A Underglaze Blue and Famille Rose Snuff Bottle Qing Dynasty Dimensions: Height 3 7/8 inches, Width 1 1/2 inches (10 cm x 4 cm). Gu Mengyu was a prominent Chinese politician and educator during the era of the Republic of China. He played a significant role as one of the central figures in the reorganization faction led by Chen Gongbo within the left wing of the Kuomintang. He held several important positions, including Minister of Railway and Minister of Transportation in the Nationalist Government. The items being auctioned from Mr. Gu Mengyu's personal collection have been graciously provided by the descendants of Ms. Wei Zengying's sister. Some of these items come with a collection box, adorned with Mr. Gu Mengyu's personal seal, which he used to mark his signature during the time of his collection. Alongside them are various scattered collectibles, including a selection of early photographs depicting Gu Mengyu's life, all carefully preserved within a weathered, large wooden box. Additionally, there are exquisite calligraphy and painting works gifted to Mr. Gu Mengyu by renowned modern artists. In addition, the consignor of these collectibles has provided a treasured family album, brimming with captivating tales about the lives of both Mr. Gu Mengyu and Ms. Wei Zengying.

A Chinese famille rose European erotic subject snuff box and cover, Qianlong period, the flat circular cover painted with an erotic portrait of a lady in a landscape, the base painted with landscape vignettes, and figures, the underside of the lid and the base painted with a bird amid foliage, 6.6cm diameter, metal mounts lacking, crazed glaze to base***CONDITION REPORT***The snuff box is missing its European metal mounts and has wear to the gilding on the edges and the interior. The cover has a small splinter chip to the edge of the top and on the inside. The base is heavily crazed and does not ring when tapped. Numbered inside '131/500', the hinged lid chased in high relief with a Chinese pastoral scene with figures amidst prunus, trees and pagodas, the sides similarly chased, the base with inscription 'The gift of K: Charles 2 to Mrs Grin...', the inside of the lid with a modern inscription dated '12-4-83' , mark of CWS, London 1979, 7.2cm long, 5.2cm wide, 111g.
