MICHAEL AYRTON [1921-75]. Self Portrait and Minotaur [Personal Janus], 1970. bronze, edition of 9 [artist's cast - marked 0/0]. 35 cm high. Provenance: Elisabeth Ayrton [the artist's wife], c.1986; private collection, UK. This is Ayrton's best self portrait sculpture in our opinion - illustrated on the back cover of the Michael Ayrton biography by Dr Justine Hopkins [Andre Deutsch]. The Tate Gallery collection includes 26 of Ayrton's artworks, but no sculpture as good as this. [very good condition]. Buyers premium of 20% + VAT is payable.

Provenance: the artist; private collection, USA. Baskin is a major international artist included in most of the best museum collections - Tate Gallery and MOMA [New York]. [very good condition]. GEOFFREY CLARKE R.A. [1924-2014]. Tankard, 1969. silver, probably only 2 cast. signed GC underneath + silver stamps [solid silver]. 9.7 cm high. Provenance: the artist; private collection, UK Literature: 'Geoffrey Clarke - Sculptor', catalogue raisonne, J LeGrove, Lund Humphries,2017, p.141, pl.S409.19. One of a series of 40 different tankards produced for the University of Lancaster collection - mostly unique, but Clarke cast a second one of a few. This is the first of these Tankards we have ever seen on the market. [very good condition - the silver is toned]. Buyers premium of 20% + Vat is payable.
PETER THURSBY [1930-2011]. Sea Creature, 1963. bronze, unique, cast by Morris Singer Foundry. 30 cm high. Exhibited: Marjorie Parr Gallery, London, one-man exhibition, 1964; Royal West of England Academy of Art, one-man exhibition, 1966. Provenance: private collection, UK. This series of unique bronzes [others include 'Rook', 'Beast', 'Creature Form', etc.] are what first attracted Marjorie Parr to Thursby's sculpture and are probably his most important sculptures. [very good condition - a few green deposits etc. - easily cleaned]. Buyers premium of 20% + Vat is payable.
