A Castle Hedingham pottery 'The Essex Jug', dated 1891, decorated in relief with roundels depicting Grecian scenes and applied with crests and shields, in buff colours on a mottled brown ground, incised to the foot and signed to the base Edward Bingham, Castle Hedingham, with castle pad mark, 35cm high. This collection is the product of over twenty years of collecting amassed by a local private collector. As a keen local historian she was involved in the Halstead and District Local History Society and co-author of various local historical publications. As such she became attracted to the distinctive style and locality of this pottery. The collection includes a diverse selection of shapes and designs that were produced by this rather eccentric pottery in Essex. Having recently downsized, she felt it was time to let the collection pass on to the next generation. Comprising almost seventy pieces, it would appear that this is the largest collection of wares of Castle Hedingham Pottery by Edward Bingham to be offered on the market at auction for a number of years.Overall condition appears to be ok, with only tiny chips to the rim and foot, which are not easy to spot. Dirty.
