A large19th Century Chinese Mother of Pearl Inlaid hardwood screen set with a Silk embroidery panel. The panel embroidered with a displaying peacock, crane and other birds amongst sprays of foliage and flowers. The surrounding wood frame and stand decorated with a frieze of mother of pearl vines, flowers and three immortals. 84cm high x 55cm across. The silk embroidery in good clean condition. minor loss to the mother of pearl inlay.

A Chinese enamelled porcelain and hardwood table screen Republic period, painted with the HeHe Erxian, holding a sprig of lotus and a box and cover, the plaque 37.5cm x 24cm, the wood stand and frame carved with vines, total height 79cm. Condition - fair stand very dirtyThe stand is very dirty encrusted with muck where it’s been in a shed or garage, there are also losses to the wood slots for the porcelain plaque. The porcelain appears to be in good condition although has not been examined outside of the frame.
Maugham (William Somerset) On a Chinese Screen, first English edition, signed presentation inscription from the author "For Sydney Schiff from W. Somerset Maugham, in recollection of a pleasant hour" to front free endpaper, foxing to endpapers, bookplate of Christian Heuer to front pastedown, original cloth, slight fraying to spine tips, extremities a little bumped, light rubbing, dust-jacket, very light toning to spine, slight chipping to spine tips and corners, extremities a little rubbed, a near-fine example, slip-case, [Toole Stott A28b], 8vo, 1922.*** A lovely copy of Maugham's classic account of his trip along the Yangtze River, inscribed to the writer and translator Schiff (the real name of Stephen Hudson). Schiff/Hudson would complete Scott Moncrieff's translation of Proust and, in 1922, would famously host a dinner for several of the leading figures of the Paris art and literary scene, the only occasion that Joyce, Proust, Picasso, Diaghilev and Stravinsky would all meet together.

A 20th century Chinese fire screen with ceramic panel depicting two figures and bird, height 74cm, width 59cm, depth 25cm.Condition Report: The porcelain panel with a chip to the back of one of the bottom corners, this is not visible in the wood frame. Minor wear to enamels and edges. wood frame with sun fading and light wear. The moulding to the stand which supports the frame has cracks to three of the four sections. The ceramic panel is 33cm x 22.5cm. Small loss to the corner of the main rectangular frame. The back panel supporting the frame is loose (small losses at wood locks) and is held into place by tape.
