A simply incredible example with just 1,179 miles from new, family ownership and in truly amazing condition that needs to be seen to be appreciated. Back in 1999, if you wanted a back-to-basics roadster that was quick, handsome and had a stiff chassis with 50/50 weight distribution, you didn’t have too many options. The MX-5 wasn’t far off, but you could hardly call that quick – and the MG F was little-better.Before the S2000, roadsters generally came with scuttle shake – that awful vibration of the windscreen and dash when you hit a bump – and Honda’s motorsport engineers, who were tasked with building the S2000, were determined to eliminate this. The solution was the high 'X-bone' frame which, in conjunction with the steel monocoque chassis and body structure gave the S2000 levels of rigidity previously unheard of in open-top cars. There hadn't been a roadster with this level of focus on the driver since the Lotus Elise.The S2000's engine also set the Honda apart from the rest, producing 237bhp from a 2-litre block, impressive enough today, let alone back in 1999 and it did so without forced induction. Cutting-edge dynamics, a rev limit of 9,000rpm and the engine's position far back in the engine bay (almost front/mid-engined) meant that it had no real competition, no other sporting two-seaters could come close to its combination of speed, handling, brakes and good looks. The car was available in GT-spec which included headlight washers, traction control, PAS, CD and a factory hardtop.The S2000GT offered here is probably unrepeatable as it has covered an incredible 1,179 miles from new and presents as such. It's a UK-supplied, right-hand drive example finished in Nürburgring Blue Metallic with a matching hardtop, complemented by a blue convertible roof with a black leather interior. Equipment includes an electrically operated convertible roof (with stand and cover), heated rear window, air-con, radio CD player, electric windows and electrically adjustable door mirrors.Despite the incredibly low mileage, the service book has been stamped a remarkable seven times and accompanying the car are the owners manuals, service book, toolkit, MOTs and service invoices. The car has been garaged from new and this is clear to see from its spectacular condition, which needs to be seen to be appreciated.The Honda S2000 GT is becoming very collectible and quite right for such an involving sports car. Very well presented, UK-supplied, right-hand drive, 321bhp, S50-engined car with AC Schnitzer upgrades. Very much an oddball and all the better for it, the Z3M Coupé follows no model lineage and wasn't replaced when production ceased, but what a wonderful hiccup in the corporate product line this car was. The M Coupé housed the fabulous straight-six engine from the M3 in a smaller body based upon the two-seat Z3. There were three distinct iterations of the Z3M Coupe made for the UK-market over the model's short life. Until April 1999 the car was referred to as the S50 pre-facelift, between April 1999 and 2001 it's known as the S50 post-facelift, and between 2001 and 2002 it’s the S54 facelift car.The main distinguishing feature is the engine used. The S50-engined car (321bhp) was built between 1998 and 2001 using motive power from the E36 M3 with the later S54-engined model (325bhp) adopting the power unit from the E46 M3 which was manufactured between 2001 and 2002.Supplied new by Menzies Motors of Stirling in Estoril Blue with a two-tone blue/black leather interior with a contrasting black headlining, this S50-engined Z3M was first registered on New Years Day 1999. In addition to the normal specification, it benefits from many options and a few upgrades including a Harman Kardon stereo with a multi-disc CD player, air-conditioning, M Sport steering wheel, electric glass tilt sunroof, electric front mirrors and windows, heated front seats and side airbags, internal net luggage guard, retractable load cover and a battery master switch. Purchased by Ray Mallock in 2012 as a fun project and fully rebuilt by RML with only 1,000km since. Offered without Reserve. Named after the title character of the Beumarchais comic opera and meeting a ‘retro’ trend then sweeping Japan, the Nissan Figaro is a front-engined, front-wheel drive, two-door 2+2 convertible featuring smooth 1950s-inspired bodywork. Manufactured for the model year 1991, it was built by a Nissan special products group known as The Pike Factory and marketed in Japan at Nissan ‘Cherry Stores’. Based on the first-generation Nissan Micra K10 platform, the Figaro features a turbocharged 980cc engine, offering 75bhp @ 6,000rpm mated to a 3-speed automatic gearbox. Initially, a production run of only 8,000 units was planned, however demand was exceedingly high and after two increases in production schedules, a total of 20,073 Figaros were manufactured, all in right-hand drive as they were intended solely for the Japanese market. Even with the greatly increased production numbers, demand was so high that potential purchasers had to enter a lottery to win the chance to buy one. Only four colours were available, Topaz Mist, Emerald Green, Pale Aqua and Lapis Grey and all were fitted with leather seats, air conditioning and a CD Player. A ‘limited edition’ was available upgraded with passenger side baskets and cup holders. The Emerald Green example on offer here belongs to Ray Mallock, renowned former racing driver, respected engineer and Chairman of RML. Ray bought the car in 2012 and asked his team to strip and complete a ground-up rebuild of the Figaro to his exacting standards. Only 1,000km have been covered since then and it has always been kept in a heated garage. Excitingly offered without Reserve, many hours of work have been invested in this car by a world-renowned engineering company. The subject of an exacting 3-year restoration to create, arguably, a better-than-new car; over £50,000 and hundreds of hours invested by our ex-Ford Technician vendor. Simply remarkable! The car presented here is a 1985 Escort RS Turbo Custom Series 1 which has been the subject of a quite remarkable restoration, making it one of the most ‘as new’ (and improved) modern-classic Fords we have ever seen.The car's ownership continuity is well-documented, it being supplied via McCarthy Cars (Ford) of Croydon on the 18th July 1990 to owner Mr Oakley of Cockfosters; he subsequently sold it on, in late 1993/early 1994, to Mr Ramsey of Swanley, who kept it until the 14th June 1996, selling it to Mr Jeremy Palling (a close friend of our vendor’s) of Crawley. Mr Palling then dry-stored the car in his garage from August 2002 before selling it on the 27th April 2017 to our vendor who had coveted his friend’s RS Turbo for many years, it being the ‘poster car’ of his youth. He eagerly MOT’d and drove it for a short time, before becoming increasingly aware of just how special, solid and original an example it was – the ideal candidate, he concluded, for an uncompromised, no-item-too-small, money no object, all-in restoration! – and this is an understatement.He says: “The car needed to be like I was walking into a Ford showroom in 1985 to buy it, only I wanted to take advantage of some of the automotive developments which have taken place in the 40 years since it was built. I would describe the car today as OEM-plus - how Ford would have produced it had modern-day materials been available.”And so it began, one of the most impressive projects we have seen, lasting over 3 years (concluding in July 2024) and with over £50,000 invested, the car is easily one of the best RS Turbos we have offered for sale. Our vendor continues: "I had planned a full, total and no expense spared restoration of every component and began sourcing and collecting new old stock Ford parts. Having had plenty of these RS Turbos when I was younger, and having carried out my apprenticeship at Hancock Ford in Horsham (formerly Gilbert Rice from 1991 to 1995), I knew these cars inside out.”He says: “By the 19th March 2021 the time had come to commence the restoration. I took the car to my home workshop and commenced the strip down. The car did not look to have been ‘got at’ much in previous years and you could tell that this was the first time many areas of the car had been apart or touched since it was built in 1985. I photographically documented every part coming off the car as I wanted the rebuild to be factory-correct right down to every clip, nut, bolt and screw. The complete, photographic, documented restoration was completed in July 2024.Rather than zero the mileage at this point, which I feel ‘muddies the waters’ somewhat, I have put together these history files to demonstrate the cars ‘as new’ condition at this date and also provide this vital information to future custodians.
