A large Chinese lacquered bronze seated figure of Guanyin, on a separate lotus stand, her robes engraved with flowers and foliage, H. 35cmCONDITION: There is some occasional wear to the lacquer decoration on the face, hands, chest and feet, there is verdigris all over with some dusty grubbiness in places otherwise generally in good condition with no restoration, chips losses or cracks. Weight 8.23kg.
A Chinese lacquered bronze seated figure of Xi Wangmu, late Ming dynasty, holding a cloud in her left hand, indistinct label stating that the figure was a prize won by a soldier in the Belouchistan Volunteer Rifles, H. 38cm including later wood standCONDITION: There are extensive cracks running from the shoulder and chest down across the right arm of the figure and down the right leg at the front with some evidence of some old solder repairs around the area, there are some losses to the figures head dress and to two fingers on her right hand, there is also a later solder repair to the left side of the leg and robes, bears an on label underneath which has flaked away in places and is slightly difficult to read, the original lacquered decoration is flaking off in many areas and generally very grubby, the later wood stand has some splits along the joins of the block work.
Early 20th Century Costume, comprising a blue, white and black woven sleeveless dress with a V-neckline, A-line skirt with faux pleats and a matching fabric belt; a black fine machine lace type sheer dress with capped sleeves, scooped neckline and shaped hem; black silk Chinese cheongsam style sleeveless dress, embroidered with a dragon to one shoulder in bright coloured silk threads and trimmed with silvered metallic thread to the collar, sleeve holes and hem; Janet Colton Ltd black silk taffeta a-line skirt with a tiered design and black ruffle trims; cream paisley silk long sleeved jacket with button fastening and two patch pockets; silver lame long sleeved evening jacket, printed overall with pink roses and purple violets, peplum style waist (6) . CR - Sleeveless dress - slight staining under the arms and several loose threads overall. Black sheer dress - couple of holes to the hem at the front. Chinese dress - silver trim is tarnished and some wear around the zip, bust 36”; J Colton skirt - 23” waist, couple of tiny pin prick sized holes to the back and several loose threads. Paisley jacket - 40” chest. Silver lame jacket - slight wear overall, buttons have been removed and replaced with press studs, chest 36” bust.

A Late 19th Century Anglo-Chinese Camphorwood and Brass Bound Military Chest in two sections, with plain brass mouldings to edges and uprights, fitted two deep drawers above three long drawers all with recessed brass handles and with brass carrying handles to the sides, on turned bun feet, 40ins wide x 18ins deep x 41.25ins highNote: With ON HIS MAJETY'S SERVICE paper label to back, handwritten:Squadron Leader F.W. Walker D.S.C. A.F.Cc/o Offices Commanding, RAF Base, Gosport, Hants, EnglandNote: Frederick William Walker had joined the Royal Navy as a rating in 1913 becoming a Signaller and serving ashore with the Royal Naval Brigade. He trained as a pilot becoming a Flight Sub-Lieut. in June 1915. He was awarded a DSC - Distinguished Service Cross [London Gazette 1 October 1917] and later the AFC - Air Force Cross [London Gazette 2 November 1918] and promoted Flight Lieut, RAF on 1 August 1919. Postwar Walker flew with No. 210 and later No. 205 Squadrons before serving with Fleet Spotter Flight, Fleet Air Arm. After several years in Air Intelligence HQ RAF Middle East and later on Staff at HQ Transjordan and Palestine he attended a course at RN Staff College Greenwich and joined No. 57 Squadron. He would attain the rank of Acting Air Commodore on 26 November 1940.

An elaborately crafted male attendant figure dressed in a light blue tunic, a dark blue overtunic which is belted with a light blue sash, and a tall dark-coloured hat. The attendant’s has a long blue object clutched to his chest. Attendant figures such as this item were important to a variety of cultures with afterlife beliefs which involved trials, travels, or an afterlife similar to that which was lived on earth. These figures, which are included as funerary offerings reflect the belief that assistance would be helpful in overcoming the difficult environs of the afterlife. A Chinese blanc de chine figure, Qing Dynasty, 19th century, modelled as Guanyin with ten arms, seated cross legged in a lotus throne ascending from a lotus pond, with a pair of hands resting in her lap, another pair together in front of her chest, his other arms stretching out, each holding a Buddhist ceremonial object, the six outstretched arms manufactured separately and held in place with fabric, a/f neck broken and repaired and various further damage, 24cm high.

A CHINESE BLANC DE CHINE FIGURE OF BUDDHA 18TH/19TH CENTURY Depicted seated in dhyanasana with one hand resting upon his lap and the other held in shuni mudra, his bare chest centred by a fylfot, with a six character Wanli mark and a six character maker's mark to the reverse, all raised on an elaborate lotus base adorned with flowers and beads, 26cm. Cf. P J Donnelly, Blanc de Chine, pl.76A for a comparable figure also with a Wanli mark dated to the eighteenth century and pl.80 for another related piece dated 1750-1800.
Large Chinese three-piece gilt bronze Guanyin. Late Ming/ early to mid Qing dynasty. Seated in double lotus position (dhyanasana) with the left hand held in dhyana mudra and the right in karana mudra. Wearing a long flowing robe and dhoti bordered with stylized flowers with the chest open draped with an elaborate necklace with hardstone inlay. Face has peaceful expression with downcast eyes flanked by elongated ear lobes. Wearing a crown with inlay and Amitabha Buddha in the center. Seated on separate lotus throne resting on a wave stand enclosed by a hexagonal balustrade. Overall Approximately: 32" x 14 1/2" x 11 1/2". Shipping: This lot does not qualify for in house shipping.
