriage of George Shiffner, (1762-1842), so of the MP for Minehead and grandson of the Governor of Bengal, to Mary Bridger, an heiress to a Sussex estate. George Shiffner was created a baronet in 1818, evidently succeeding to his wife`s estate at Combe, Sussex.

A pair of George II Irish silver salvers, by Robert Calderwood, Dublin circa 1740, circular form, the border with masks, shells and foliate scroll motifs, the centre engraved with an armorial within a foliate cartouche, on three scroll feet terminating in pads, scratch initialled to underside `28-7` and `28-10`, diameter 27.5cm, approx. weight 55oz. (2) Provenance: purchased from Bonhams, Knightsbridge, Fine Silver, 11 March 1997, lot 271. The arms are those of Carr of Dublin, impaling Gifford quartering (?) Redmond.
An 18th century silver mounted tortoiseshell snuff box, unmarked, circa 1740, shaped oval form, the hinged cover with overlay of a courting couple in a classical landscape, the sides with birds and foliate motifs, and an inscribed cartouche, length 7.8cm. Purchased from King and Chasemore 12 December 1978.

A fine and rare early 18th century pair cased gold quarter repeating pocket watch, numbered 452 , circa 1718, the gilt full plate verge movement with turned cylindrical pillars, the mask head acanthus scroll pierced and engraved balance cock with silvered regulation, and diamond endstone, signed George Graham, London and numbered 452 ,the polished hammers striking on an internal bell, the engraved and shaded dial with Roman numerals and Arabic five minute divisions, central scroll cartouches signed Geo, Graham, London , and gilt hands, the gold inner case with central mask head cartouche and dragon and grotesque scroll sounds frets, the outer case with pierced foliate interlaced guilloche bezels with rose cut diamond push thumb piece Provenance: Private collection acquired at Sotheby s in 1978. Born in 1673 George Graham was one of the most eminent of English watch makers. Apprenticed to Thomas Tompion in 1688, he was made free of the Clockmakers Company in 1695, eventually becoming Master in 1722. After completing his apprenticeship he became Tompion s assistant in 1696 and partner circa 1711-1713 before succeeding him after his death. Graham is recorded as using verge escapements in his watches up until circa 1725/26 when he began using cylinder escapements. Of the watches that have come to light in the relative recent past recorded by Graham, the last verge movement is recorded as numbering 5175, with the earliest cylinder movement being number 5182. Graham died in 1751 and is buried alongside Tompion in Westminster Abbey and examples of his work can be found in most major public horological collections. 5cm diameter The movement and apparantly in good condition commensurate with age, the dial of later date and in good condition, the inner and outer cases with some very minor blemishes, the outer case with some very small dents to the rear. A George III ormolu mounted mahogany Bracket Clock signed John Taylor, London, the rectangular case with swept caddy top with applied floriate swag decoration decoration surmounted by a flambe urn finial flanked by scrolling side pieces, the chamfered corners with caryatid and scroll and floral pendant mounts surmounted by floriate acorn finials, the sides with drop oval handles above foliate C scroll rectangular sound frets, on a moulded plinth base with applied winged cartouche cast apron mounts on acanthus scroll feet, the seven and half inch brass arched dial with rococo spandrels, silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with single date aperture, strike/silent subsidiary to the arch, matted centre with recessed signed silvered cartouche and pierced steel hands, the twin gut fusee movement with foliate scroll and floral basket engraved backplate, the verge escapement striking on a bell, with repeater cord 64cm high, 34cm wide, 25cm deep approximately In good original condition commensurate with age, the movement untested but appearing to be in good original condition, the repeater cord now broken. A double fusee bracket clock, the ebonised case having ormolu urn finials, the movement having three hammers striking on two bells, the arched dial having silvered chapter ring and date aperture, the chapter ring inscribed Jones, Chester and the backplate inscribed John Jones, Chester within an armorial cartouche. Height 38cms.
