Chad Valley - An unmarked golden mohair teddy bear believed to be a 1920's Chad Valley 'Smiler' bear. Standing approximately 46cms in height, the jointed bear has amber and black glass eyes with a horizontally stitched brown nose with upward stitch at either end and smiling mouth on shaven muzzle. The bear also growls. The bear has brown linen pads with brown claw stitching. The bear has some stitching to its back and has some areas of wear but overall appears to be in Good condition, and wears a chain necklace with charms. The bear also comes with a tube with pen writing that states 'Smilers Old Growl Box 1919'.

A Chiltern teddy bear, 1930s, teddy bear of golden mohair, with slight hump, swivel head and jointed limbs, glass eyes with big black pupils, black-stitched nose, mouth, and claws, and brown cloth pads, wood wool filling, with operational tilt growler, a little threadbare in places, holes in pads (and crude stitched repairs to hand pads), height 66cm (26ins), together with 15 other teddy bears, mid-later 20th century, including one with Chad Valley label, another with zippered compartment, and a few with working growlers, various sizes and condition, plus a Schuco Bigo Bello DachshundQty: (17)
Lot 226
Chad Valley - A collection of predominately vintage soft toys, including bears and dogs. The lot comprises of four bears, two dogs and a blue plastic figure of a cat.The larger bear in mohair, measures approximately 34 cms in height is a Chad Valley 'Hygienic Toys' with a part worn label to torso in white with blue lettering. One of its jointed legs is stiff, and is missing both of its eyes. There is baldness to the muzzle which is outlined in red thread and the black nose is vertically stitched. There are bald patches to mohair, plus tears to felt paws, and one stitched paw is torn revealing padded stuffing. There is a label to right foot but pen marks have made the Chad Valley mark unrecognisable. The bear wearing a scarf is mohair and is unmarked, and has a humped back. and presser to torso. The bear measures approximately 28 cms in height, with jointed head and legs. The scarf is labelled 'Liberty of London'. It has stitching to ears (one of which is loose) and several bald patches. The bear has glass eyes and the belly is probably stuffed with straw, the arms plus one leg are beaded (other leg is possibly straw filled). The bear has stitched claws to paws and fragments of stitching remain to feet, which appear to have card inserts. The muzzle appears shaven and has a black vertically stitched nose. The pair of dogs are both unmarked. One is golden measuring approximately 22 cms in height, with black ears and tail, vertically stitched black nose, missing one eye. There is stitching to felt pad paws and holes revealing straw padding. The blond coloured dog has brown patches to face black ears and tail, with bald nose and red protruding tongue. There is stitching to one of the front legs and bald patches throughout. (extra images added)
