Fronting a finely made eight-day spring driven movement with balance wheel lever escapement, striking the hours and half hours on a gong, fitted enamal alarm dial and signed to the back plate. fitted in original numbered and signed leather case 99.5cm high handle down The silver case is in very good condition, with no dents or splits, the hinged handle is slightly lopsided and will need straightening. The movement is ticking but the striking mechanism will need attention as it doesn't stop striking. The carrying case is original to the clock and in good condition other than the carrying handle has snapped.

A LATE 18TH CENTURY SWISS PENDULE D’OFFICIER QUARTER CHIMING CLOCK the well cast arched ormolu case with hinged handle and raised on furry lions paw feet, engine-turned hinged bezel enclosing an enamel dial with Roman numerals fronting an eight-day quarter striking/repeating movement on two bells, chain driven fusee going train and spring driven striking train, pull alarm mechanism and original cylinder escapement26cm high handle upThe case and gilding are in good condition with losses, the dial has very small hairline cracks at six o'clock. the movement is complete and working, ticking with strong action, chiming the quarters correctly. The hour strike will need some attention, it is going through the sequence on the hour with the rack moving to the correct hour but the hammer isn't moving. Extra images have been uploaded. The vacant hole to the side of the case is for a repeat cord which is present inside the case and does work correctly. The dial is original, hands have possibly been replaced. No key.

The case with figured panelled sides and profusely inlaid trunk door depicting owls, other birds and scrolling foliage with a centre brass framed lenticle, a matching box base and a moulded plinth. The 12-inch square brass dial with cast mask head spandrels signed silvered chapter ring with Roman hours and Arabic minute markings, matted centre with ringed winding holes, cut engraved date aperture and subsidiary seconds dial fronting a five pillar eight-day repeating movement with anchor escapement rack striking on a bell.220cm highThe clock does have its original caddy which is removable. The movement has been blocked up on the cheeks and in our opinion is not original to the case. The dial is original to the movement and looks to have been cleaned in recent years, and is in good working condition. The case again is in very nice condition with no losses. The base has been restored along the bottom approx 4 inches from the plinth. The plinth is also later. Comes with the original pendulum and lead weights.

U-Boot-Kapitän Paul König (1867 - 1933) - Erinnerungskreuz zum 9. Juli 1916 Eisen, die Kreuzarme beidseitig mit erhabenem Datum "9. JULI 1916", beidseitig im Zentrum reliefierte Medaillons aus Buntmetall, schauseitig das Profil Königs mit Umschrift "PAUL KÖNIG KAPITÄN / U-DEUTSCHLAND" und auf der Gegenseite die Ansicht des U-Bootes mit Umschrift "ZUR ERINNERUNG AN DIE ANKUNFT DES ERSTEN HANDELS U-BOOTES IN BALTIMORE / 9. JULI 1916". Gebrauchs- und Altersspuren. Anbei zwei originale Zeitungsartikel aus den 1930er Jahren. Breite des Kreuzes 72 mm, Gewicht 280 g. Selten. Nach Ausbruch des Ersten Weltkrieges wurde König als Kapitänleutnant der Reserve in die Kaiserliche Marine eingezogen. Eingesetzt wurde er zunächst als Wachoffizier, später als 1. Offizier. Ab Januar 1916 besuchte er die U-Boot-Schule, im Juni erhielt er das Kommando über das erste Handels-U-Boot "U-Deutschland". Mit diesem U-Boot gelang ihm 1916 eine Fahrt in die USA, die zu diesem Zeitpunkt noch nicht am Krieg beteiligt waren. Das als Ballast dienende Eisen wurde zu den vorliegenden Erinnerungskreuzen umgearbeitet, die aber aufgrund des Kriegseintrittes der USA nur in wenigen Exemplaren von König nach Deutschland gebracht werden konnten. König führte 1917 bis Kriegsende eine Gruppe von Sperrbrechern und war nach Kriegsende in der Marineleitung tätig. He was initially deployed as officer in charge of the watch, later as chief mate. In January 1916 he entered submarine school, and in June he became the commander of the "U-Deutschland", the first merchant submarine, taking it on a successful voyage to the United States in 1916, which at that time was not yet involved in the war. The iron used as ballast was reworked into commemorative crosses, but König was not able to bring a large quantity of them to Germany because the United States had entered the war in the meantime.
