WWI Casualty Victory Medal (24306 PTE S Austin W. York R), Silver War Badge, cartwheel penny (highly polished). Private Sam Austin joined the Prince of Wales Own (West Yorkshire) Regiment in early December 1915, he was attached to 10 Battalion and was deployed overseas to France in August 1916. He fought in the Battle of the Somme and suffered from an infection of trench foot, he was evacuated back to Britain in November 1916 and was finally discharged from the Army in November 1917.

A coin collection comprising an album of British pre decimal coins, mostly dating between 1920 and 1967 as taken from circulation and arranged by denomination and date, together with some containers of loose similar coins and a few other items. The album holds 19 farthings of various dates, a complete set of the thirty (30) brass threepences, nine (9) silver threepences, 27 silver sixpences and a full run of later cupronickel sixpences, Scottish shillings from 1938 to 1966 but missing 1947, a complete run of English shillings 1920-1966 with some duplicates, a fairly complete run of florins 1920 to 1967, eleven (11) silver half crowns and a number of later cupronickel half crowns, a 1937 crown and a few later cupronickel crowns, some old large ten pence coins, and a Mexico silver 25 peso 1968. The various containers hold some 0.500 fine silver coins including about thirty (30) florins, about thirty (30) shillings, about 55 sixpences and about 45 half crowns mostly of George V; brass threepences including about 230 mixed and 100 uncirculated 1966 and 1967; cupronickel coins which include 81 Churchill crowns 1967, a few other crowns, half crowns, sixpences including about 50 uncirculated dated 1967, and ten uncirculated florins 1967; and a number of Edward VII and worn Victorian pennies and halfpennies. There are also 39 introductory decimal coin sets from 1971 in the original blue plastic folders, a US silver dollar 1879, a cartwheel penny 1797 about fair, three (3) silver proof crowns 1972 cased with certificates, two (2) silver proof £5 crowns 2002 cased with certificates, three British proof sets 1970 and a replica US Confederate $10 bill 1864.
A collection of mostly British older coins, comprising eleven (11) old halfpennies including 1694 poor, 1697, 1700, 1718, 1739 and 1752, fifteen (15) farthings up to Victoria including 1675, 1694 and 1720, a silver three halfpence 1843, sixpences 1758, 1787 and 1887, a shilling 1723, a contemporary copper forgery half crown 1818, three (3) half farthings, two cartwheel 1797 twopences both about good Fine, a threepence 1762 and about six (6) further silver threepences, two fair to poor Irish gun money shillings, five Roman bronze coins including four follis and a possible sestertius with a partial legend reading …AVREL ANTONINVS C… and a few other items.
A mostly British coin collection which includes both uncirculated coins in original packs, loose circulated coins in containers, and six albums of both circulated and essentially uncirculated coins. The packs include twelve (12) British brilliant uncirculated Royal Mint sets 1983 (2), 1984, 19861992, 1994 and 1995, a British Royal Mint proof set 1985, two (2) £5 crowns (1990 and 2002), a British Royal Mint 1989 £2 coin pair, a British Royal Mint silver £2 1986 brilliant uncirculated in 0.500 silver, a Germany brilliant uncirculated set 1980 (10 coins), a Malta brilliant uncirculated set 1972 (8 coins), and a Canada specimen coin set 1985 (6 coins). The loose coins in containers include British coins comprising about 20 farthings from 1902 onwards, 22 silver threepences mostly fair, two (2) silver crowns 1937 and a further 9 shillings face value in pre-1947 silver, about 20 decimal half pence, 70 decimal pence, 50 decimal two pence, 17 large 5 pence, 20 large 10 pence, 24 current 20 pence, 19 large 50 pence, nearly 50 round pounds, four (4) £2 all 1986, and eighteen (18) modern cupronickel crowns. The foreign material is very mixed loose change including about 110 g gross of silver coins. Two red albums contain a large quantity of British decimal coinage, including about 40 each of 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p and 20p coins all largely uncirculated, about sixty (60) 50-pence coins including definitive and commemoratives, about forty-five (45) round pound and a further few current £1, and about forty (40) £2 coins including definitive and commemoratives. A third red album contains more mixed minor foreign change and UK decimal coinage. A blue album contains British pre-decimal circulated coinage including 36 cupronickel shillings, two cartwheel pennies 1797 about fine, a worn half crown 1679, a half crown 1887 about very fine, a Maundy fourpence 1889 and a twopence 1679 both pierced, a little worn George III silver including a very worn illegible crown, some worn George II and George III coppers, and other items. Another blue album contains a fairly complete collection of British pre-decimal halfpennies and pennies 1902-1967 as taken from circulation (missing pennies include 1950 and 1951). A black album contains further British decimal coinage from half pence to £2, often uncirculated.
