Lot 214

1995 BMW M3 Coupé Transmission: manualMileage:74000The E36 was BMW’s third generation of the popular executive car range. This variant was created to replace the, already successful, E30 chassis platform and benefited from a multilink rear suspension set-up that improved handling characteristics dramatically. This particular car was the flagship M3 variant offered in a bright Hellrot paint with the sought after Alcantara and cloth 'Vader' interior. The M3 was designed to give the driver a more focused and performance orientated driving experience. Powered by a high revving 3.0 litre engine producing an impressive 286bhp, the M3 had heaps of performance within a car that could be used every day. The M3 also benefited from improved brakes and a limited slip differential to separate it from the rest of the BMW range. The M3’s potential, affordable price tag and usability, propelled the car to automotive superstardom making it the benchmark coupé that other manufactures aim to compete with. The skyrocketing residual values of the earlier generation M3’s has had a halo effect on the rest of the BMW range over the last few years, meaning well maintained examples of the E36 are at an all-time high, making them highly desirable to any budding driver and collector looking for a fun vehicle to invest in.Specified from new with a five-speed manual gearbox, limited slip differential, E36 M3 'Vader' seats, electric sunroof, mirrors and windows and 'EVO' boot spoiler. Impressive provenance and history (with many stamps in the book), including the original driver’s manual, stamped maintenance book and black BMW wallet are found in the comprehensive history file accompanying this car. This is a stunning example of a truly eye-catching car which is certainly a future benchmark classic; certainly, one of the best we have had for sale for a long time and it even comes with its original toolkit!Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale. Accordingly, buyers are on notice that each vehicle is offered ‘as is/as seen’ subject to the Terms and Conditions for the auction. Buyers are advised to inspect the vehicle in person or use a professional to carry out this service. Historics will not entertain disputes over descriptions.

King George VI and Queen Elizabeth signed 1891 1971 Visitors Book. From Howard & Bullough, Textile Manufacturers of Accrington, Lancashire. A large original visitors book used at their works in Accrington, starting in 1891 (the first entry being members of the Bullough family), the last in 1971. In all, well over 10, 000 signatures contained on the 300 pages which have entries. Just over half of the book has been used, the remainder being blank. Among the more famous signatures are King George VI and Queen Elizabeth [later styled the Queen Mother] during a visit to the factory on March 8th 1945. There are also signatures of their party including Cynthia Spencer [Lady Diana Spencer's grandmother] and Peter Townsend. The factory was used during the second world war for armament and aircraft production, and there are a number of signatures from a visit by the Ministry of Aircraft Production on August 4th 1944 including Sir Safford Cripps, Sir John Buchanan and A. M. R. Topham. During the wartime period there are various signatures of army, navy and R. A. F. personnel scattered throughout, one notable signature being that of Bruce Grimston D. F. C. on May 16th 1941 he would later be killed in action in July 1944. Throughout the book there are numerous visits by foreign delegations and organisations two Russian members of these include Capt. Levkovitch from the Russian Inspector of Artillery in Petrograd (during 1915) and later, Nikolai Patolichev. Other signatures include William Burdett Coutts M. P., one of the first in the book. What strikes you looking through is the variety of countries the visitors came from particularly so from Russia, India, Brazil, Far East and Scandinavia. The book has been heavily water stained, with some pages loose, torn or bearing old repairs. The photographs should hopefully show the varying degrees of this. Bound in the original black Morocco, though the hinges are broken and some joints split. Overall size approx. 270x430x77mm. Due to the weight, only available for sale in the United Kingdom. Howard & Bullough were a firm of textile machine manufacturers in Accrington, Lancashire, and in the 1860's led the world in supplying power looms. The firm was founded by John Bullough in 1851, after he had perfected a self-acting temple on his handloom. They originally concentrated on looms, but eventually expanded to manufacture the complete range of machinery used in cotton mills. At its peak, the Glebe works dominated the town, employing almost 6000 workers and covered an area of 52 acres. Seventy five per cent of the company's production was exported. Book was taken apart, repaired and rebound in Nov 2015 by John Richardson of Leamington Spa for £200. Good condition. All autographs come with a Certificate of Authenticity. We combine postage on multiple winning lots and can ship worldwide. UK postage from £4.99, EU from £6.99, Rest of World from £8.99

Nikos Hadjikyriakos-Ghika (Greek, 1906-1994)Countryside/ Les derniers rayons du soleil inscrit avec dédicace 'For Peter en souvenir of Edipsos with all my love Nico./ Barbaras Birthday Feb.22.1960.' (au verso) ink et gouache sur papier46 x 66cm (18 1/8 x 26in).Peint en 1958.inscribed with dedication (on the reverse) ink and gouache on paperFootnotes:ProvenanceThe artist's collection. A gift from the artist to Lady Nöel Evelyn 'Peter' Norton, London.Thence by descent to the present owner. ExposéNew York, Alexander Iolas Gallery (as per label on the reverse). LittératureGhika, Paintings, Drawings, Sculpture, C. Zervos, S. Spender, P. Leigh Fermor ed., Lund Humphries editions, London 1964, no. 12 (listed and illustrated).Drawing from indigenous sources, ranging from icon painting to folk art and Karaghiozi shadow-puppet theatre, Ghika formulated a distinctive artistic premise related to post-cubist explorations. Moreover, the tender convolutions and fragile gestures so evident here allude to the mystical world of oriental calligraphy and its constant flow of brush and pen. In 1958, the year he painted Countryside, the artist visited the USA at the invitation of the State Department and returned to Greece by way of the Far East. As noted by art critic S. Spender, the drawings of India and Japan Ghika did in 1958 are of particular importance because they established a connection between far-eastern art and Ghika's sensibility which was partly Oriental.'1 1 S. Spender, 'Ghika' in Ghika, Paintings, Drawings, Sculpture, Boston Book and Art Shop, Boston 1965, p. 23.Puisant dans des sources indigènes, qui vont de la peinture d'icônes jusqu'à l'art naïf et au théâtre d'ombres de Karaghiozi, Ghika a formulé un postulat artistique distinctif, relié à des explorations post-cubistes. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com

'Engonopoulos is a dedicated coloriste, adhering to a long and rich Greek tradition that goes way back to the Homeric epics.'2 Errieti Engonopoulou, the artist's daughter, holds that 'for him each colour has its own value, its own voice'3, much the same way as in Byzantine art, which Engonopoulos always considered an art form Greeks closely relate to. The three phantom-like mannequin figures holding a lamp, a book and a statuette, introduce us to an enigmatic world of poetic metaphor, apparently glorifying an unknown heroic or epic event that echoes the didactic description of Byzantine icon painting and the high rhetoric of the artist's beloved teacher C. Parthenis.4 Elegant, athletic and full of youthful virility, the three scholiasts chant the glory and beauty of the human figure. As noted by Athens National Gallery Director M. Lambraki-Plaka, 'Engonopoulos's figures may draw their origin from Giorgio de Chirico but they are unmistakably Greek, reminiscent of the Minoans immortalised on the Knossos frescoes and the early kouroi, while alluding to the tall and slender formula of the Byzantine saints also evident in El Greco's work.'5 Likewise, Professor D. Papastamos notes that 'Engonopoulos's heroes are not 'disquieted'; on the contrary they fully experience an everyday reality still bound with tradition and eastern myths.'6 The visual act takes place in shallow, stage-like indoor space, accentuating the sense of theatricality which is a key element of Engonopoulos's work. As noted by art historian P. Rigopoulou, the artist never hesitated to explore the correlations between theatrical and pictorial space and introduce the theatrical into his painting.7 'The lack of vast open spaces and supernatural landscapes whose sheer size nullifies the human scale is a typically Greek element. Standing in front of a fastened curtain and illuminated by a circular glow reminiscent of a theatrical spotlight, the three protagonists of this 1958 scene recall a text by Engonopoulos written a few years later: 'The curtain is drawn, and under the stage lights, with the most harmonious moves, in a coordinated whole, amidst colours and music, every human dream comes alive, flooding the soul with guileless joy, far from the obligations and obstacles of grim reality.'8 1 S. Engonopoulos, Works in Prose [in Greek], Ypsilon editions, Athens 1987, p. 30.Baignée dans une atmosphère de clarté et de lueurs éclatantes, cette exquise peinture est reconnue dans l'ouvrage The Greek Painters (publié par les éditions Melissa) comme l'un des plus beaux exemples attestant de la parfaite maîtrise de la couleur qui caractérise l'artiste. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com

A Chad Valley 1930s jointed Golly, made of velvet with mohair wig and painted smile --13½in. (34.5cm.) high (missing jacket); a Dean's Rag Book Hetty the Help Yourself doll with Government Evacuation Scheme tag; a printed Dean's doll; a Planes of the RAF sticky-back brass recognition stickers with leaflet; a Lakehurst Dirigible dexterity game; and other 2nd WW items in suitcase. These items are listed on the basis they are illustrative of by a gone culture in which there were different social norms. We understand the potential controversy surrounding this type of item but believe that providing transparent information about historical context fosters greater understanding of our complex cultural history. Originally handmade by mothers in Africa for their children from old fabric and cloth, the golly doll was adopted as the mascot and trademark for the Robertson's confectionery brand around 1910 after the company's founder John Robertson visited the US and noticed children playing with them. Robertson's Gollies have been collected by people across the UK and around the world for generations but garnered a contentious image in the 1980s because of links to racism. The trademark was removed from Robertson's branding in 2001.

Roland-Garros: French Open Poster 2021 signed by the artist Jean Claracq with 2 beautifully illustrated books Au centre le court Philippe Chatrier & Trophies Your chance to bid for a unique item of tennis memorabilia, donated by La Fédération française de tennis (FFT) and signed by the artist, capturing one of the most important new features at this year’s tournament, the introduction of night sessions. The view from the Fond des Princes, an area located on the outer edge of the stadium, served as inspiration for Jean Claracq. Instead of choosing one of the show courts, he decided to shine the spotlight on one of the lower profile courts. He was touched by the multiple challenges at stake on the smaller courts, where the players’ ambitions and hopes are displayed in such a raw way, far away from the media spotlight. This multi-faceted piece also seems to evoke the players’ solitude. The stunning poster is accompanied by 2 beautifully illustrated books from Les Carnets de Roland-Garros collection, reflecting the spirit of the stadium, whilst inviting you to discover the unique stories that make the Parisian Grand Slam so special Au centre le court Philippe Chatrier 106 pages with illustrations: Every year, the Porte d'Auteuil becomes a hive of activity for three weeks. Roland-Garros stadium throws open its gates and the second Grand Slam of the year gets everyone's adrenaline pumping. At the epicentre of the action is the beating heart of the stadium, Philippe-Chatrier Court. This book invites readers to dive into the history of this legendary court, which stands the test of time thanks to its players, its spectators, its groundsmen and everyone whose passion brings it to life every year. Roland-Garros: French Open Poster 2020 signed by the artist Pierre Seinturier with 2 beautifully illustrated books Au centre le court Philippe Chatrier & Trophies Your chance to bid for a unique item of tennis memorabilia, donated by La Fédération française de tennis (FFT) and signed by the artist, shining the spotlight on the people who work in the shadows of the tournament; the craftsmen of the red clay, in a poster bursting with intensity. Pierre Seinturier’s original piece is a poignant depiction of the courts being prepared at Roland-Garros, portraying the moment before the players step out on court as a dramatic and artistic event in its own right. The poster features vegetation in the foreground, which frames the actions of the grounds-men who work every day to prepare the red clay. The clay symbolises Roland-Garros. It is the only Grand Slam tournament to be held on this surface, so I had to include it in my piece. The court grounds-men also take centre stage. The president of the FFT calls them terriens. It’s a great nickname, very poetic. This poster evokes the preparation of the courts, just before the start of the matches, which are often amazing to watch. It was quite natural for me because I have always created paintings or drawings that depict the moments just before the action. These ‘terriens’, who we only see for a few seconds on television, play a vital role in the tournament,” explains the artist Pierre Seinturier. This stunning poster is accompanied by 2 beautifully illustrated books from Les Carnets de Roland-Garros collection, reflecting the spirit of the stadium, whilst inviting you to discover the unique stories that make the Parisian Grand Slam so special Au centre le court Philippe Chatrier 106 pages with illustrations: Every year, the Porte d'Auteuil becomes a hive of activity for three weeks. Ca. 332 B.C, Ptolemaic Period. Egyptian. An ancient Egyptian blue glazed faience shroud wrapped mummiform ushabti wearing a plain tripartite wig and plaited divine beard. The wig is worn low on the forehead and the ears, which are fairly well modelled, protrude over the side lappets of the wig. The arms are crossed on the chest, and te hands protrude from the shroud to hold a pick and hoe in the right. The eyes are quite large and the nose is broad. The mouth sports a gentle smile, typical of the Late Period ushabtis. The figure stands against a dorsal pillal and upon a trapezoidal base. The Egyptians assumed even after getting to the afterlife that life would not be easy, so they took magical figures with them called shabtis to ask a servant to make their afterlife as easy and trouble-free as possible. The idea of shabtis first appeared as wax figures in the First Intermediate Period. These gradually moved onto figures formed of stone and wood in mummiform shape. By the time of the New Kingdom during the Reign of Thutmose IV these became more stylised and would carry agricultural tools to assist them plough the fields, bring in the harvest and fill in the water channels. These figures were an important object in the tombs of the deceased and by the time of the Third Intermediate Period, tombs would carry them in chests in large supplies. These shabtis would come alive on the command of the dead and were called upon with magic from the Book of the Dead. The Amasis Collection. Glenn Janes. Page 177. Pl. S-80051.The Amasis Collection no. English, c.1743, unsigned but by Cuff, the square solid mahogany plate with a rotating centre mounted to the front with a brass flange into which screws the main body of the microscope constructed of brass with leather covering, a drawer tube has a mount at the front onto which fits the Wilson-type screw barrel microscope, at the rear of the microscope is a single condenser lens in a brass frame and the adjustable mirror in a brass-bound frame, with a sharkskin covered case lined with green silk velvet with 6 objectives, handle for the Wilson microscope, talk box, tweezers, mahogany plate 20cm x 20cm.FootnotesAccording to Clay & Court, in their book, ‘The History of the microscope’ an identical instrument belonged to George the III[i] and formed part of the Frank Crisp Collection, which after Crisp's death, was sold at Stevens Auctions in 1925. The microscope was bought at the sale by the Science Museum and is now in their collections [ii].The Cuff microscope, now in the science museum collection, is described in great depth by Clay & Court on pages 215-217, of their book, and includes an image of an identical instrument that they refer to as ‘Cuff Solar, First Form’, Clay and Court go on to state “The Solar Microscope.-Cuff appears to have been the originator of this form of solar microscope in which the tube was fixed, and the motion of the sun in the Heavens was allowed for by adjusting the mirror. One of the original forms of solar microscopes of Cuff’s make is illustrated in fig 1.48. It is mounted on a mahogany plate which I about eight inches square….”.Clay and Court also allude to an original document held in the British Museum, dated 1743, in which Cuff claims “ I added a mirror to an ingenious suggestion of a friend who had introduced me to Dr. Leiberkuhn, and with the assistance of several Gentlemen of the greatest understanding and ability, I had been able to alter and improve it from time to time”.John Cuff (c. 1708 – c. 1772) was an important English scientific instrument maker during the 18th Century. Although he made all types of instruments today he is best known for his contribution to microscope design. In particular with his Solar or Camera Obscura microscope and his double microscope that became known as the ‘Cuff-type’.Unfortunately, Cuff was apparently not much of a businessman. Despite his ability, expertise, and patronage of the naturalist Henry Baker in 1750 he had to declare himself bankrupt [iii], just a year after, the main competitor of his, Benjamin Martin, opened a shop next door.[i] from Clay & Court s book ‘The History of the Microscope’, from the Preface.[ii] Science Museum South Kensington, London collection, inv.no. An Important 18th Century Cumming's Pattern Cutting Engine or Microtome,Possibly French, c.1770, unsigned, the body of the instrument is made of brass tube finished on the oustside with a black and mottled red fired enamel to simulate tortoiseshell, at the bottom is a lacquered brass end with a wheel engraved with a scale on a fine steel thread, as the wheel is turned the specimen is raised in front of the blade at the other end, the scale is marked against the brass stop next to the wheel, at the other end is the rotating elliptical blade, this is rotated by turning the polished lignum handle, two knurled wheel at the side are used to hold the blade in place and stop rotation, the other is used to hod the specimen push rod securely in the body of the instrument, the cutting engine comes in its original Fine red Moroccan leather-covered case lined to the inside with red chamois leather, in the case, there is the original shaped stone for sharpening the elliptical blade, a glass slide, a cut-glass bottle with a stopper and another similar but taller with a silver cap, the case 17.4cm wide Footnotes: The Cumming's Cutting Engine - The instrument that changed microscopy. In 1770 a book was published by John Hill (b.1714 – d.1755) on the structure of wood as examined under the microscope. In this book ‘The Construction of Timber from its Early Growth, Explained by the Microscope’, Hill illustrated finely cut sections of wood which were only made possible due to the recent invention of cutting engine or microtome designed and built by Alexander Cumming (ca.1743 – d.1814). This instrument allowed thin sections to be cut so that light could pass through enabling, for the first time, microscopists to see the cell structure of plants. This simple step revolutionised the use of the microscope into a serious scientific instrument. It was George Adams,, then, maker of scientific instruments to King George III, who before this pivotal moment had lamented that the interest in the microscope had waned, famously stating of microscopy “either satisfied with the discoveries already made … or tired by its own exertionsâ€, after Hill's book was published Adams went on to say “So important a subject soon revived the ardor for microscopic pursuits, which seems to have been increasing ever sinceâ€. From Hill’s book, it was stated that Mr. Cummings had made two or three of his cutting engines, the design was then passed to Ramsden who made them commercially, one of which resides today in the collection of the Oxford Science Museum. The Cumming's Pattern Cutting Engine proved difficult to use as keeping the curved blade sharp was a problem. It doesn't appear to have been a great commercial success with only a few instruments surviving today. However, the value of these sections that could be produced for microscopy was now realised and new microtomes were designed and produced by a number of scientific instrument makers. These instruments were easier to use and produced better results consigning the Cumming's Pattern Cutting Engine to history. The design of the instrument offered here is particularly interesting and worth considering. Unlike the existing English instrument by Ramsden this instrument appears to be French in construction: the box is very typically continental with the inside lined with red chamois leather; the instrument has some typically French features with the double knurling of the brass adjusting wheels; the way the lignum handle is turned suggests there may well be Dutch influence. As far as we are aware this is the first time a Cummings Cutting engine has ever been offered for sale at auction. JAMES BOND ‘THE SPY WHO LOVED ME’, 1977 – AN EARLY FILM TREATMENT BY RONALD HARDYAnearly mimeographed typescript of Ronald Hardy’s treatment for the screenplay, entitled The Spy Who Loved Me, Ronald Hardy, undated [but pre 5 Nov.1975], 126 pp. [p.121missing] in blue card covers fastened by two circularmetal clips, the cover with white paper typescript label annotated in black inkwith a small arrowhead symbol, 13 pages with annotations in both pencil andballpoint pen, mostly underlining, probably in Gilbert’s hand, giving emphasisto key elements in Hardy’s story; the plot centred on a Soviet threat whichtook the form of a sophisticated electronic tracking device which enabled thevillains to pinpoint and capture enemy nuclear submarines from any distance. Ronald Hardy came approximately second in line in the order of twelve different scriptwriters Cubby Broccoli employed to tackle the screenplay for The Spy Who Loved Me until he got the script he wanted.Hardy’s plot involved a Soviet threat of unprecedented danger to the Western World. The threat took the form of a device called ‘Neptune’ fitted to three small submarines and linked to a reconnaissance satellite which could then lock and hold onto enemies’ nuclear submarines at any distance. M sent 007 and two other 00s, 006 and 008 [the latter who set himself as an intense rival to Bond] to find and neutralise Neptune in the USSR without being detected.  The West had been tipped off about Neptune by a Russian double agent - beautiful prima ballerina Helen Andreyevna who danced for the Kirov State Ballet Company of Leningrad. Helen and Bond’s stories become intertwined with dramatic sequences involving skis and sleds in Kitzbuhel, Troikas in Leningrad, chases and amusing interludes with Bond’s discus-thrower KGB minder, Olga Gunk in Leningrad; undercover episodes on the Island of Kotlin in the Gulf of Finland,  and numerous fights, most notably in an airship above the sea with the main KGB foe Colonel Sukov, when the microfilm of Neptune’s plans obtained by the two Spy Lovers, and housed by Helen in a famous Faberge egg made for the Tsar, falls into the water, and the finale, a savage fight in Helsinki in a sauna room in the Hotel Finlandia-Royal, when 008, who’s been despatched by M to kill 007’s lover double-agent Andreyevna, tries to kill 007 telling Bond: ‘You said I had to kill you first’ 007 prevails over 008 - the mission is over. The story ends with the two Spy Lovers going their separate ways, Helen as a famous ballerina, could not go into hiding, and Bond admits he couldn’t protect her. Helen tells 007  “I love you my James... but I have to dance…So we must go our separate paths...One night I’ll look up from the stage and you’ll be there. You can throw me a rose. A red rose” . She leaves alone on the Stockholm ferry. Thus here, in Hardy’s treatment, the foundations were laid for a few key plot elements that were continued and developed throughout the later re-writes of the screenplay for The Spy Who Loved Me.ConditionReport: Overall good. Blue card cover with small area of paper loss on left hand margin and creased at corners.. A number of inside pages rubbed at corners, some corners folded Footnote: The Spy Who Loved Me (1977), the tenth in the Eon Productions official 007 series, initiated a number of records for the James Bond franchise. It was Cubby Broccoli’s first solo 007 venture without co-producer Harry Saltzman, and he was determined that it should become the biggest and best Bond yet.  From the outset, the film’s path to success was beset with numerous difficulties and the screenplay itself went through more adaptations and revisions than any production during the 40-year history of 007 on screen. Problems began with Ian Fleming’s source material for the film’s title. Like the movie, it was Fleming’s tenth Bond novel in order, however it represented a departure from Fleming’s usual 007 format in that it is told from the viewpoint of a young Englishwoman who only meets the famous spy in the last few chapters of the book. For this reason, Fleming never wanted this book to be sold as a film project. His estate, however, gave Broccoli permission to use the novel’s title only. The book and film do also share one significant common element – Jaws,  who is loosely based on Fleming’s villain, `Horror’, who had steel-capped teeth. Nevertheless, the screenplay for The Spy Who Loved Me is considered to be the first Bond film whose story is completely original. After a visit to Russia, Broccoli devised a plot for a  new story which suited the film’s title and focused on a beautiful Russian agent who falls in love with James Bond. It is said that twelve different screenwriters worked on fifteen separate drafts for the screenplay over a period of three years, in one of the most fiendishly complicated film pre-production processes in Eon’s history. Considering the quantity of different variants of the screenplay here in Lewis Gilbert’s personal film script archive, it appears that just over half of the fifteen screenplay versions are represented between lots 13-18.Looking through the different variations of treatments and screenplays for The Spy Who Loved Me, a large proportion of which are represented in this collection, in the words of film historian Steven Jay Rubin they : “…offer a textbook look at script development…the material is priceless, since it allows the reader to see how typical Bondian situations are workshopped…”Literature: RUBIN, Steven Jay Spy Who Loved Me ScriptWars in The James Bond Movie Encyclopaedia, Chicago Review Press Incorp.Chicago, 2021GILBERT, Lewis All My Flashbacks TheAutobiography of Lewis Gilbert, Sixty Years A Film Director, Reynolds &Hearn, London, 2010FIELD, Matthew & CHOWDHURY, Ajay SomeKind Of Hero, The Remarkable Story of The James Bond Films, CheltenhamGlouc., 2015The Spy Who Loved Me Script History www.M16-HQ.comwww.IMDB.comBellmans is grateful to Wallace and Hodgson for their assistance with cataloguing the Lewis Gilbert Film Script and Production Archive.

Registration No: B10 DGHChassis No: SCBZS00A3LCH32688MOT: July 202256,000 recorded miles and just 3 former keepersOffered with book pack, handbooks and service bookFinished in Royal Blue with Parchment hide leather interior This lovely looking example is finished in Royal Blue with Parchment hide complemented by blue piping with a sheepskin over rugs and has covered just c.56,000 miles in the hands of three former keepers. In the previous ownership for some twenty years, B10 DGH has clearly been well maintained, with 18 stamps (mostly main dealers) shown in the service record up to 53,000 miles. Offered with its book pack, handbooks and service book and a current MoT to 22nd July 2022, this comfortable and capable Mulsanne S rides on correct specification Avon Turbospeed tyres and is said to be “a superb example of this model”.Styled in-house by Austrian born Fritz Feller, the Bentley Mulsanne had somewhat less fussy lines than its T2 predecessor. Introduced in 1980, its greater road presence masked a larger glass area. While it looked suitably imposing from the outside, internally it proved pleasantly airy. Although, based on the Shadow/T2 floor plan, the Mulsanne offered considerable improvements in both ride and handling thanks to its new Girling automatic ride-height control and gas shock absorbers. Copious amounts of sound deadening combined with the finest quality upholstery kept intrusion from the 6.75-litre V8 engine and three-speed automatic transmission to a muted hush unless the model's full 120mph potential was explored. Driver inputs were minimised with power-assisted steering and disc brakes. Launched in October 1987, the Mulsanne 'S' benefited from firmer, more sporting suspension and a new centre console design (the latter feature donated by the Turbo R). Fitted with alloy wheels as standard, the new model gained quad headlamps in September 1988. Only in production for five years, a mere 909 standard wheelbase cars are thought to have been made. Registration No: Y957 CDS Chassis No: ZFFYT53C00125022 MOT: June 20221 of just 478 UK RHD cars to be fitted with the rarer six-speed manual gearboxFinished in stunning Argento Nurburgring with a navy blue leather interiorOnly 35,000 miles from newComprehensive service history and last cambelt change within 3000 miles‘The 360 is a devastating road car. It does everything you’d hope a Ferrari would but with such polish, precision and ease that you don’t have to think twice about unleashing all its performance. There is perhaps no other car yet made that combines so much raw emotion with so much technical finesse (Evo magazine, June 1999)’Introduced in 1999 as a replacement for the F355, the 360 was an entirely new design featuring an aluminium spaceframe chassis which was 40% stiffer and 28% lighter than the tubular steel arrangement of its predecessor. The revised bodywork resulted in downforce improving by a factor of four over the F355. Powered by a 3.6-litre V8 coupled to either a six-speed manual or F1 electrohydraulic manual transmission, the 360's lighter weight improved the 0-60 mph dash to just 4.2 seconds with a nominal top speed of over 180mph. In 2001, the spider version was introduced, the stiffness of the spaceframe being ideally suited to handle an open top. This was followed in 2003 by the ultimate incarnation - the 360 racing series inspired Challenge Stradale - featuring a number of weight saving and tuning modifications by the factory.First registered in July 2001, this manual ‘Spider’ was acquired by the vendor from his father-in-law earlier this year; a prolific figure in the classic car world and no stranger to the Ferrari marque. With significant documented service history, ‘Y957CDS’ is offered with the original Ferrari Certificate of Conformity and numerous receipts and bills for maintenance. Details show that the front suspension was overhauled in 2013 and that the cambelts and tensioners were most recently changed at 32,346 miles. There is a near continuous MOT history with thirteen old certificates within the documents file. The paint presents in very good condition with no significant blemishes or scuffs reported by the vendor - the wings are also embellished with the optional ‘Scuderia Ferrari’ shields. Weather protection is provided in the form of a black fabric convertible hood, which is in great shape, with no rips or tears, and the mechanism worked perfectly during our recent photography session. It rides on a set of factory-option OZ ‘Challenge Stradale’ alloy wheels, which were fitted recently and present in superb order with no damage or marks. The interior is finished in dark blue leather with contrasting stitching. The condition of the cabin reflects the low mileage, with minimal wear. There is slight rubbing to the steering wheel, but otherwise the buttons and controls all present very well and work as they should. The original Ferrari-branded stereo head unit has been replaced with a far more user-friendly contemporary Pioneer system. The most recent service work was carried out in July of this year at 35,700 miles and included air, oil and pollen filters, spark plugs and an oil change (using the recommended Shell Helix Ultra 5W-40). Accompanying the car is the original book pack, including the H.R. Owen stamped ‘Servizi Ferrari Direct Line’ booklet, and even the Ferrari Maglite torch. The leather-bound tool kit is also present and the vendor notes that numerous invoices detailing servicing and maintenance prior to his ownership are included in the comprehensive history file. This Ferrari 360 Spider is a thrilling open-top supercar, which benefits from a timeless factory specification. Even more aurally exciting than the Modena coupe thanks to being able to drop the roof to listen to the glorious V8 behind you; this is a well-maintained car that presents in superb condition throughout. It is now ready to be cherished and enjoyed on the road by a new owner, and would make a fine addition to any collection of Maranello’s finest.Footnote: For more information, please contact: Adam Sykes adam.sykes@handh.co.uk 07429600332
